Gawd - Nearly Everyone's Rude!
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by LostWitness

Advantages: Reliable, relaxing, excellent food
Disadvantages: Truly dreadful staff

...and a restaurant car. First Great Western aren't much better and then when you start to hit some of the smaller operators, it's like something out of the Third World. There's no doubt, therefore, that GNER sits way ahead of the competition in terms of style and standards and this is a key contributor in the regulator's decision to renew their operating licence. Network and Destinations The GNER network essentially connects London and Scotland ... Read review

The tale of the Late and Never Early Railway.
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by Bigbaz

Advantages: Fast and Efficient
Disadvantages: You are trapped with a group of people who can be a challenge to say the least

...Containers under the guise of Great North Eastern Railways (GNER) and things became to change. The Trains themselves were given a mid life upgrade both internally and externally including a smart new blue livery. The crest of GNER appeared on all the carriages and the logo the route of the Flying Scotsman was added as a touch of well perhaps not nostalgia but a ploy perhaps to add romance to the railways again. Speed was never the issue this time ... Read review

GNER...Get NearEr...Reverse
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by JoMerrington

Advantages: Comfortable trains
Disadvantages: delays, breakdowns, customer service

GNER (or Great North Eastern Railway) operates the main route from Glasgow to Kings Cross. A quote from their web site “Punctuality, reliability and safety remain our top priorities, underpinned by a firm commitment to customer service.” In my opinion they have some work to do! I’ve used GNER a fair bit as I used to live in Peterborough and would travel home to Newcastle and have only ever suffered minor delays (around 20ish mins). ... Read review

Take the Hogwarts Express to London
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by ShoppingGirl

Advantages: Relaxing, simple, comparatively cheap.
Disadvantages: Occasional delays, buffet still not exactly brilliant.

Why fly to London? Ok, well maybe you're located in Scotland and need to visit England for work on a regular basis. Most business peeps here in Edinburgh can regularly be seen dragging their mini trolleys and their laptops out to the airport - convinced that the one and a bit hour flight down to London town is going to save them time, money and hassle. Oh - and make them look prestigious too. As if! I have been a frequent flyer on the Edinburgh ... Read review

Not so Great North Eastern Railway
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by Zedex

Advantages: Quicker than the coach/car
Disadvantages: Where do I start?... See op

I live in London but grew up in the north-east. I travel home to see family about four times a year and have done so for the past eight years on the only train company that goes to Darlington from London (Kings Cross): GNER. I have had cause for complaint so many times in the last few years, I couldn't tell you, due to the frequent delays, dirty trains, and rude staff and have often received vouchers to contribute towards my next journey as a result. ... Monopoly A Game Anyone Can Play
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by mikeydred

Advantages: Their Trains At Least Do Run
Disadvantages: Appalling Attitude to customers if things go wrong

.. as long as you have a captive customer base. I didn’t think there was a need for this opinion as I thought I’d berated GNER staff enough for their rudeness and ineptitude in my “Blood on the Tracks” opinion. It seems that is not the case. I’m also a bit perturbed that my last three opinions have been one star hatchet job diatribes. I really do prefer to write about things that I like, and nice things in general. Before ... Going for a Ride on the Choo Choo
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by NoLogoGirl

Advantages: Offer a good range of departure times
Disadvantages: Subject to delays!!!!!!!

Trains are such a marvellous concept on paper; especially to someone who was brought up in North America where planes are the only mode of transport! It is also very hard to be objective when it comes to a newcomer's opinion on train service however I have become accustomed to them after two years and would like to offer up my opinion. GNER (Great North Eastern Railway) is the key Mainline train service that I use for national travel. I generally ... Read review

Review of Great North Eastern Railway by DC-DanielColeflax

Advantages: some nice trains, good replies from customer service
Disadvantages: delays/cancellations, some staff, unreliable customer service

...to see them lose their great standards so soon before they leave. I would now say that if you do travel with them, you should probably not expect to much, however, if you have a problem complain:- it may take a long time for a reply, but it tends to pay off. Thank you for reading and I hope you have found this review helpful. If you require any more information please leave me a comment and I will get back to you or update my review as soon as ... The Best of a bad bunch
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by bazza1603

Advantages: Ran to time.Staff kept as informed staight away why the train had stopped
Disadvantages: Price of food is dear

When at school my teacher always said, if you dont work hard you will end up working for British rail.....How right he was!!! I worked for various train companies between 1990 and 1995 I was surprised at how much train travel had improved on GNER. The state of the network was so bad when I worked with them, even when I got free travel I wouldnot let the train take the strain as the service was so unrealiable. Last week end we hit Edinburgh for ... Read review

A tale of two journeys
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by Wood007

Advantages: Speed, comparative reliability
Disadvantages: Some trians can be busy

A Tale of Two Journeys. ‘It was the best of times, it was the worst of times’ Being a regular traveller of the weekday services with GNER, I qualify for their rewards program which is called ‘GNER time’. Anyone spending over £1,200 on travel on the GNER network in a three month qualifies for the rewards program and to my mind deserves it ! This consists of the following benefits; 6 pairs of tickets for First Class Travel on the GNER network ... Read review

Scotland to London, it's actually ok
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by ms19

Advantages: comfy seats
Disadvantages: the state of the toilets, food price

I used GNER on my first trip down to London. It was something around £30 the fair and it lasted 4 hours only stopping at Newcastle and York. The train took me from Edinburgh Waverley to London King's Cross. GNER are the main servie from London to Scotland. They do regular journeys daily. For more information on time go to www.qjump.co.uk You can book tickets in the station, online or over the phone either way you will still get the tickets. ... Read review

Assuredly 'The Flying Scotsman'
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by Mr...Smith

Advantages: High quality of service in all areas
Disadvantages: None

*I would like to stress immediately that I am not qualified to comment on the level on Standard Class services provided by GNER. My own experiences are tailored more for the discerning traveller who is willing to pay a higher fare for First Class travel and should be treated as such. Regards.* The reasons for my using this service have all been academical in nature, that is I have had to travel from Scotland to Cambridge for lectures, work and ... Read review

Not exactly The Flying Scotsman
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by ts902

Advantages: Fast, improving services, online booking offers great discounts
Disadvantages: can get very full to the point of standing room only, toilets often disgusting

I was reading a selection of other reviews and noticed there were quite a mix of responses to GNER trains. GNER (Great North Eastern Railway) operates the main East Coast rail line between London and several Northern termini - namely Edinburgh, Glasgow and Leeds, and minor routes to Aberdeen, Hull and Inverness. Having used the service for 5 years now, I can sympathise with both the positive and negative comments of other reviewers. This seems ... Read review

GNER comprehensive
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by lucypenman

Advantages: They do get there - eventually
Disadvantages: Terrible customer relations, don't trust them to book your seat, look after you when things go wrong, be at all sympathetic

After reading a few of the other reviews of GNER I thought I'd treat you to some of my adventures on this rail service. I think to give a true opinion of a rail service, since they can have bad days when one train stops in a particular place at a particular time and the whole system goes wrong. This is why connex services urge you to get to the train on time as a few seconds delay can have a 'domino' effect. I'm a student used to travelling the ... Read review

GNER - the pride of privatisation.....yeah
Review of Great North Eastern Railway by Dawson

Advantages: York to London in 2 hours
Disadvantages: Price, service, and carriages.

Today I took a trip on GNER. Naturally, I have some gripes about the service they offered me. This is the primary one: Me - Hi, I'd like a day return to King's Cross from York please. Them - Yes sir, and at what time? Me - I need to be in London by 9:30 at latest. Them - oh-kay, I'll just run that through for you...... Me - Thanks Them - That comes to £122. Me - *coughing loudly* What? Them - £122 Me - Is that English pounds? Them - *Humourlessly* ... Read review
