Not all of you may agree
Review of Halifax in General by

Advantages: small but charming
Disadvantages: drinking culture
...my review of town of Halifax in West Yorkshire. I have lived here for only 1 year and a half and although it has a bad reputation in some ways, I would like to show you it's not such as bad place. Funnily enough, I even have to convince people from Halifax! And to top things off, I have moved here from New York when I married my husband so imagine the way people look at me when I say I like this place. But I do.
As mentioned, I have not lived ...

Halifax-more than just a building society
Review of Halifax in General by
ginger59
Advantages: Lots to see and do, heritage, friendly people
Disadvantages: night life, lack of big shops
...an incomer..I've only lived in Halifax for 23 years so I'm not quite a local yet!!!.
I love living in Yorkshire and where I live in particular is beautiful. 6 miles from Halifax, but I have a Halifax postcode and it's my nearest town, so I identify with it. I shop there, sometimes..but it hasn't got a lot of shops to choose from. Honestly, Huddersfield is a better place to shop.
WHAT DO I LIKE?
The Piece Hall..a big square stone building ...

Oh, what a day
Review of Halifax in General by
dirtybird
Advantages: Lots to do, very interactive, helpful staff
Disadvantages: only allowed 3 hours in actual museum
...driver had never been to Halifax before, nevermind the Eureka! childrens museum. However, it was very easy to find and it was all well-signposted.
We piled out of the coach and the other leader went to sign us in. The Eureka! staff were very helpful. They provided a basket-type trolley for us to put all the lunchboxes in etc. so we didn't have to carry them around all day, which made all the difference!
The way it works is you are allowed 3 ...

An insiders guilde to Halifax
Review of Halifax in General by
tarara
Advantages: Plenty to see and do
Disadvantages: same as most towns
I was born in Halifax and have lived in the area almost all my life except for living in Newark for a while (where I would go back given the chance).
Halifax isn't a bad place to visit there are some good shops, officially there are more pubs/clubs per household than anywhere else in the country and there are some nice places to visit.
Shops
Quite a lot of big chain stores here such as M & S, W H Smith, Woolworths, Peacocks, New Look, Evans, ...

Nightclubs in Halifax
Review of Halifax in General by
stuwt
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Expensive, little choice
...the number of pubs in Halifax is continuing to increase, and they seem to be getting better. They have moved away from the Plummet Line types to more of Yates and Weatherspoons types. But still I ask myself what is going on with the clubs?
The biggest is the Coliseum. Due to its size they believe they can charge extortionate prices and everyone will still want to go there. The problem is, in all honesty it's quite small, they can never decide what ...

A lovely town
Review of Halifax in General by
killip
Advantages: Close to big cities so easily accessible
Disadvantages: Close to big cities so greatness taken away, in Calderdale
...shadow Halifax's greatness. In fact, Halifax was once a brilliant town, thriving in the woollen and engineering trades until fabric weaving came at 5 pence a yard from sweatshops in Indonesia and Africa. I believe it also once was a city as their coat of arms states something like "God save the city". Now, however it is part of a new borough alled Calderdale (much in the same way Keighly is now part of Bradford) which I dont much like, apart from ...

Eureka!!
Review of Halifax in General by
JoannaC
Advantages: t £4.74 child over 3, expands the mind!
Disadvantages: Can be overwhelming, cafe needs to be redesigned.
...little boy to Eureka! in Halifax for his 3rd birthday on 31/07. Eureka! is a children's museum, the exhibits are all things that children come across in their daily lives, how the toilet works, the body, music, cars and engines etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. All the exhibits are completely hands on, nothing patronising or fragile, no where that they can't go.
The first floor is more for the younger children really, I would say up to about 8 yrs old. With ...

Halifax does not want visitors
Review of Halifax in General by
john.sw
Advantages: There are several roads out of the place
Disadvantages: Can't park, won't park
Halifax was once a proud and prosperous wool town, but that was a long time ago.
Now, the once grand town bears all the scars of a local council that should be ashamed.
The skyline is dominated by tower blocks of ugly council flats and other municipal monstrosities, and the grand Victorian buildings are under-valued.
It seems that the council doesn’t want visitors. Car parking is a nightmare, and when you can find a parking space, the ...

Halifax, home of wool and the Ridings School
Review of Halifax in General by
judithritchie
Advantages: friendly place, most major facilities met
Disadvantages: a tad boring, not much to do
...didnt do me too badly. Halifax has a lot going for it in its own way, but doesnt every teenager get tired of the place where they grow up????
Halifax has started to diverge so it has more than 1 major nightclub now, and it has lots of increasingly modernised bars and pubs, The shoppings quite limited really, but it holds well for a small town. It has a library, a small small small cinema and a swimming baths. Oooh and theres a Civic theatre, where ...

Halifax is OK
Review of Halifax in General by
suecowsill
Advantages: lots to do, great scenery, super people, good choice
Disadvantages: not many big name shops, rowdy weekend nights
I came to live in Halifax nearly 20 years ago, having got married and we crossed the border from Lancashire, falling in love with the area.
I still love living here and our children are both born and bred Yorkshiremen. Halifax has a lot to recommend it, in spite of the occasional person whinging about it.
Eureka, the children's interactive museum is absolutely fantastic- if you haven't got any children, borrow some and go!!!You will especially ...

Halifax- A great place to live but some problems.
Review of Halifax in General by
It_Could_Be_Worse
Advantages: A lovely friendly community driven place to live.
Disadvantages: Some problems with youths.
I moved to Halifax from Huddersfield and found it to be a much nicer place. Halifax is a much smaller town than Huddersfield and like Halifax is in a great postion for travelling to Manchester and Leeds. Halifax I feel has a much friendlier community feel about it.
The town has all you need and has all the big names your'd expect in any high street. The indoor market or the Borough market as its called has lots of little stalls and a great butcher ...

So you think you know Halifax..
Review of Halifax in General by
T21AMY
Advantages: More pubs per household than any other place in the UK
Disadvantages: No decent clubs and very few decent shops or restaurants
I've lived in Halifax or surrounding areas for nearly 25 years now so feel I have some idea of the type of place this is.
One thing to bear in mind when you read this review is that Halifax isn't a city, it's a small town in the middle of West Yorkshire and compared to similar towns, I believe it has a lot to offer all ages and interests.
Lets start with housing. Admittedly, as with every other town or city in the UK there are nice and not so ...

Get a Piece of Halifax its great
Review of Halifax in General by
galls
Advantages: plenty to see and do
Disadvantages: smallish
...small West Yorkshire town of Halifax whom the former building society now bank takes its name is a good place to spend a day out in my view .
The centre of attention is Piece Hall .
This is situated only two minutes walk away from the railway station right in the centre of town . It is an old Victorian square on three levels with shops and market stalls offering bargains galore .
Then there is more than just this . A good choice of shops exist ...

halifax dodge city
Review of Halifax in General by
laline72
Advantages: not many
Disadvantages: drugs problem
...had heard a lot about Halifax ie the nice countryside etc, but wqas rather dissapointed when i got there. On first arrival it looks like a nice enough place a typical Northern town with nice rolling hills, however when you get into the city sprawl it is a rathet different picture there seems to be an air of depression around the place, the buildings are old and decrepid mostly terraced back to backs, pasted with grafitti.
Halifax has a bad drugs ...
