Meeting Helen Mirren and adventurous times galore!

Advantages: Alot of things happening so you won't get bored reading this
Disadvantages: Quite a long read as so much happened

...like when I went to Guernsey in August 2005. I have written the majority of this review from my own experiences, rather than giving you lots of facts about Guernsey that you could read about in any travel guide. INTRODUCTION The Channel Islands consists of a group of 5 small islands: Jersey, Guernsey, Sark, Herm and Alderney. Guernsey is the second largest of these islands and is 24sq miles in size. St Peters Port is the main part of Guernsey ...
...thought. We are going to Guernsey at a bad time. As we approached Guernsey I could see across the island lots of bright white lights glaring up at us, and as we got lower down I realised it was where the sunlight was catching the many greenhouses that Guernsey has. As we stepped off the plane the temperature didn't feel much different from what it did back home, however I had left Stansted Airport with thick rain clouds and here there was not a cloud ...

Welcome to Guernsey

Advantages: Quiet and peaceful, yet has potential for good night life
Disadvantages: Can be too quite

Guernsey is situated 50km (30 miles) from the coast of France and 130km (80 miles) from the south coast of England. It is the second largest island of the Channel Islands, the rest of the Channel Islands consist of Jersey, Alderney, Sark and Herm. Guernsey has an estimate population of 59,807 (calculated in 2001, may be more now) which is quite a large amount considering that the island is only 63.1 sq km (24.3 sq miles). Guernsey has its own government ...
...Great Britain). Guernsey has great potential as a holiday destination; most tourism here is aimed at families all though I believe some people do arrange hen and stag nights here. The best time to visit Guernsey is during the summer i.e. (June-September) the temperature in Guernsey varies however it is very similar to the south west of England. There are many family activities during the summer such as the Town Carnival, Liberation Day (9 May each ...

Guernsey-my roots- your holiday!

Advantages: Lots of history, great food.
Disadvantages: Too many cars. Quite expensive to travel to.

...are in my blood, and Guernsey will always be close to my heart and as an Islander, feel absolutely qualified to give a review on the little island I was brought up in. I was brought up with Guernsey tomatoes, freesias, German Occupation history, the sandy beaches and the quiet cliff walks, (that still exist to this day). The growing of tomatoes has gone now and the peacefulness is not quite as tranquil as I remember it. Having visited twice recently ...
...what it's like now! Guernsey is the second largest of what is known as the Channel Islands situated about 12 miles off the coast of France and almost 100 miles from the English coast, yet the islands still belong to the British Crown but with their own government. Guernsey is accessible by ferries which sail out of Portsmouth, Weymouth and Poole. Be aware that if you take your vehicle there are certain restrictions. Motorhomes and caravans are not ...

...goes out of the window. Guernsey has fantastic restaurants and bars where you can scoff till you drop they serve all types of cuisine. Seafoods being one of there specialities. (Who can resist fresh crab or lobster)? Some places can be pretty expensive but that is up to you to shop around. The wine and spirits in the supermarkets are cheaper than UK mainland. What shall we do today? Go and visit the shell chapel, It is a tiny little chapel built ...
...lucky enough to be in Guernsey when the annual flower show is on (I know that sounds boring) you must take a visit. It is a full day out. The things they make out of flowers are absolutely amazing. Giant birds/ ships/ roundabouts…. The list goes on. Guernsey is renowned for its flowers especially freesias. There are so many things to see I cannot possibly list them all. Lets go shopping. St Peter Port and St Sampson’s are the places ...

I must return to Guernsey

Advantages: Something for everyone
Disadvantages: A bit expensive

Guernsey is slightly smaller the Jersey being only 24 square miles, but it still manages to pack in plenty to do for all ages. There are beautiful, clean sandy beaches where the children can play safely, and rocky promontories for scrambling and exploring. The capital of Guernsey is St. Peter Port The streets rise steeply from the harbour and afford views of sister islands Herm, Sark and Jethou. Castle Cornet overlooks the harbour, a safe haven ...
...build underground hospitals on both Guernsey and Jersey. I found this a spooky experience. We were given tickets and asked to make sure that we handed them in at the end of the tour so that they could check that everyone was out before they closed up for the day. We were then free to wander around in the gloomy half-light. As we walked along all we could hear were the muffled voices and footsteps of other visitors elsewhere in the hospital. Some ...

Gorgeous Guernsey

Advantages: Too numerous to list - try it for yourself!
Disadvantages: Can be expensive

I first visited Guernsey in 1995, and from the moment I stepped onto the island I was completely hooked. The place has everything you need from a holiday destination EXCEPT guaranteed good weather (more about that later!). It's location makes it ideal to visit from the UK, as it's only about 45 minutes by air from Gatwick or about two and a half hours from Weymouth by fast ferry, but it's also a good stopping-off point if you fancy a few days in ...
...from the UK mainland to Guernsey and Jersey so the cost of taking your car isn't cheap. It cost us over £300 to sail over last year by fast ferry (conventional ferry crossings are slightly cheaper but take about eight hours). If you're not going to use your car much it might be cheaper to go as a foot passenger and hire a car on the island or use public transport. However, if you DO go by fast ferry it's worth paying an extra tenner per person each ...

Get away from it all in Guernsey

Advantages: Relaxing, chilled, quaint, beautiful, Sark nearby
Disadvantages: Easy to put on weight! And it might be too quiet for some people

...i must have been to Guernsey at least 32 times in my lifetime. This is because my grandparents moved to Guernsey when i was born (I have that effect!) and so I have been visiting once or twice a year ever since. Guernsey is a small island between France and England, and is part of the Channel Islands which consist of Jersey, Alderney, Sark and Herm also (in descending order of size). I have only been to Sark however and it is the nicest place i ...
...I must get back to Guernsey now: If you like food, this is the place to go as i seem to come back rather heavier than i when i arrived there. You could eat at a different restaurant for every meal for every day of your holiday and not even scratch the surface. There are many expensive restaurants where I was always taken, with 'Pierre Park' being the best in my opinion, especially the buffet! There is a large grass area behind this hotel/restaurant ...

Guernsey, Channel Islands

Advantages: Beautiful beaches, walks and lots of good food
Disadvantages: Difficult and often expensive to get to. Prone to fog at the airport.

Although Guernsey is only 3 miles by 7, one end of the island differs greatly to the other. In the south, there are imposing cliffs that are easy to ramble on using the well maintained cliff path (often includes steep climbs) and towards the north are the flat plain lands where you can play golf or watch banger racing on one of the many beaches there. The beaches in the north and west are where you can surf, fly kites or just generally lie there ...
...superb food, and in October Guernsey and Jersey have a tennerfest, where you can have a fantastic 3-course meal for £10-15. If you like flowers, then there are plenty of well planted gardens and parks to stroll round and also several floral festivals throughout spring and summer. For motor enthusiasts there are hill climbs on bank holidays and also a classic car show in the summer. The Guerns love their cars. There are also the other islands of ...

Nicer than Jersey!

Advantages: friendly, amazing views, good nightlife,
Disadvantages: small, and you will notice this after a couple of weeks

...born and have lived in Guernsey most of my life. It is an amazing place. It is small, extremely friendly and has something to suit everyone. If your looking for a quiet break then a small cottage or hotel in the countryside would suit you. If you want something more active then the main centre St. Peter Port is great. It has a wide range of shops, good nightlife, good food and boat services running to all the other islands around. A day visit to ...
...the best are the best! The island boasts a rich histroy and this is shown in the many museums and German remains: bunkers, watch towers, etc. Other attractions include the Tomatoe farm, the strawberry farm, and the butterly farm. There is a market in the center of St. Peterport hich has todays catc from the local fishermen. The fish is superb. All islanders are friendly and willing to help. There is hardly any crime and of course there is no VAT! ...

Advantages: close , english yet a continental feel
Disadvantages: not a lot to do on a wet day

...by air or sea , guernsey is a smaller island than Jersey being only approximately 6 miles X 10 miles ,one of the problems you are unlikely to be told about is that the airport can often be fog bound ,resulting in flight delays . Guernsey What a Place

Advantages: Nice and Quiet
Disadvantages: Not much open in February

Well, I went with my fiance' for valentines weekend. Its a nice place, I'll say that, but if you plan on seeing many of the museums and tourist attractions, then take my advice, go later in the year. If you want a place to relax and get away from it all, then this is the time and place. During our weekend break we we're treated to fabulous meals, friendly bars and the locals were wonderful when we got lost, which even though its a small island ...
