    Business trips can be tedious at the best of times but the tedium is exacerbated when overnight hotel accommodation offers little more than a bed for the night in a faceless establishment. Unfortunately, the Hilton at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport is just one of those faceless hotels. Convenience is the key to this hotel's success. It is linked to the airport by a covered walkway and so provides a superb base from which to operate when doing business in and around the Schiphol business area.     My partner and I decided to go for a city break to Amsterdam – somewhere we had fancied for a while and it provided me a chance to fly for the first time. After much shopping around, we booked (via Thompson online) for a 2 night stay at the 5 start Hilton Amsterdam (with direct flights from Cardiff with KLM) for approximately £280 pp. The hotel is about 15 minutes in a cab from Schipol airport (approximately 30 euro) which is what we opted for, although the Airport – Hotel shuttle bus stops outside the hotel and there is a tram stop just around the corner.     Please Note: the below review concerns the AMSTERDAM Hilton. Not the Schiphol Hilton. The website makes it impossible to correct this. On November 30th 2007, I called and booked the John and Yoko Suite (2000 USD p.night) for new year's eve. The suite appeared to be available, they took my reservation and my AMEX details. The following day the front office supervisor sent me an e-mail stating that "he would send my confirmation soonest, early next week" Almost one week later, on Thursday 6, the same supervisor sends me an e-mail saying that -in order for my reservation to go through- ... more
