The Grand Canyon, may not be the whole infinity of creation, or a fairy cake but it certainly puts size into perspective, and as for a sense of proportion well……..
The Grand Canyon is undoubtedly one of the true natural wonders of the world. The rock formations are known the world over, as the red strata is one of the most photographed areas in the world. This stratum shows millions years of evolution and erosion, the inaccessibility ... ...where you will find the Grand Canyon Village.
There are several ways of seeing the Canyon; one of the most popular is by Helicopter or Plane. We didn’t do this but I understand from many reports, this can be a little unnerving. I think you’re fine if love flying, but if you suffer from motion sickness it can get very turbulent, I think they plan on cleaning out the machines fairly regularly. The prices for this seem to range from $150 - $250 depending ...

...to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon might not seem to work. For a start your to think of the Canyon as one of the attractions of Vegas (and the tourist brochures of Vegas do just that) is in geographical terms at least a little incorrect – about 300 miles incorrect. However I wanted to get away from it all (the very bottom of the Canyon) but the girlfriend still wanted to live it up a bit to try and prove to me I think I wasn’t quite dead ... ...at the top of the Grand Canyon was not going to be enough – and the long-suffering girlfriend knew it. She likes to look at the hill. So somewhere we had to strike a balance. We couldn’t hike down. She wasn’t up to it. Truth of the matter was I wasn’t up to it either – we didn’t need to mention that though. And so it was that the love child of a Horse and Donkey, the Mule, was to be our saviour. Now you may not ...

Advantages: Great scenic beauty, a truly grand experience. Disadvantages: CROWDED in the summer.
I worked at the Grand Canyon for two years, and it was one of the best things I ever did in my life. Living and working in a national park is absolutely a wonderful experience. You get to see the park in all seasons, in every light, from sunrise to sunset and moonrise and beyond. You don't just visit the park, you get to learn about the area, its people, and its moods. So, if you get the opportunity, run don't walk, and work at a park!
Now that ... ...the best times to visit...when the tourists aren't there! If you like feeling as if you have the park to yourself, obviously summertime isn't going to be your first choice for a park vacation. Just as obviously, many people, especially those with families, can't go at any other time. If you have to visit in the summer, try for very early (late April, early May), or very late (late September, early October). Even then, the crowds will be more than ...

The Grand Canyon simply takes your breath away. I had seen the photo's and read all about it, but no photo can capture the sheer vastness of it. However, I'm sure you've heard it all before because everyone says it, so I hope to pass on a few handy tips for visitors to the Canyon.
First of all, try and arrive at the gates of Grand Canyon National Park before 10am because any time after then the tailbacks will start. It costs about $20 per vehicle ... ...because once you drive into Grand Canyon Village it is very very crowded and it's a struggle just to find a parking space when you don't know where you're going.
There are three free shuttle buses. Their routes are marked on the map by different colours. The Hermits Rest Route runs between the Village and Hermits rest and has stops along the way at canyon overlooks. The Village Route does a loop around the village stopping at facilities in the village ...

...will leave you breathless. The Grand Canyon, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is truly awesome. A product of 2 billion years of erosion through the Arizona landscape by the Colorado River, it is a gift from Mother Nature unsurpassed in magnitude and beauty. Visitors have a number of options available to view the canyon. Depending upon your budget you can entertain yourself by taking a stress-free stroll around the rim, ride a mule a couple ... ...6.5 mile fairly steep hike back to the Canyon's Rim in almost unbearable temperatures. Know your limits people!! I've now been to more than 20 states in the USA and I've still never encountered anything quite as magical as the Grand Canyon. And guess what?? It's still growing!!!! ...

...I decided to visit the Grand Canyon we set out from Las Vegas knowing we only had a few hours to spare. Nothing could prepare us for the most spectacular, breathtaking natural wonder of the world. As soon as we got there, you could just feel your body tingle all over with excitement. When you look over the edge, a number of emotions come flooding through your mind and a sense of inspiration overwhelms you.
There are opportunities for organised trips ... ...rides - you can even canoe/water raft on the river through the canyons. So many different canyons to visit - rainbow canyon is beautiful. As in its name the rock is made up of different colours. However my friend and I only had a few hours to see this marvel, whilst looking over the magnificent view it started to rain. Most people ran to their cars but whats a little rain when your from the UK, as we stood watching the rain come down a beautiful ...

...my top 5 tips for Grand Canyon:
1) Leave your car behind. There is an excellent free tram service which takes you all along the southern rim. Its easy to use and environmentally sound too
2) If you can afford it, take a helicopter ride. Peering over the edge and climbing down is all well and good, but you won't realise the awesome splendour of the place until you've been round it in a helicopter. We paid $100 for a half hour flight and it was some ... ...beautiful
3) Try and visit the North rim. Most people stick to the south, and this is cerainly easier to get to; but if you can get to the north too, you will get a totally different feel and it is much less crowded
4) Go see the IMAX. There is a great IMAX film a few miles south of the south rim. It's a litle cheesy but the views are amazing and you get some idea of hyow huge it really is
5) Walk. If you can descend even for an hour into the ...

I first visited the Grand Canyon some ten years ago, but recently went back with some friends who had no idea what to expect. We drove to the first lookout and guided them, eyes closed, to the edge. The look in their eyes when they saw it spoke volumes - which was good, because they didn't say anything for long minutes.
That's the thing with the Grand Canyon: it is just really, really BIG. Big on a scale that we can't imagine from natural features ... ...is possible to stay outside the Park, but it is a long way to any large towns or cities, so it will seriously shorten your stay.
If you are ever within a thousand miles of the Grand Canyon. I promise you, you will have a memory to last forever. ...

Advantages: spectacular, quiet, not touristy or tacky Disadvantages: none
...popular South Rim of the Grand Canyon gets 90% of all the visitors, and the famous sunsets are 6 deep in observers.Lots of cameras going off, lots of tacky souveniers for sale, very commercial, polluted, and crowded. The North Rim, the higher of the two rims and positioned better for watching sunsets, gets 10% of the visitors and is never crowded. You can always find a vantage point where you can be alone with yourself or your partner/family, and ... ...by people or look at their litter. It's quieter at night as well. You want to party, go to Vegas, is what I say. The North Rim is accessable from the south only by a long, difficult, two-day journey. If you want to stay on the North Rim, you have to plan for it initially and head out that way. Driving from one rim to the other is four hours or more, usually more. ...

I first visited Grand Canyon in 1979 and it made a lasting impression on me as I am sure it does to the thousands who visit it every year.
I have been back to the canyon many times and I am always amazed just how impressive it is.
We decided {family wife 2children aged 18 and 11} to visit thr canyon off season actually over Christmas 2004.
We took direct flight fom Heathrow with Virgin Atlantic to Los Angeles and stayed in Anaheim {30 south of ... ...We then travelled to the Grand Canyon a 500 mile trip {approx}
a long days driving but well worth it.We stopped twice on the way
to eat and stretch our legs.
Arriving in the dark we has to wait until the following morning for
our first view of the Canyon.
We awoke dressed warmly Hats?gloves and fleeces and walked the 1/4 mile to the rim,
Excellent visibility, but a cold updraft from the canyon, best of all
very few tourists.
A few coach loads ...

Advantages: Fantasic for trekking and getting away from everyone Disadvantages: Too many cars, not enough water
This place will always be special because it was the first week of my honeymoon. We were travelling through the national parks in the western states and started with the mother of them all. We had our camping gear with us, really good idea for cheap accomodation. We stayed in a campsite 4 miles out of the national park, just as the US summer holidays were starting. It was almost empty, the spaces were great, the one downside was no showers but we ... ...threw cold water from the pump on ourselves every morning, watched only by the Blue Jays. The first time we saw the canyon, it was evening and the sun was going down. I don't think I've ever been so awe struck by anything in my life, and I'm seriously well travelled. The next day, something about the place had changed and while it kept an eerie unreal quality, I never felt the same feeling in the put of my stomache again. As someone who suffers from ...

Before going to the Grand Canyon I didn't really kow what to expect. We put it into our travels as we knew it was worth seeing but beyong that we didn't really have any expectations.
We spent a whole day at the Grand Canyon. We firstly walked around the rim, seeing the amazing views. The Grand Canyon is every bit as spectacular as it looks and everyone says it is - and you really get a feel for the size of it if you take a hike down into it and out again. Its one of the hardest hikes I've done, and you have to be really careful of the heat, but you do get quite a sense of achievement. We went to the North Rim of the Canyon - its apparently much quieter there than at the other side, and arrived in the evening, in time to watch ... ...as good. The accommodation is in log cabins, which are great, although the choice of food is fairly limited - pizza or a posh restaurant.
One other piece of information - the medical services, should you need them, are very good - I was pretty ill and the nurse came to my cabin and sorted me out. Shame about the fifty dollar bill. ...

...the first sight of the Grand Canyon. The Canyon is 277miles long, 10 miles wide and over 1 mile deep and it descends to the Colorado River, past looming walls of multi-coloured limestone, sandstone and shale.
