La Defense, Paris

The last time I was in Paris I happened to be staying in a hotel near La Defense. I was travelling for business, not pleasure, and therefore had not looked at a guide book about it before I arrived. When I stepped out of the La Defense metro station I had not been expecting anything and was so impressed with what I did see. A skyful of what are to me beautiful, modern, oddly-shaped skyscrapers. When I first got to Paris, our guide, among the standard programme, suggested to see La Defense. When we got here, after seeing the famous sites of old Paris, i was just wondering, why are we brought here. Living in the beginning of the XXJ century, it's no suprise that a lot of companies prefer to have offices in a high buildings. it's common in big cities like New York and Tokyo nowadays. Actually, no one can be surprised by that. And in this case I don't understand why is La Defense considered as a tourist attraction of Paris.
