Advantages Advantages Gorgeous scenery, variety, good for couples, families and older groups.

Disadvantages Disadvantages As with most of mainland Italy, it can be expensive if you're not careful.

I’m sure most people will have heard of Lake Garda, even if they haven’t been there themselves. Lake Garda is the largest, and arguably the best known, of the Italian Lakes. It lies in northern Italy, spanning the regions of Trentino, Lombardy and Veneto. These regions are similar to British counties, but each has a very distinct and separate identity, with individual cultural, political and gastronomic characteristics, and for some residents a strong sense of regional pride and identity. I have previously visited many parts of Italy, but Lake Garda had never really appealed to me in the past ... more

Advantages Advantages a stunning place to visit

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none.

Lake Garda Lake Garda is the largest Italian lake and it is in Northern Italy. It is between the regions of Lombardy, the Veneto and Trentino Alto-Adige or about half way between Venice and Milan. The lake is long and slim, the southern part of the lake is quite built-up and has rolling hills where as the northern part of the lake is surrounded by mountains. The scenery at Lake Garda is quite simply, stunning. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited in my life so far. It really is breathtaking. The clear blue lake and the towering magnificent mountains surrounding it make it ... more

Advantages Advantages Stunning scenery, glorious climate......... an almost perfect holiday

Disadvantages Disadvantages Rather touristy in places

I've long harboured a desire to visit Italy, and my dream finally came true this summer when we (my husband, 14 year old son and I) decided to spend our summer holiday in Limone on Lake Garda. Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake, is in northern Italy, not far from the city of Verona. It is divided between three Italian regions - Lombardy, Trentino and the Veneto. Due to its stunning natural beauty and warm climate, the area is a major tourist destination, with many towns and villages scattered around its shore. Limone, or Limone sul Garda, situated on Lake Garda's north-western shore, is centred ... more

Advantages Advantages Great scenery, beautiful towns

Disadvantages Disadvantages All a bit too touristy

We booked a Lake Garda holiday at short notice last September, and found ourselves at the four star Hotel Caesius on the outskirts of Bardolino. It was a nice Hotel and we were given a large suite which made it all the better. If I were to visit the area again I would happily stay there again and definately recommend it to others. The only downside of the Hotel was that it was about 30 minutes walk along the lakeside into Bardolino itself. Not a problem doing it once, but several times a day made it sometimes feel a long way. having said that, the Hotel provided a courtesy bus if you wanted it ... more

    Advantages Advantages ..

    Disadvantages Disadvantages ..

In Bratislava a few months ago I was amazed by how much it reminded me of Italy, and of Lake Garda in particular. When I was working in northern Italy last summer, my last week was spent “on location” if you will at Riva, a large touristy town at the very north end of the lake. I’d already spent a few days at Peschera and Sirmione at the south end of the lake, but this was something new. Riva is located approximately equidistant from Milan and Venice, some 70 meters above sea level. It is called home by nearly 14 000 Italians, but the steady influx of tourists from April to ... more

    Advantages Advantages Fantastic scenery

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be expensive

I visited Italy for the first time in June 2003 and I know that I will go to Riva again. I originally booked the holiday as a couple of my friends were getting married in the northern town of Riva del Garda. I was pleasantly surprised! From the UK there are a lot of airlines who fly near to Riva. The closest airport is Verona which has daily flights by BA but can be expensive. A cheaper option is Alitalia. I flew from East Midlands airport to Bergamo (near Milan) which was less than £90 for a return flight (the earlier you book the cheaper it is) with BMI baby. I needed to arrange my travel to ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent food/drink, stunning views, diverse range of things to do and see

Disadvantages Disadvantages Drivers can sometimes become erratic/aggressive, some places expensive.

I found Lake Garda to be an extremely worthwhile trip. There are some particularly stunning views that would be appreciated by nature lovers, but which need some searching for. Areas in and around the actual lake itself (which is huge!) and around the castle further inland are lovely. Mostly pebble beaches surrounding the lake, with a few sand beaches dotted around the edges. I stayed in a resort on the edge of Lake Garda which was very reasonable. It was possible to rent chalets, apartments, caravans, tents or plots of land which self-owned tents could be pitched on, all for very good prices ... more

Advantages Advantages Good weather in August, great food, lovely people, lots to see and do

Disadvantages Disadvantages It was a bit TOO hot in August

My family and I have been to many different European resorts now, but last year we decided we wanted to go for something away from the norm. After a great amount of debating (most of it revolved around whether or not we'd eat the country's food!)we chose to drive to the small resort of Limone, Lake Garda. After two hard days of driving along many tedious motorways, we finally made it to Limone. Limone is not the easiest resort to drive through - there are many narrow tunnels to fight your way through, and hotels are signposted immediately before you get to them. That said, we had a fantastic ... more

    Advantages Advantages Beautiful, diverse scenery

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive, too hot in high season

I went to Lake Garda last year, and spent a very busy 3 weeks staying at the southern end of the lake. I still feel that I haven't seen half of it, because it's so beautiful and encompasses so many different areas. The lake is long and thin, covering over 30 odd miles, so it is no surprise that the areas along the banks vary in their natural qualities, from the mountains in the north, allowing for winter sports, and fantastic views in the summer time, to the flatter, more lush plains in the south. I stayed near San Felice at the south-west of the lake, and found that this region is absolutely ... more

Advantages Advantages ice cream, location as it is close to many other places

Disadvantages Disadvantages can get pretty expensive

If you want somewhere to go in Italy that has it all, then lake Garda is the place and best of all is the largest of the towns around the edge; Garda itself. This quaint little village is perfect for people of all ages to get away to. The village front is set onto the lake and is lined with little restaurants and cafes. there is seating outside opposite all these places so the spectacular views can be absorbed, of which there are many. from the promanade the opposite side of the lake is clear to see, as is the so called "crocodile" a small penisular with a great resembilance to a sleeping ... more
