**Lake Garda**
Lake Garda is the largest Italian lake and it is in Northern Italy. It is between the regions of Lombardy, the Veneto and Trentino Alto-Adige or about half way between Venice and Milan. The lake is long and slim, the southern part of the lake is quite built-up and has rolling hills where as the northern part of the lake is surrounded by mountains. The scenery at Lake Garda is quite simply, stunning. It is one of the most beautiful ... ...is breathtaking. The clear blue lake and the towering magnificent mountains surrounding it make it feel so untouched and sheltered. The lake is a huge tourist destination and there are some magnificent hotels surrounding it, some of which are very expensive. However you don’t have to spend a huge amount on a fancy hotel to get the feel of what Lake Garda is about and to enjoy it. There are many towns around the lake which are all beautiful and definitely ...

...summer holiday in Limone on Lake Garda.
Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake, is in northern Italy, not far from the city of Verona. It is divided between three Italian regions - Lombardy, Trentino and the Veneto. Due to its stunning natural beauty and warm climate, the area is a major tourist destination, with many towns and villages scattered around its shore. Limone, or Limone sul Garda, situated on Lake Garda's north-western shore, is centred around ... ...with spectacular views of the lake and its stunning mountainous backdrop. The centre and lakefront are popular with tourists (the majority of whom seem to be German or Austrian) who enjoy strolling among the shops, cafes and bars or relaxing on the beach.
~First Impressions~
Upon disembarking from the plane at Verona Airport at about 10 a.m. local time, we were immediately struck by the warm Meditteranean climate - a bit of a contrast to the rainy ...

Advantages: Great scenery, beautiful towns Disadvantages: All a bit too touristy
We booked a Lake Garda holiday at short notice last September, and found ourselves at the four star Hotel Caesius on the outskirts of Bardolino. It was a nice Hotel and we were given a large suite which made it all the better. If I were to visit the area again I would happily stay there again and definately recommend it to others. The only downside of the Hotel was that it was about 30 minutes walk along the lakeside into Bardolino itself. Not a ... ...of the nicest around the lake that we visited. Theres not a huge amount there but theres a good selection of cafes, Trattorias and Ristorantes to suit most tastes and budgets. There's also a great selection of Ice Cream shops with an unbeliveable choice of flavours.
The main pedestrianised street in Bardolino is well worth seeing (apologies for not recalling its name, but if you visit Bardolino, you'll be sure to see it.). The floor is more like ...

...me of Italy, and of Lake Garda in particular. When I was working in northern Italy last summer, my last week was spent “on location” if you will at Riva, a large touristy town at the very north end of the lake. I’d already spent a few days at Peschera and Sirmione at the south end of the lake, but this was something new.
Riva is located approximately equidistant from Milan and Venice, some 70 meters above sea level. It is called ... ...a deep bluey green sparkling lake and a wonderfully colourful waterfront area. Most postcards of Garda Lake in general feature Riva as it’s so gorgeous. Although most people come here for a break to relax after the hustle and bustle of the cities, there are more things to do here than just swim and sunbathe. For example there’s a Reptile Land which was a great hit with the kids I was looking after. Full of pythons, geckos, tarantulas ...

...persuasion.
Travel around the lake can be tiresome. There are plenty of busses but I suggest that you rent a car. Make sure you take note of the signs though as every Wednesday there is a market and if your car is parked in the market area between six in the morning and eleven at night it will get towed and you could be facing a fine of nearly 100 euros. If you think of traveling further a field to Verona or Venice make sure you take the Motorway ... ...to many ports on the lake but the journey is slow and sometimes expensive. Try to book on the catamaran which is quicker.
Food. A typically Italian affair usually with Pasta, Pizza (although not actually Italian), and seafood although I never had a bad meal whilst I was there. If you eating a meal in the Italian way it can be extremely expensive. They have a first, second and main course all the time along with dessert and coffee so if you can afford ...

Advantages: Excellent food/drink, stunning views, diverse range of things to do and see Disadvantages: Drivers can sometimes become erratic/aggressive, some places expensive.
I found Lake Garda to be an extremely worthwhile trip. There are some particularly stunning views that would be appreciated by nature lovers, but which need some searching for. Areas in and around the actual lake itself (which is huge!) and around the castle further inland are lovely. Mostly pebble beaches surrounding the lake, with a few sand beaches dotted around the edges. I didnt use any public transport - I went on holiday with my family and travelled by rented car. There were not any facilities such as childrens clubs on the resort I stayed at, but this probably varies with resort. Most resorts in Lake Garda seem fairly reasonable, I stayed in a ground floor apartment, consisting of 3 rooms - one bedroom with double bed, a bathroom ...

...the small resort of Limone, Lake Garda.
After two hard days of driving along many tedious motorways, we finally made it to Limone. Limone is not the easiest resort to drive through - there are many narrow tunnels to fight your way through, and hotels are signposted immediately before you get to them. That said, we had a fantastic time and I hope that we will go back some day.

Lake Garda is a huge tourist attraction, and there is absolutely loads to see and do. Each of the resorts have their own shops and attractions. We particularly enjoyed Limone because it had a promenade next to the lakeside beaches. Just outside of Riva there is a waterfall called Cascata Varone, which is qutie ...

Advantages: Beautiful, diverse scenery Disadvantages: Expensive, too hot in high season
I went to Lake Garda last year, and spent a very busy 3 weeks staying at the southern end of the lake. I still feel that I haven't seen half of it, because it's so beautiful and encompasses so many different areas. The lake is long and thin, covering over 30 odd miles, so it is no surprise that the areas along the banks vary in their natural qualities, from the mountains in the north, allowing for winter sports, and fantastic views in the summer ... ...in cypress trees, and the lake is so blue and serene (apart from the odd hydrofoil and speed boat!). The main mode of transport around the lake is, sensibly, by water. You can either take a slow boat which can take several hours to reach your destination, or you can opt for spending a little more and getting a hydrofoil. It's scary, yes, but still taking an hour to cross the lake at it's widest point, a necessary evil. Day trips, allowing about half ...

This quaint little village is perfect for people of all ages to get away to.

whilst around the lake though, if you have time a trip right around is advisable, all the little towns are slightly different but have a great charm. it can also get fairly hot in mid summer. it got up to about 92 degrees, however the breeze from the laka can take the edge off.

Advantages: Stunning scenery, great food, wine, German beers! Disadvantages: Chaotic timetables, unexpected closing times, but that's Italy!
...excellent budget holiday and the Lake Garda area was quite stunning, the people friendly and the food (when eating outside the hotel!) excellent – we usually go to the Sorrento/Naples area, so it was quite a surprise that the area was so Alpine, with many German/Swiss people around). A lot of the signs and menus are also in German, which can be quite handy if, like me, your O Grade German is better than your Italian!

I visted Lake Garda a couple of summers ago and must say it was one of the most people places I have ever visited. Lots of people do seem to complain about it being overly touristy but with scenery like this I can certainly see why. Riva was a beautiful town with a pictureque square which was home to many forms of entertainment in the evening. Towards the end of the summer months the town is also home to a themed festival which was based upon the jungle book when I was there.
Due to Riva being the most northern point of the lake the area is surrounded by ...
