Advantages: Good Prices Disadvantages: Never feeling happy again about paying Supermarket Prices
...the opening of the new indoor markets.
They sell absolutely everything, clothes, stationary, mobile phones, sweets, and of course food.
There is a very cheap multi story car park above the markets (50 pence per hour)which is normally enough time to get your provisions in, although most bus routes now stop near the markets.
Meat and Fish are available from around 30-40 independant market traders and is all at least half the price of Sainsburys ... ...but not for the faint hearted, with traders ancious to make a sale they will shout at you to attract your attention.
I personally vist about once a fortnight, and tend to go back to the same people (Doherty the Butcher, and Barlow's for fish), as when your face becomes known to them they tend to look after you when it comes to price, and this only takes a couple of visits.
Going there at about 4 o'clock is another good move as they are often looking ...

Advantages: clean, safe, friendly, diverse and you can find many things there Disadvantages: the fish smell can get to you
The indoor market has wider and wider selection of everything!
A café, clothes, hair stuff, jewellery the all important wind chimes, a variety body piercing shop, funky coloured tights, fish, meat, food and everything you can think of its there’s, a sweet corner, miscellaneous, china figures, stationary – everything!
However even if you do find many cheap and useful things you like, which I sometimes do for instance I have thing about ... ...door market which sells your usual fruit and veg etc.
The indoor market also has a wide selection of music to fit many tastes.
Its safe and you’ll see many families form all walks of life there.
I urgently, seriously and adamantly recommend you paying them a visit!

Advantages: Good Parking Facilities Disadvantages: Lack of top of the range fish
Poor selection of top of the range fish, such as Halibut, Turbot etc. Shell fish is ordinary with lots of prefrozen fish....hardly ever do they stock Langoustines.
Plenty of fish to suit West Indian tastes but all frozen!
I get fresher fish and a far greater selection from my local Asda supermarket.
Asda prices are generally less than the market. Perhaps this is due to the inflated rental charges that the market traders have to pay Birmingham ... ...meat with a great selection of cuts. Good quality Mutton is available along with Goat. Prices are very reasonable and compare favourably with Supermarkets and local butchers.
The market is an interesting place but falls short because of its fish section.
Impossible to give price ranges because fish and meat prices will vary, dependant on supply and demand. One price that seems to be stable is shoulder of mutton at £1.99 lb.
