...recently I stayed in the Ibis on Charles Street which is located just five minutes from Canal Street and the bus station; and ten minutes from Picadilly Station and the city centre. It was also one of the best value city centre hotels. I would advise booking if you are staying at weekends. Rooms are mainly doubles.
As the hotel is an Ibis, you can expect certain things from the hotel, such as a bar, restaurant and 24 hour reception and rooms of ... ...restaurant, whilst not exactly cordon bleu was good value, as was the bar. The food was mainly burgers, chicken, nachos type meals suiting people requiring a quick, filling meal before going on elsewhere. The reception staff were mainly helpful, though I would prefer a baggage storeroom, rather than just leaving my bags by the reception in the time between checking out and actually leaving the city.
