JOHN FOWLER PARK'S CAN'T BE BEAT (updated)

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: none so far

...have stayed at three different John Fowler holiday parks in Cornwall (ang again next week) and have had a really good holiday. For us, we just want a base to come home to at night, as we spend the days out and about sightseeing. There are 15 John Fowler Holiday Parks in Devon and Cornwall. Some of them in woodlands, some of them near beaches. All of them conveniently located. I am only going to mention the three that we have stayed in. ST IVES ...
...too. I should tell John Fowler, maybe they will give us a free holiday?!!! We booked a two-storey villa for £96, which sleeps 4/6 people. The villa was like a little 2 up 2 down house. In fact the whole park looked like a council estate! The kitchen was equipped with fridge, cooker, microwave. The tv was tiny. You only get a remote control if you stay in the top class accommodation. The annoying thing about this park is that you have to park in ...

John Fowler Holiday Park - Illfracombe

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: To many to list - complete waste of hard earned money

We went to John Fowler, Illfracombe holiday park during August 2008 and paid over £850 for a week in their "Royal Gold Bungalow" accommodation. We booked after looking at their holiday brochure - what an absolute waste of money and i would not recommend this "park" to anyone, i came away feeling i had been taken for a fool for parting with £850 to stay on this so called holiday park. 1. When you book a holiday for your family and you are paying ...
...have certain expectations about the type of holiday you can expect and the JFH brochure makes a good job of confirming those expectation - until you get to the holiday park and the reality of the situation very quickly kicks in and you find you are on the worst, most child unfriendly holiday park ever. There is one very big problem with JFH Illfracombe , It is not a holiday park - it is a housing estate with a basic swimming pool and entertainment ...

Clean, cheap and very cheerful

Advantages: Cheap, clean, excellent facilities
Disadvantages: Very steep hills

...from a week on the John Fowler Holiday site in Widemouth Bay, Cornwall, I had to quickly write an opinion. We arrived after a slow journey down the M5 to a very quick, efficient check-in where we were given the keys to the caravan and a map of the site showing us how to get to the caravan. We booked the bronze caravan, the cheapest type on the site. After entering the caravan we were overwhelmed with the cleanliness of the accommodation. The bedrooms ...
...beds were extremely small but adequate for children. The living area was enormous which would easily have seated 12 people! This area could easily sleep 4 although only sold as sleeping 2. The bathroom comprises of a sink, toilet and shower. There was adequate shelving in the bathroom for everybodies toiletries aswell. The kitchen area had a 4 ring gas oven, sink and lots of cupboard space. The boiler was a combi boiler which heats the water on ...

Quick review of John Fowler Holidays

John Fowler- Coombe Martin 16/8/08-23/8/08- 6 in party. Well on first impression it was dated and very very old fashioned...got into my 6 berth Caravan and Yes it was, what a surprise. The caravan smelt old and musty and very damp as it was under lots of big trees. Ended up sleeping on the settee's because the mattress smelt so bad. Not enough crockery or untensils.Tthe "club" was so dated and tatty we didnt even bother to go down to it. There was no where for my daughter to just play around the caravan and parking was so terribly "tight",crammed in. No Launderette on site or ironing facilities either?!?!? VERY POOR VALUE FOR MONEY! ...

Quick review of John Fowler Holidays

Stayed in Royal Gold bungalow 23/30/08/2008.Site and bungalow clean and tidy but bungalow space at a premium.Reported faulty towel rail on first day but it never got fixed. Laundry machines were next to useless. Washing came out wringing wet and after two hours in tumble drier no difference. Got the feeling that washer set at minimum spin and tumble drier set at minimum heat so it would cost more to do laundry.Pool overcrowded and kids aloud to run riot.No chance of a proper swim as it did not open till ten.Doubt if we would go back. ...

Quick review of John Fowler Holidays

ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.! WE STAYED AT THE SITE IN ILLFRACOMBE AND IT WAS AWFUL. THE APARTMENT WAS TINY , SUPPOSEDLY FOR 6 PEOPLE BUT THEIR WERE 2 TINY BEDROOMS ,TINY KITCHEN AND ADEQUATE BATHROOM. THE LOUNGE WAS QUITE LARGE BUT ONLY HAD 1 SOFA SO ONLY ENOUGH SEATING FOR 2. IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY NEWLY BUILT BUT IT WAS VERY ROPEY AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN EMBARESSED TO PUT THE FURNISHINGS ON A SKIP. THE ENTERTAINMENT WAS TACKY, THE FOOD WAS AWFUL , THE BEER WAS OVERPRICED AND FLAT. AS I SAID YOU ONLY GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR AND FOR THE PRICE IT WAS SATISFACTORY BUT WE WERE RELIEVED WE HAD ONLY BOOKED A WEEKEND BREAK ...

John Fowler Holiday Park Ilfracombe, Devon.

Advantages: Nice pool
Disadvantages: Tiny apartment & very tatty

Just returned from John Fowler Holiday in Ilfracombe. Disappointed with accomodation, very small, although credit due, it was clean. Buttercup apartment stated it slept 6-8 in brochure but it was a push with 4 adults & 2 children. Tiny kitchen - had new microwave but nowhere nearby to plug in unless we unplugged the fridge. Bathroom tatty, no basic things like hooks or rails to hang towels. Toilet leaked, called maintenance, arrived prompt but ...
...running longer- it wasn't, it was a leaking pipe but he wasn't having it! Lots of holes in walls & generally tatty accomodation. Our bedroom window overlooked a constantly humming electricity substation. Seems like they've pumped all their investment into their clubhouse when they ought to focus a bit more on the apts. Nice pool which states it's open til 6.30, last entry at 6pm but they kick everyone out at 6.10pm?? Lifeguard was asleep in his ...

John Fowler - Combe Martin

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Do not go there!

We stayed in the little holiday park in Combe Martin, lovely gardens and wonderful view. It looked primising and much nicer than the caravan parks. However, the cornflower chalet was horrible, damp, smelly, dated, tasteless, car boot sale decoration, disgusting carpets, bad lighting, not a single reading lamp in sight. Generally speaking crappy and shabby. And the shower was an insult. The bar looks equally dated and dark. And there is no laundry ...

St Ives is a bore

Advantages: nice accomadation, warm welcome
Disadvantages: mainly for children, middle of nowhere, nothing to do

We went to St Ives it was my first "holiday" with my boyfriends family and they had been a few times before but when their children were younger. I thought we would have loads of fun, not the case. The clubhouse has a sort of game room, a bar and a big room for the cabaret act and bingo in the evening. They had a swimming pool but thats about it. We enjoyed the entertainment at first but it got boring after a week. We went swimming a lot because ...
...place for young children and adults who were made happy as long as their kids were happy. The challets were nice and spacious. They looked clean. We stayed in an eight person challet I think but there wasn't much room for us in the sitting/dining room area. Sometime someone would have to stand or sit on the floor. St ives seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. It was okay if you liked cheap shopping for ugly gifts. We already live by the sea so ...

John Fowler Holidays - St Ives Holiday Village

Advantages: excellent entertainment, friendly staff, camp near to Hayle
Disadvantages: about 10 mins away from st ives, cold and damp.

...Ives is one of the John Fowler Holiday parks situated in Lelant Downs in Cornwall. Although there are major adjustments need to be made to the park all the staff were friendly. There was great entertainment during the 2008 season especially when there were power cuts where the ents staff had to fill in. This park is cheap value in price. So for that amount of money what do you really expect? I have been going to St Ives Holiday Village quite regular ...
