Advantages: Europe's richest treasure chambers Disadvantages: an overkill of splendour
The Green Vault is a must-see for any visitor to Dresden, the capital of Saxony in the east of Germany. It's Europe's most sumptuous treasure chamber, if you haven't heard of it yet, this may be due to the fact that it was hidden behind the Iron Curtain for decades. Before I'm going to take you with me on a tour, I have to tell you three things:
1) There isn't *one* Green Vault, there are *two*.
2) Neither is green

Advantages: magnificent museum Disadvantages: nothing
...Europe. In German it's called Grünes (green) Gewölbe (vault). The founder of the green vault was Augustus the Strong, the king of Saxony and King of Poland.
The exhibition was formerly in the castle of the Wettiner in Dresden. Wettiner was the name of the king-family from Saxony - and Augustus the strong was one of them, probably the most important. After the destruction in 1945 and the come back from Russia move the collection to the Albertinum, ...
