Advantages: A beautiful house kept as it was in Beatrix Potter's time Disadvantages: It might get a bit busy in summer
...recently we visited her house, Hill Top, which now belongs to the National Trust.
Where is it?
Hill Top is in a village called Near Sawrey which is situated about one mile to the west of Lake Windermere, about halfway along the lake and about two miles south of Hawkshead.
How do you get there?
When I first visited about 25 years ago I was staying in Ambleside and walked from there down to Bowness on Windermere where I caught a ferry across Lake ... ...car park for visitors to Hill Top.
It is also accessible by a variety of local Stagecoach buses and details can be found on their website.
When is it open?
It is open from the middle of February until the end of October each year, every day except Friday. It opens at 1100 and closes at 1530 until the middle of March; after that it opens at 1030 and closes at 1630 for the rest of the season.

...to visit Beatrix Potters house. Hill Top farm is a delightful 17th century farmhouse that was the home of Beatrix Potter for many years.
How to get there.

Hill Top farm is situated in the tiny hamlet of near Sawrey.It is 2 miles south Hawkshead. For exact directions you can always use the AA route finder. It is possible to get to Hill Top farm by train although it is a bit of a mission! There is a train station in Windermere and ... ...park 150 yards away from Hill Top house. Parking is free.
Hill Top farmhouse.
The ticket office is situated in the car park. It opens at 10am and it is best to arrive as early as possible to ensure you get a ticket. Hill Top farmhouse is very small and visitor numbers are limited each day. You will be issued with a timed ticket and you will have to wait until the stated time to be allowed into the house.
Admission is not cheap at £5.80 per adult ...

...the title on this review Hill Top is not situated in Ambleside. It is in fact in the tiny English Lake District village of Sawrey.
It is the delightful small 17th-century farmhouse where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her famous children's stories
To visit the house of the writer of Peter Rabbit is a must for any fan of of the little books. The house is an art gallery of Beatrix' work. As you walk from room you can try to find the orginal pieces ... ...books. The dresser is still there which was used for the tailor of gloucester and the teacup which a mouse hides under!
As you move upstairs you actually pass the part of the stairs which is in the tom kitten book.
My favourite of all is the dolls house. It is off course mainly from the Tale of Two Bad Mice but inside is the actual handerchief from Peter Rabbit.

on arriving in the lakes i stood and looked around and in a few minutes all my stress and sadness left me .
the views are breath taking the walks are just so relaxing even if your a first timer in hiking there are so many walks aviable to all young familys people with dogs everyone makes you feel at home people even stop you and asks about your day the shops cater for all tastes its a wonderful place to visit and i look forward to going back each ...
