Advantages: No crime, peaceful, good weather, lovely scenery Disadvantages: Expensive
The Isles of Scilly lie 28 miles off Lands End off the Cornish coast, and is the most South-Westerly part of the British Isles.
Out of the 100 or so tiny islands, only 5 of these are inhabited, with St Mary's being the largest and main Island.
The name "Scilly" is thought to come from the Viking word "Syllorgar" and the Romans "Sully" meaning sun Islands (the 'C' added in the 16th Century).

You can also just relax on one the most beautiful beaches in Britain, with white sands and craggy rock pools for the kids.

Bryher is located next to Tresco and is reached by a boat from St Mary's, sometimes via Tresco.

Advantages: Beautiful, relaxing, largely unspoiled, friendly Disadvantages: The boat trip...!
...I had seen the Isles of Scilly on TV shows, including Coast, and read about the Islands in the Sunday newspapers, and I was delighted that I had the opportunity to visit the place for myself. Fast forward to the night prior and I drove down to my Sister's house in Truro ready for the boat trip the following morning. By this time, her 16 year old daughter decided to have a teen strop, the bottom line being the lack of showering facilities and the ... ...us!!!
'''Getting to the Isles of Scilly''
There are three methods of transportation to the Isles of Scilly. Passengers can get the 28 seater-helicopter from Penzance; the Scillonian III passenger boat, which also goes from Penzance, or the Skybus fixed wing aircraft from Lands End, which seats 8 or 16 passengers, depending on the actual plane used. I have to confess I did not take too much of a role in the decision making and booking process, and ...

Advantages: A quiet and peaceful holiday destination Disadvantages: No shops for the shopaholics
...100 small islands named the Isles of Scilly, which are surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. But something called the North Atlantic Drift warms the islands, giving them a much milder climate than the mainland, with more sunshine, less rainfall and little or no frost and snow, allowing much beautiful flora and fauna to be found. Also migrating birds sometimes stop off for a rest, if on a long flight. These islands are owned by the ‘Duchy of Cornwall’. ... ...GETTING TO THE ISLES OF SCILLY is quite easy, providing the weather is not foggy if flying. Maybe the most popular way is to fly by HELICOPTER from St. Just at Penzance in Cornwall. The helicopters fly to St. Marys and Tresco. Tresco would be the best destination for Bryher, as the ferry trip between these two islands is only 5 minutes at high tide (around 20 minutes at low tide, as the landing on the other side of the island has to be used when ...

...a week amongst the Scilly Isles on 36 feet of Yacht. Anyone who’s ever travelled by boat, especially a small one will tell you there is something special about arriving somewhere by water. Forget the hassle of airports, the smell of train stations and the queue for Big Macs at the motorway services; you just cruise in, drop anchor, stick a bottle of wine in a bucket of seawater to chill, drop the tender (dingy, with an outboard engine (if you’re ... ...to do this than the Isles of Scilly.
We arrived in St Marys (the largest of the Islands) on a calm May evening. We’d had to motor from Penzance due to a complete lack on wind (making the sails useless), but made good time completing the trip in 11 hours. We’d been lucky with the weather as the previous day we had been fog bound on the mainland, and the day before that we’d been battling some evil waves on a 6 hour sail from Falmouth ...

...five populated islands of the Isles of Scilly, off the coast of Cornwall. These islands have often been linked to the history of lost civilisations: are these maybe the mountain peaks of Atlantis, or the remains of the lost land of Lyonesse? Just the right mystical setting to follow the trail of another myth: Robinson's lonesome life on a distant island. Although, admittedly, I had not planned to stay there alone, or with a servant called Friday, ... ...our weekend get-away to the Isles of Scilly is cancelled, the lady is put on hold, and she may just have realised what she has missed.

Advantages: Beautiful unspoilt landscape, lovely beaches Disadvantages: Far too expensive when compared with overseas
The Isles of Scilly is a collection of five inhabited and thousands of uninhabited small islands off Lands End in Cornwall. They can be reached by either air or sea from Penzance.
The main island, St Mary's is considerably larger than the others and is the only one to have built up roads and a large village/town. Most of the accomodation is on St Mary's, but all the other inhabited islands can be stayed on as well.
The seas are beautifully clean ... ...the main problem with the Isles of Scilly is the expense. It is very expensive to get to and the accomodation is not cheap either. With package holidays to places such as the Greek islands now around £230 for a week to make the Scilly's value for money they would have to be much cheaper than they are. ...

The Islanders call there islands the fortunate islands; perhaps they're right. For the tourist it should be known that the Scillies are easy to get to and esay to get around. They are very safe but by no means soft. The locals are friendly and there is a lot of drinking that goes on on all of the main islands.
Hughtown, St Mary's has 3 good pubs and some other slightly less welcoming establishments and hundreds of restaurants. There are lots of ...

The Isles of Scilly is the most beautiful place that I have ever visited. I have been going for the past 22 years, I am 22 by the way. I go twice a year, once by boat (2½hrs) and once by plane (17mins). I go on the boat in June for a week, and I go by plane in August – September for 3 weeks. I go so often because I used to live there when I was 18.
