Advantages: That presidential suite looks nice, good views over the city Disadvantages: Service isn't fantastic, above budget for the average traveller
...AND GETTING THERE
The Hyatt Regency Hotel is situated off Broad Street, one of the main A-roads in and out of Birmingham City centre. Broad Street has become a haven for bars and restaurants, with a delightful canal side complex and lots and lots of bustling clubs and pubs. As such, it has also become something of a focal point for the hotel trade and there is a real glut of hotels within a 1-mile radius. The Hyatt Regency is perhaps the most distinctive ... ...the VIP floor) so the Hyatt is therefore definitely aiming for the luxury end of the market.
If you are arriving by car, the hotel is relatively easy to find. Birmingham City centre is easily accessible from a number of motorways, although I would recommend inspecting the route on a street map, as the one-way system can be a bit awkward. The main entrance to the hotel is just off Broad Street, on a side street, which also houses the central Travel ...

Advantages: Now unique in the UK - the only representative of the Hyatt Disadvantages: Very average compared against the standards of this chain
...our natural choice was the Hyatt Regency Hotel in the centre of Birmingham. Billed as the premier hotel venue in Britain’s second city, this is now the only remaining representative of the upscale American chain in the UK – the Carlton Tower and the Lowndes Hotels in London having been sold about three years ago. The Hyatt brand started on the west coast of America in the early 1960s with a mission statement to be large, open plan and generously ... ...itself on bringing “that celebrated Hyatt Touch” to the city. It is a modern 24 storey tower block built on Broad Street which is just outside the pedestrianised city centre. It has 319 rooms and suites. The main entrance is from Bridge Street where there is an adjacent taxi rank. This is presided over by the bell captain and his staff.
The revolving and swing doors lead into the main atrium area. This is a two storey open plan space with columns ...

Advantages: Brilliant view Disadvantages: Over Priced
...to be pampered. The Hyatt is located on Broad Street in Birmingham and is 24 stories high giving a fabulous view over the city, our room was located on the 18th floor (high up at our request) and the view was phenomenal. The cost for 2 nights bed and breakfast set us back just under £400 so we had high expectations.
On our arrival (and much to my annoyance), the valet parking service was not available, we had to leave our cases with the conceierge ... ...from the hotel (which costs £12 per 24 hours, and if I'm honest doesn't look too safe, although no harm came to the car during our stay). After the long walk back from the car park we collected our baggage and struggled to get it through the doors, as the concierege just stood there watching, now I know it's my fault for over-packing, but a girl gotta have choices of outfit! , previously when I have stayed in a small bed and breakfast for £30 a night ...

Advantages: Good location Disadvantages: Unwelcoming
The Hyatt is Birmingham city centres ‘best’ hotel. It likes you to know this, and tends to treat customers as though they should be grateful for the priviledge of spending their money there. It is certainly not the sort of hotel you would choose to go into just for a coffee or a meal. The location is excellent with easy access to the airport as well as the convention centre and indoor arena. The food is of a good standard, and room service is speedy. ...

...expectations. You cannot fault the Hyatt Regency Hotel in any way. The rooms are very comfortable, I had a sensational view of the city on the 19th floor. Room service is fantastic. Whatever time of day it is, whatever you require, the Hyatt fullfils your needs.

Advantages: Convienient for the city center Disadvantages: Cold impersonal and lonely, checkout is very slow
I stayed ther on business in 1998.
Cold welcome at reception from clearly stressed staff. Dining area is
cramped with a limited selection of fancy meals, the staff are again
cold and uninterested.
The hotel is a concrete obelisk which is poorly disguised as a hotel
inside, sound proofing between rooms is poor as I could hear a television form three rooms along the corridor. The room was comfortable but nothing special justified the cost.
The ... ...is
staffed with characterless staff.
Location in the center of the city is good and there is copious car
parking although a poorly posted sign makes missing the turn likely.
Beware two of the lifts are glass walled and when unexpected the sight
from 200ft can be very arresting.
I wouldn't return there again if I was paying. ...
