...day Conference held at The Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, so my workplace thought it appropriate that I had a two night stay at the venue: who was I to argue? It’s the HILTON after all!

My Final Thoughts: I was looking forward to staying at this hotel and I was very disappointed: with the standard of décor (quite a few public areas were in dire need of a lick of paint), the unappetising cuisine [even at the Conference ...

Advantages: The lobby and restaraunts just might make you feel like a high flyer. Disadvantages: Gloomy exterior, matched by the anonymous bedrooms. Extortionately expensive, for what it is.
...the motorway to the Birmingham Hilton at around 110mph, fag in one hand, mobile in the other, sometimes negotiating bends by steering with his elbow. I'm a bit of a nervous passenger, and my life flashed before my eyes on several occasions.
I was at the NEC for a PC World conference. A year's worth of dealing with the public had earned me a customer service award, and I was chosen to attend the yearly software conference, PC World's most lavish ... ...for two nights at the Hilton Metropole, but I was fed, watered and pumped full of booze, all at the Dixon Group's expense.
Now THAT was impressive - the only money I spent in two days was £3.60 on a beer - the scale of the tab Dixons picked up for that conference must have been gigantic.
The Hilton Metropole is a strange place. On the outside, it looks a little like a prison - all blackened brick and bars on all the windows. In fact, it makes the ...

Advantages: Location Disadvantages: Overpriced and unhelpful, zero customer service.
I organised a conference on behalfof the company I work for. The room needed to be big enough for 80 caberet style. We also needed a stage to be set up so the room needed to be large enough for that. I also needed to have 80 bedrooms for the night and a dinner in the evening. Basically the delegates were arriving on the Tuesday morning, having a conference in the day, having dinner and then leaving the following morning. Sounds pretty straight forward ... ...to the manager who I had been dealing with. As with all of these things there are a number of changes which happen along the way, I was dealing with all the table plans and everything like that so they didn't have to worry about all the hassle of redoing them when people didn't turn up and changing people onto different tables.
Anyway, at every stage I kept them informed of the changes to the rooming list and detailed them in numerous emails. We ...

Advantages: Close to NEC Disadvantages: Very poor value for money. Inefficient service.
I booked in advance through conference organisers. This was a mistake. Suggest you make own arrangement with hotel direct. I paid £135 for a small single bedded room with an old TV. I reckon I could have got this same room well under £100 if I had booked myself direct. Being the closest hotel to the NEC is probably why it is one of the most expensive. I compared my facilities with others in different hotels. They all had better value for money. Hotel ... ...newspaper. I was charged for it but it never arrived. Then I made use of the rapid checkout service which promised a receipt would be sent on to me. This did not occur so I had to telephone the hotel for this.
In summary a very overpriced hotel for facilities offerred and service provided. ...
