...number of people stated this hotel was dirty, the staff unfriendly and their stay a nightmare with a majority saying to stay well clear.
Having just returned from my holiday there, I'd like to balance this out with my experience. Being a 2-star hotel, I wasn't expecting the earth and found myself pleasantly surprised. When you enter the hotel lobby, it shines at you with the marble floors and chandaliers; all very clean and had that bit of wow-factor. ...

Pennsylvania Hotel Review ofHotel Pennsylvania, New York Cityby

Advantages: Close to Macys, Madison Square Gardens, Subway Links Disadvantages: Very busy, unclean, in need of serious updating
This hotel is situated in a fantastic location and is very cheap, however the standards inside reflect this, and the location is by far the best thing about this hotel
On entry to the hotel there is a large foyer area which is always extremely busy, this hotel boasts about being one of the largest hotels in New York City comprising of around 1700 rooms and so check in can be a long wait and then another long wait if you need to return to reception ...

Advantages: Quality Room On Complaining Of Poor Standards Disadvantages: Fourth Room Lucky!
...an overall view.
Location of the hotel is good, right near Maddison Square Gardens. We booked for three nights as part of our 21st birthday present to one another, this was our second visit to NYC after getting engaged the year before (see review of Roosevelt Hotel). Price was good for time of year though this was in comparison to Christmas week the year before.
Upon arriving, believing we'd booked a room as shown on the website (which turns ...

...we arrived over. With decent hotel rooms at a premium in NY, its hit-and-miss what sort of room you'll get for the type of money you'd pay for a 4 or 5 star elsewhere.
The front of the hotel and the lobby are impressive - marble floors, shining reception, deep carpet. The give-away is the crowd of increasingly dis-heartened would-be guests assembled in the middle, waiting desperately to check-in. To say the reception staff are inefficient and unhelpful ...

Advantages: Fantastic Location, Price Disadvantages: Very Basic
...the long search for a hotel began.
We wanted somewhere that was a hotel (and not a hostel), a good central location close to attractions and transport and a decent room - the hard task was that we only wanted to pay £400 (£200 each) for a 6 nights stay. Given that this is New York City we didn't think we would get all our requests for that price, but then we fell upon the Hotel Pennsylvania.
The price was great so we booked straight away (it ...

Advantages: great Location, Great Value Disadvantages: No frills
The hotel Pennsylvania is a tourist class hotel. This means low bidget no frills you get what you pay for. but at the end of the day if all you want is a clean room with a bed shower and basic tv, this hotel more than does the job. having been to NY numerous times I can genuinely say you will not find a better priced hotel. It is clean, the rooms are a fair size in relatively good condition. I have only had two problems during many stays there and ...

Advantages: Cheap, fantastic foyer Disadvantages: Dirty, small rooms
...original telephone number for this hotel is 65000, so, for Glenn Miller fans, this has to be worth a visit, but I cannot recommend staying there.
The location of this two-star hotel is excellent, being in the garment district, where the major designers used to have their establishments, right opposite Penn Station and Madison Square Gardens, over the street from Macy's, and less than two blocks from the Empire State Building.
The huge foyer ...

Quick review of Hotel Pennsylvania, New York City Review ofHotel Pennsylvania, New York Cityby
unberleavable
We have just completed a world trip and I must say this was the worst hotel of our Travels. Upon arrival we were advised there was no reservations made for us, for which we had legit vouchers and confirmation numbers
They advised us the hotel was booked out, but still had rooms available via the net.
The Check In staff and Manager (Glen) were unapproachable and we sat guarding our luggage in their lobby for 2 and 1/2 hours while our travel agent in OZ rebooked a room for us via the net.
They would not allow us to go somewhere else other than the lobby, or store our luggage while something... more
...was sorted out.
Eventually a room was found for us through the oz travel agent, but in the room, the smell of urine and condition of the room was appauling. With windows that half closed. Writing and marks??? on the walls.
Please be warned this is not a hotel you wish to stay at for their lack of service and consideration for the weary traveller

Advantages: Clean and well equipped good position Disadvantages: expensive for the single traveller
The Hotel Pennsylvannia is the best hotel I have stayed in in central
Manhattan. It is perfectly situated for easy access to all of New Yorks best sights. For the single traveller it may be expensive as I found on my first visit but for two it is great. I reccomend booking in advance as rooms are very expensive taken on arrival. Times Square, Maddison Square Gardens, Empire State Building, Central Park and Fifth Avenue are all within easy walking ...

Awful room Review ofHotel Pennsylvania, New York Cityby
coolclog
We arrived in New york in February after a long flight with continental to Newark airport.
We checked into a nice helpful lobby however when we got out of the lift we were greeted with an awful old musky smell. We went into our room and found it smelt even worse. The bathroom was dirty and mouldy, there were bare wires in the room and damp across the walls to make matters worse 2 male guests walked in to the room as they had been issued the same ...

...york city landed us at Hotel Pennsylvania. Great location, just across from the Amtrak on seventh avenue. After a long wait in the lobby (it was late and they were obviously not staffed for the number of people), we get our room key. Nice to see a secuirty guard keeping non residents out of the elevators. room was on the 11th floor, at the end of a long corridor. Big surprise. Big room, large comfortable bed, Old, small but functional washroom, big ...
