High Force and also Low Force Waterfalls are places I have visited many times over the years. Situated in Middleton-in-Teesdale, not far from both Raby or Barnard Castle, the waterfalls are a great place to visit for a day out, or as part of a drive through the stunning countryside in the area. High Force - The Highest Waterfall in the UK

Advantages: The highest waterfall in the UK
Disadvantages: Not much else to do there

...be disappointed when I visited High Force last autumn with my Girlfriend. The falls are a meagre 21m high but my opinion soon changed when I arrived. The falls are only about 40 miles from Newcastle and the journey (directions below) will take you about an hour and a half. In all this may seem like the falls are not worth visiting, but if you have a free day whilst in Newcastle or Northumberland, pack a picnic and go. The journey to the falls takes ...
