Advantages: Friendly staff, modern decor, lots of handy facilities, great location Disadvantages: Rooms are a bit on the small side and cramped
A couple of weekends ago I went to Amsterdam with my boyfriend. We wanted to find a hotel which was close to the centre so it was easy to get around, but that wasn't too expensive (if we could help it!)
I went on lastminute.com and I saw a deal for one of the 'secret hotels'. This means that you don't know which hotel you will be staying at, but that you will get it at a discounted price. It told us the rough location (around Rembrant Square), the ... ...out which hotel you are staying at as soon as you have made the booking. We thought it would be quite exciting to get one of the 'secret hotel' deals, it was in the right location for us and sounded like it had everything we needed so we went ahead and booked it for the price of £287 for three nights. The deal was also that we would get the best available double room when we got to the hotel.
The hotel that we had booked was the four star 'Jolly ...

Advantages: Central location and value for money Disadvantages: None
...We booked the Hotel Jolly Carlton from the internet where we got an excellent deal. The Hotel Jolly Carlton is owned by an Italian chain of hotels which have properties throughout Europe. It is situated right next to the Singel Flower Market and some of the rooms are lucky enough to overlook the Muntplein which chimes each hour on the hour 24 hours a day. The hotel reception has a luxurious feel and marble abounds. As first impressions count so much ... ...any hotel and the Hotel Jolly Carlton did not fail. The beautiful breakfast room (with yet more marble) was situated on the first floor and overlooked a busy street - but with double glazing you could admire the Amsterdammers going about their business in peace. Standard hotel food was on offer in the form of cooked items such as bacon, sausages, eggs and strangely enough - chips. Every member of staff we came into contact with was extremely pleasant ...

Advantages: Good location, near enough to the key sights, far enough away not to get ripped off Disadvantages: None really, slightly 'overrated' at 4* (Probably more a 3)
...Decided to stay in the Jolly Hotel for no other reason than Price, Location, and amenities, as after some significant Internet 'research' the Jolly Hotel seemed to have most of the criteria myself and my wife were looking for.
Let's face it, Amsterdam is the place you go for a few days to see the sights, sample the local cuisine or plantlife (depending on your taste), and generally chillout. The Hotel is just the base, a place to crawl back to when ... ...all I can say, we were out of the Hotel more than we were in it. For our needs the Jolly was absolutely fine, if, or should I say when we go back to Amsterdam, would be more than happy to book again.
Happy travels Taffylad ...
