I recently used KLM to fly from Birmingham to Lima, via Amsterdam.
The whole experience was very satisfying.
Checking in at Birmingham was a doddle, we booked through to Lima. The flights left on time. We were given a newspaper as we boarded the plane at Birmingham, followed by breakfast.
After a short stop over in Amsterdam (Schipol is a lot better place to spend a couple of hours than Heathrow), we took off on the 13 hour flight to Lima. We ... ...Birmingham we were told that KLM had forgotten to load our luggage onto the same plane as ourselves, and that it would follow us on. One piece arrived about 4 hours after us, delivered to our home, the other piece arrived the following day.
Customer service seems to mean something to our dutch cousins. They looked after us well on all flights, ant their organisation in dealing with the delayed flights was superb. ...

I have never been on 2 better flights. It was amazing. We were whisked from our local airport (Leeds) to Schiphol quickly and efficiently, where we arrived with no fuss. Check in queues were non-existent due to efficient and friendly staff. Or the small plane. With 90 minutes to wait, we decided to go to the VIP lounge, where we were showered with cake, coffee, and computer games. It was amazing. Our bags were transported to the next flight - we ... ...to the plane about 15 minutes before takeoff, and walked straight onto the plane. We settled into our large, comfortable, spacious seats in economy class (don't expect that in the new 777!!!), grabbed all available freebies, and waited for takeoff - which was precisely on time. Once we got up, we were offered free drinks - a service that continued throughout the flight - just go and ask for one - and watched the pleasing TV shows and excellent film ...

FIRST OF ALL, AS I HAD TO CONECT AT SCHIPOL ... KLM-KLM ... AND THE FIRST PLANE WAS SLIGHTLY DELAYED, THE (NONE TOO FRIENDLY) STAFF TOOK IT UPON THEMSELVES TO GIVE MY SEAT ON THE CONNECTING FLIGHT TO A STANDBY PASSANGER, RESULTING IN A 5 HOUR WAIT FOR ME! ... COULDN'T THEY HAVE CHECKED THEIR BOOKING REFERENCES?
THEY ARGUED WITH ME AND THEN IGNORED ME FOR OVER AN HOUR ANTIL ... ...THAT SHE HAD FLOWN WITH KLM SIX TIMES AND NOT ONCE HAD SHE AND HER LUGGAGE BEEN REUNITED ON ARRIVAL!
THIS MAY HAVE BEEN AN OVERSIGHT ON THAT DAY, BUT SINCE THEN A NUMBER OF BUSINESS AQUAINTANCES HAVE HAD THE MISFORTUNE OF TRAVELING WITH KLM AND HAVE ALSO SUFFERED SIMILAR PROBLEMS ... Advantages: Regional connections from UK airports Disadvantages: cost compared to some for short haul flights
KLM offer a wide range of flights from Amsterdam and have good connecting flights from many regional UK airports, making this a good option instead of Heathrow.
Amsterdam airport is also a good place to spend time between connections. With good shops and facilities, although prices are a bit steep for refreshments.
The service on KLM is pleasant, welcoming and friendly.
In flight entertainment is ok, meals on long haul good, but on short journeys ... ...of flight, a bread roll with cheese or ham is 'normal' quick journey fare, sometimes a cake too, and this is fine for UK to Amsterdam flights. On each occasion I have been offered a second roll if wanted, which is very good and drinks are also served without any fuss. Seats etc comfortable and prices quite reasonable for a major airline.
I have travelled with them on numerous occasions, and never had cause to complain.

Advantages: None! Disadvantages: Crappy service - no service and too much money for their flights!
...through the titles of the KLM opinion page and I really don't agree that they're a 'nice friendly airline', I think they are the absolute worst of airlines you could ever catch!
My experience with KLM, was when I was returning to England with my daughter (3 months old at the time).
Now, I do expect certain services when it comes to taking your children on long haul flights, (the flight with KLM was from Los Angeles to Amsterdam, then back to London), ... ...from Auckland - Tahiti - Los Angeles and they were absolutely wonderful, I can't praise them enough.
However, with KLM, the staff were rude, and they first tried to tell me to put my 3 month old daughter on the floor of a normal economy seat! Are they mad or what!?
There's no way a baby is going to fit there, what made my blood boil even more was that I couldn't have the seat in which had a basinette because there was another lady sitting there ...

...reviews of the nasty airline KLM i've got to write one that shows their other side.
I live in Sheffield England, Famouse for many things bust more recently the film The Full Monty.
Sheffield although being the countries 4th largest city only recently get a aitport and the first airline to announce services from there was KLM to Schipol.
I jumped at the chance of flying there and then a simple change in Amsterdam onto the international flight.
... ...airports let me assure you this is rare.
The flight was smooth, the inflight meal was nice, Piping hot and more than enough for a 70 minute flight, the inflight drinks service was better than on the long haul flights.
So come on KLM keep up the good work. ...

KLM is a very mixed bag for passengers from the UK. Plus points include excellent leg room and comfort in economy class. Staff and courtesy good and catering of a high quality. This together with the very low prices obtainable on flights to long distance destinations make it a winning combination.
However there are minus points:

...I arrived at Newcastle, the KLM staff were very friendly and helpful. Even confirming my booked seat, before leaving, I had to telephone Amsterdam to reserve my seat, and the operator spoke extremely good English. The food on the UK outbound service to Amsterdam was excellent, although the aircraft seating was rather cramped. When I got on the plane at Schipol, I was surprised to find, that I had a seat, at the front of the plane. The space there ... ...window seat, all it was, was a wall on the edge of the aircraft. ...aspect of the outbound flight! KLM claim that their fleet on 737's is the cream of the crop - however we boarded a tatty and quiet honestly smelly aircraft. The seats were tiny and I felt really crammed in to a window seat, I am only 5'7 and of average weight but my knees felt as if they were crammed in to the seat. This however was just the start .... the STAFF ARE TERRIBLE. I have never met such a surly bunch of cabin crew in my LIFE, I do not ... ...ever known. (I fly lots) Anyway, Im guessing if you have got this far without slamming the laptop lid down due to negativity I applaude you ... In conclusion ... KLM .... I shall not be city hopping with you or your surly staff ever again! ...

Advantages: large new fleet Disadvantages: can be expensive
We have flown KLM now for a good few years travelling from Sydney Australia to Edinburgh via Amsterdam. They are in my opinion the worlds most reliable airline and we have never experienced any delays, always been able to pre-book our seats, order in kids meals and the cabin crew have always done their best to make the long flight comfortable and enjoyable.
Our first trip over, our daughter was sick, so needed medical attention. The crew were very ... ...on change-over, they gave my daughter a lovely gift only reserved for their first class passangers.
The food is alway good, and the main meals alway come with a choice of wine. What I do like is the constant offer of drinks i.e. fruit juices, water and soft drink the whole trip to help to avoid jet lag.
I would not hesitate to reccomend this airline to anyone and look forward to flying them again in the near future. ...

I have flown with KLM several times over the last few years, and I must say they are getting more and more stingy. The actual flights are always okay, and they do seem to run on time as often or even more often than most other carriers, but unless you are an anorexic pixie you will leave the flight absolutely ravenous. Advantages: Their seating is very cramped and uncomfortable. Disadvantages: The staff aren't that child friendly.
This airline does not cater well for families and especially for those taking along a baby or toddler. When I travelled with a toddler and a baby in tow. The stewardess did not lend a hand to hold the baby while were sitting down, and later no one offered to warm the baby's bottle. Also the airplane did not have any special facilities for a cot. ...if you book early enough, KLM also generally offer the cheapest seats available to fly over the pond.
The one major downside to them is that most of their flights go via Amsterdam, which obviously adds time to the journey, and also means experiencing the wonders of the Bae 152 aircraft, which it has to be said does not offer the most stable of airborn experiences. Having said this, the staff remained courteous and extremely efficient throughout.
... ...I wasn't in too much pain when the time for touchdown came.
Overall, I cannot recommend KLM highly enough. And if, like me, you're a big fan of the wilderness, this flight offers the added bonus of flying up and over Greenland - a priceless experience just by itself. ...
