The Hilton Amsterdam opened in 1962, being the first international Hilton Hotel in Europe and the first international hotel in The Netherlands. Designed in 1958 by the Dutch architect Maaskant, its structure continued along the same lines of Berlage\\\'s earlier ideas. The hotel\\\'s characteristic V-shape is significant as it shows where the two main avenues of Amsterdam meet, the Apollolaan and the Minervalaan.

My partner and I decided to go for a city break to Amsterdam – somewhere we had fancied for a while and it provided me a chance to fly for the first time. After much shopping around, we booked (via Thompson online) for a 2 night stay at the 5 start Hilton Amsterdam (with direct flights from Cardiff with KLM) for approximately £280 pp. The hotel is about 15 minutes in a cab from Schipol airport (approximately 30 euro) which is what we opted for, ...
