Pleasantly Surprised

Advantages: Ease of travel/accomodations
Disadvantages: overly aggresive drinkers

Personally, I was pleasantly surprised with both the circuit and with the turnout for this race. Having been an avid CART and F-1 fan for more years than I can remember, I would recommend this venue to anyone who wanted to get a taste of not only a legendary racing facility, but to also take the time and wander out into the country to take in some of the sights and meet the locals. Indianapolis has done itself proud in attracting and keeping high ...
..."improvements" to the track to accomodate F-1 racing was no small engineering task, and while (to purists) it may not be a classic venue, as Monaco, Silverstone, or Monza, it was a fine effort and a job well done to make for interesting racing. From what I have gathered from persons very closely associated with some of the teams that ran there, I did not hear any disparaging remarks that would give me an opinion that any teams would boycott further ...

Impressed.....

Advantages: Good race.
Disadvantages: Not in Europe!

Having watched a fair bit of American motorsport, I can honestly say that I was very impressed with the American GP. Most american motorsport looks tatty and ilmanaged, but the GP managed to convey pure professionalism, which was great both for the sport, and the UK, which hosts most of the GPO's teams. The crowd where great, and there where no end of things happening to entertain the crowd. I'll be booking myself a ticket for next years, I can ...

Banked corners... in F1?!!!?

Advantages: Perhaps make for an exciting race
Disadvantages: Boring - what does a bank-curve do?

Well, I think personally, bringing F1 to a semi-oval track with an infield section is a poor attempt by the FIA to bring back overtaking to F1. They have seen the wonderful overtaking manoeuvres and considered that bringing F1 to such a circuit might have the same effect. Pheonix wasn't too bad a circuit but I think Indianapolis was a bad choice. Malasya is the only new circuit that I am impressed with. Sorry, but Max Mosley and his posy have made ...

Why did they go back

Advantages: in america
Disadvantages: boring!

The idea of going back to america with F1 might be a good idea. However, i think that their choice of circuit was more for its name that anything else. Indionapolis, the home of american motorsports, the second most well know motorsport event in the world - the first being monaco - and last but not least, no place for F1. I feel that this is just a stunt to try and bridge the gap between english and american racing so that we will all eventualy end ...
...a crash for any kind of action. I know that the F1 track is only utilising 1/6th of the oval but i still think it is in the wrong place. Surely they could have looked at the cart series to find a better track. If the teams were looking at Montoya (good driver) for next season, surely they must have seen somthing better. ...

Return to USA

Advantages: Exciting Race
Disadvantages: The track is too dangerous for formula 1

After a 9 year absence grand prix racing will return to the USA. The track is on the site of where the indinapolis 500 is held, and uses one of the banked turns and the straight from that race in the grand prix track. The rest of the grand prix track is lots of short straights and slow corners. I honestly fear the worst when this grand prix happens, not because it will be dull, (in fact i think it will be very exciting) but because I fear a driver ...
...is because the cars will be running with minimum downforce, therefore when the cars reach the banking they could be running at 200mph, if a driver makes a mistake or the car has a mechanical failure, the driver could head straight into the wall (there is no gravel trap or tyres) at 200mph, and formula one cars are not designed to hit a wall at that speed. I am sure that the FIA has fully considered all of this, otherwise the track would not have ...

It's gonna be interesting

Advantages: It'll be interesting to see how it all works
Disadvantages: If it's really bad it won't be interesting for long

In two weeks time Formula 1 returns to America after a break of about 9 years and boy are things going to be interesting. First of all let me reassure anyone worried that the race is going to be on the oval - it's not. It will use one of the corners but the majority of the track is in the infield section and is more like a standard F1 track. The official site, http://www.usgpindy.com/ has maps and even a computer generated lap of the track and a ...

Great New Track

Advantages: Overtaking
Disadvantages: Twisty

This track was used for the first time last year, but I have to say it is a great addition to the F1 calendar. There was a lot of talk before the event, speculation as to the design of the track? How much of the original Indianapolis track would renmain, would F1 cars really drive around in circles? The answer is no, and despite retaining very little of the original and historic track, they have produced a great F1 circuit. Its main feature is ...
...in to a long start/finish straigh, which is ended by a slow right-left corner. This is great because the banked corner allows trailing cars to closely follow the leading car through the turn, and then have a great shot at getting a slip stream down the main straight and out brake the other car in to the slow first turn. The great start/finish section is complemented by a tight twist infield, a short straigh in to a combination of two tight hairpins ...

Brilliant

Advantages: Overtaking at last, Being able to follow so close
Disadvantages: last 2 corners before banking

Absolutely brilliant, some of the best racing I have seen for a long time, I think the banking and the long straight worked well, giving the drivers more chance of over taking into the first bend. Shame Mika’s engine went as I think it would of put the icing on the cake. And what abought villanurve and frentzens battle nose to tail, at high speeds. The day goes to shumacher absolute brilliant drive and to be followed home by rubens great for the ...

The Brickyard

Advantages: Good facilities and wide track for ovetaking.
Disadvantages: Infield section too tight.

The idea of a Formula 1 race around an oval doesn't sound appealing to me, as part of the interest in the sport is the variety of circuits. Thankfully the Indy circuit the drivers will face is different from the one used for the Indy 500. I've driven around the circuit myself (in the game F1 2000!) and the circuit uses half the full Indy 500 track, this being the star/finish straight with one of the long 180 degree banked bends, before plunging ...
...bit 'mickey mouse' in that it is a series of tight bends with short straights between with almost no room to manoevre and overtake. It will present an interesting race though as teams will have to decide whether to run little downforce to maximise on the potentially very high speeds on the long straight and banked corner, or use more wing to get throught the infield section quickly. I expect to see the leading teams run very little wing so they ...
