I Don't Think I'll Be Flying Gulf Again

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Cramped seats, rude unprofessional staff

...(formerly known as Calcutta) via Gulf Air. I arrived to check in by the required 3 hours prior to take-off time - my flight was leaving at 11:00, I arrived by 07:30 as I hate leaving it till the last minute like some people and then having to rush around trying to get checked in and keep other passengers waiting. I like to check in and then sit with whoever's dropping me at the airport for a while before going airside to browse around the duty free ...
...ahead of me in the Gulf Air queue. I waited patiently, it's now 08:30 and I'm at the front of the queue. Suddenly a Gulf Air representative stood in front of me and said "all passengers for XXXXX please proceed to the front of the queue" and there was a mad rush of about 40 or so passengers waiting to check in for the Gulf Air flight which was due to leave prior to mine. I waited patiently till these passengers all checked in and was now told by ...

The noisiest plane ever

Advantages: Cheap, punctual
Disadvantages: Staff, food, schedules

...back again (via Muscat) using Gulf Air. The flights were booked by the holiday company I was travelling through and were probably the cheapest flights to the region. Cheap doesn’t necessarily mean poor quality though and Gulf Air impressed in some areas and failed to impress in others. The flights ======== The first leg (Heathrow – Bahrain, departed on time) was in an Airbus A332. The plane seemed quite new and the Gulf Air livery (a lot of gold ...
...was on the (even cheaper) Gulf Traveller, which is a budget airline in the Middle East. Gone were the seatback TVs – replaced by one large screen at the front of the plane, which showed Bolllywood films for the entire 4hr flight. Bizarrely enough the food on this flight was much better than the first leg – chicken with veg and a chapatti. The return flight involved a stopover in Muscat (Oman) that was going to be 7 hours. As it happened severe weather ...

Gulf Air

Advantages: clean, comfortable, good service
Disadvantages: No direct flights out to Asia

I have flown repeatedly with Gulf Air out to various places in Asia from India to South East Asia and the far east. These have always required a stop-off in the gulf area of the Middle East, almost always Bahrain which is the airlines hub. The airline has connections from London, Paris and Frankfurt out to Bahrain and from there there are plenty of connections out to Asia and to various places around the Middle East and Islamic countries such as ...
...reason I have flown with Gulf Air is that they have consistently been the cheapest option on offer for flights out to Asia-perhaps because of the required change over. I have flown with them for 3 return trips (making that 12 flights given they all needed a change over) and for each of these Gulf Air was the cheapest available flight, twice when I had booked a good few months in advnace and once when I needed a relatively last minute flight. They ...

The Golden Falcon spreads its wings

Advantages: Clean and bright cabin, some pleasant crew, not dry
Disadvantages: Average food, Duty Free catalogue needs some attention

Gulf Air have recently relaunched themselves. In autumn last year they started a three-year turn-around programme, beginning with a new livery. The Golden Falcon remains their emblem, but updated, and the idea of course is that just as the new livery shows a new outside, that merely reflects the new inside.... So how does it compare? Well, I really can't say, not having flown on them before! But in early June 2003 I flew a short sector within the ...
...via Bahrain with Gulf Air, two short flights, the first about two hours and the second barely an hour. I was in First class. AT THE AIRPORT There was just a small queue at check in; well, one person, so if it had been any less then it wouldn't have been a queue! The check in agent was just about polite but lacking any warmth. He didn't even ask if I wanted a window or an aisle seat, he presented me with an aisle and I had to ask to be moved to ...

Excellent Service, but not perfect

Advantages: Cheap, excellent service
Disadvantages: Poor timing of flights, dated cabins

...the option of flying with Gulf Air (Business Class). Firstly, they have an offer presently where you get 5 times the air miles that you fly. For a trip to Singapore, that’s enough for a free flight across the Atlantic! However, it runs out soon, so check their web site. So, having done some research on various airlines, Gulf Air was the cheapest both in Business Class and also Economy to Singapore, £1700 and £500 respectively. I’m also ...
...as far as I know, Gulf Air only has the one flight a day from London Heathrow. Pre Flight: So, I check in at Heathrow, ahead of the queues, given I’m travelling business. There were no problems, and I’m away within minutes to the Business Lounge. Now, I’m one of these types who leave NOTHING to the last minute, and arrived at the lounge first. There were a few bits of food, cereals, etc, and plenty of drinks. The seats were comfortable, ...

One of the best

Advantages: The flight was a pleasant and comfortable fight.
Disadvantages: NONE

...10 flights, The cheapest was Gulf air, Which I had never heard of in my life, Then the second airline was Etihad which I have been with which I must say was the worst airline in the middle east, and obviously you all have hear of emirates, I have been with Etihad and emirates which I hate, and I will be righting a review about them when I have time. So I looked at the prices, between each of the 3 airlines (emirates, Etihad and Gulf Air.) The tickets ...
...for you to stop over, Gulf air had the option of Bahrain, Etihad had the option of Abu Dhabi (they use to own 25% of gulf air, but then left for that junk), And emirates which had the option of Dubai, Which we all know is ment to be the greatest place to be. The tickets for Gulf air were only £200 but emirates and Etihad were around £300+. I choose Gulf air as it has a competitive fare and I had never been with them. Firstly I did some research ...

How to pray in an aeroplane

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Not direct

I have only flown Gulf Air once, and I have to say it wasn't by choice. I simply bought the cheapest available ticket to Jakarta and it happened to be with them. The first thing to point out therefore, is that they are indeed very cheap. The second is that the reason for this is that the flights are not direct, they stop in the Middle East, in my case Bahrain. Unfortunately, I had cause to test Gulf Air's reliability more than I would have liked. ...
...I have to say though, Gulf Air were helpful. They didn't put me up or anything - it was my fault the thing had gone missing - but they did arrange for me to get on the next day's flight and didn't charge me any extra even though my ticket wasn't alterable. On the downside, it took a lot of hassling to get anything done and if I hadn't parked myself in their office and refused to move until they'd sorted everything, I'd probably still be in the departure ...

Real Service Providers

Advantages: Excellent service and calue for money
Disadvantages: During a day flight, the strict Muslims on board pray at set intervals in the aisles

I flew at the end of last year from London Heathrow long haul to Manama in Bahrain, a flight of approx 7hours. It cost about £450.00, although I booked only a few days before I flew and I know you can get it cheaper if you book earlier. I chose them because they had been recommended by friends and family who use them regularly, but to be fair, availability was limited on any airline at that time. The flight was on-time when it left, and early arriving ...
...I could have got a cheaper flight from KLM, but that was not direct. Speed was important, as was space whilst travelling as I have suffered from a blood clot in the past. I need to get up and walk around at intervals and was concerned as to the recent publicity regarding this on long haul flights. The check-in staff (although, I feel, wearing slightly 'odd' uniforms), were polite and efficient and they helped me with my baggage. Unfortunately, at ...

Should be called Gulp Air

Advantages: Hmm, can't think of any
Disadvantages: Too many stops, long connections, cramped seats, no air

I have flown Gulf for three separate holidays - twice to India and once to Sri Lanka and have been avoiding them for the last 5 years now. My husband calls them 'Gulp Air' because there never seems to be enough oxygen in the cabin. Gulf are the used by many of the 'Adventure' travel companies - e.g. Exodus, Explore and the Adventure Company. Personally, I like my adventure on the ground and not in the air. Why do these companies use them? - easy ...
...money!) for less than the Gulf fare and I'm off to Delhi in June with my Virgin Airmiles - however, I could have bought a ticket with Virgin or BA for less than the Gulf fare. So what's wrong with Gulf? To be fair - if you are just using them to the Middle East, they aren't too bad. I'd take Emirates by preference every time BUT UK to Middle East, Gulf don't do so badly. The planes are usually not too old or too cramped and the food is OK. The ...

I have flown on Gulf Air twice, and I have to say that i dont have any complains, Except the fact that you have to book early...

Advantages: I bet you won't find any complains...
Disadvantages: Bookings should be done quite early..

I have flown twice in Gulf Air (First class), I have to say i enjoyed the flight, you can sleep like a baby for those seats are so comfy, and Adjusts Automatically, I loved the in flight Movie selection they have some were pretty new too,. I was watching one after another,... and if that is not enough you could watch a video of your choice... The Food was served 3 course they have the most un-believable french croisants... and you get a fruit basket, ...
...friendly and helpful,.. This is what the First class is like so i guess they have to make a good impression after all they are the most expensive seats... Well if you ask me about economy class i would not know what to say... But first class is definitely memorable. ...

Bridging the Gulf

Advantages: Okay if you like playing 'sardines'
Disadvantages: Only consider if you are willing to sacrifice everything (including your sanity) for economy

I've flown with Gulf Air twice, from Heathrow to Bahrain and have to say that even on a relatively short flight of 6 hours, economy class is exactly what it says - there's an economy on courtesy, space and especially leg room. Conditions are far more cramped than necessary and nothing seems to run smoothly. Flights would appear to be often 'overbooked' and passengers were actually asked to leave the plane on the flight I travelled on. The cabin ...
...dealing with these unfortunate 'extra passengers', but perhaps this has a lot to do with having to wear the particularly horrendous uniforms in a sickly shade of peach. Being a disabled passenger I needed wheelchair access to the plane - but very little thought was given as to how I should reach a seat at the back, from the front entrance - so I was reduced to hobbling along on crutches amidst all the other travellers. On my return journey - despite ...

An entirely pleasant experience!

Advantages: The Sky Nanny Service, The Crew in flight and on ground, the food
Disadvantages: Bahrain Connection

...The Sky Nanny service by Gulf Air is one of a kind with the appointed hostess concentrating only on kids and regularly checking in if they were settled or needed more to play with apart from their complimentary activity packs! Arrival Services: Gulf Air connections are via Bahrain which has a decent Airport with efficient staff and had a pleasant experience at a proper dining restaurant provided for connecting passengers with long stopovers and ...

Summary: The most preferred airline for me to date with a wonderful in air and on round crew and although Bahrain Airport could do with more comfortable waiting areas, kids play sections, once on board you can expect quality and excellence in service with an inviting atmosphere! A big Sacrifice

Advantages: Cheap flight, short stopover
Disadvantages: cramped, delayed, poor check-in service, food quality

...smoothely. Now the flights on GULF AIR are terrible. At London Heathrow, there are long ques and the staff are not very helpful, polite and do not even let you off even a kilo of weight allowance in my experience. The operation of the flight is disorganised, there is most of the time no information to the status of the flight departing given. The crew didn't welcome passengers on board on my last trip. They were still getting organised. The food ...

The inflight entertainment started when all the passengers were asleep. The space is cramped and they often do not give you the seats that are convenient, the duty free magazine needs to be updated. One good point about gulf air is that i changed my departure dates from Karachi about 5 times and they didn't charge ...

Gulf Air is OK

Advantages: Cheap, staff were nice enough
Disadvantages: Changed our flight with no notice, pretty dire food

I flew with Gulf Air whe I went to Muscat on holiday last November. I didn't choose them, they simply came with the package and we though we'd give them a go. We got off to a bad start as we had specifically chosen the package as it had direct flights. We were notified at very short notice before we left that we would no be flying via Bahrain. We were not happy as we had paid more for the direct flight and no compensation was offered. I am not sure ...
...When we enquired at the Gulf Air desk at Heathrow about refunds and complaints, they were helpful enough but the attitude was very much 'The Sultan of Oman said we can't fly direct anymore so tough'. I understand that however what about the extra money we parted for when we booked a direct flight? Service on board and the cabin was pretty standard. Not a great selection of films and the food was pretty disgusting on the return leg but I am not traumatised ...

Quick review of Gulf Air - GFA

The truth I did not use Gulf airlines (GA) but I was told that they give good offers. Last February 2007, I planed to go from Bahrain to London using GA. It was recommended by one of my best friend who tried them on the same route. I want to their booking office to book for me including my wife and boy (less than 2 years). One thing made me change my mind about using GA is that they charge around 75% of the adult ticket for infant. What I know, many airlines charge 25% if not 10% for infant. I asked them why such a thing, they did not give me a good answer. Finally, I used Etihad airways and I was happy with them. ...
