Advantages Advantages Garda Town - great location for expliring other areas

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bus between towns - never on time.

Garda is an old town situated on the lake, it has a boat service and a bus service to most of the other towns and villiages on the lake.. The boat service is very reliable and mostly on time, the buses are always late (and I mean late -sometimes upto and hour. On the lake there are opportunities to swim, water-ski, para-sail (being toed behind an speed boat.) and there are lots of places to sunbathe. The town is very picturesque with plenty of opportunties for photographs. It has all the shops you will ever need with some designer ones thrown in. There are a vast number of restaurants which ... more

Advantages Advantages Stunning scenery, great food, wine, German beers!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Chaotic timetables, unexpected closing times, but that's Italy!

First of all, we should say that we had an excellent budget holiday and the Lake Garda area was quite stunning, the people friendly and the food (when eating outside the hotel!) excellent – we usually go to the Sorrento/Naples area, so it was quite a surprise that the area was so Alpine, with many German/Swiss people around). A lot of the signs and menus are also in German, which can be quite handy if, like me, your O Grade German is better than your Italian! We obtained this holiday cheap on teletext from Newmarket Travel about 4 weeks before departing for £260 each (direct flights from ... more

Advantages Advantages Beautiful scenes. Hot weather. Peace. Romance.

Disadvantages Disadvantages When it rains, it doesn't stop!

I have been to Lake Garda twice in my life, I went last year, and again the year before. I have to say, I have never been so inspired in my life. In my view, the views were amazing! There isn't really a better lake in the world for beautiful views. I had never been to Italy but I always wanted to go to the Italian Lakes, I was always told that they were stunning and such a romantic place to visit. When we got our first glimpse of the lake, we were speechless. It's an endless scope of beauty and magnificence. The coach from the airport thundered down small, tight roads to the lake side, into a ... more

    Advantages Advantages beautiful scenery

    Disadvantages Disadvantages can be expensive

We flew to Verona and jumped in a taxi to Lake Garda(30mins drive, cost about £40). We stayed in the Hotel Continental in Sirmione. Sirmione is a beautiful old town which you have to enter through the castle. There is a few shops and restaurants and lots of snack bars selling pizza and icecream. The old part of town is mainly pedestrianised. From the dock you can get a boat to just about anywhere around the lake. The boats are fairly cheap and very efficient. The scenery around the lake varies tremendously. In the south, it is very green and flat and the north of the lake is surrounded by ... more

Advantages Advantages beautiful scenery, nice ice cream

    Disadvantages Disadvantages pricey

I visted Lake Garda a couple of summers ago and must say it was one of the most people places I have ever visited. Lots of people do seem to complain about it being overly touristy but with scenery like this I can certainly see why. Although it is an extremely popular holiday destination and there are a few touristy gift shops about I still would not say that Lake Garda was too touristy. When I visited I stayed in the largest resort of Riva del Garda a wonderful little town at the north of the lake. Lake Garda has plenty to do with lots of little cafes and restaurants. It is also in walking ... more

Advantages Advantages amazing scenery, awesome watersports!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages little to none

Having only visited it once to compete in a sailing world championships my view may be a little blinkered. But i must say, i dont think i have ever had a greater sailing experience in my life. The winds were fantastic. Almost dead on 1p.m. every afternoon, the wind would come in from down the lake, from what was almost nothing the beautiful sailing conditions. The scenery is absolutely amazing, sailing with high mountains all around you and right under large cliff faces. When i first jumped in the water, i couldn't believe how cold it was, but for some bizarre reason, the longer i stayed the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Everything

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None!

This summer I went on a holiday to Lake Garda. I expected a small lake covered in trees. I was wrong. I reached the shore and immediately found myself staring at a vast expanse of water. It was a brilliant sight. The water is clean, I went swimming in it. The beach dips gently into the water. It was warmer than the Camping San Francesco swimming pool! The only piece of advice I can give is to wear sandals or shoes in the water - there are a lot of big rocks! Prepare to do the following: * Jump off the pier * Go Swimming * Snorkel * Hire a pedalo for £5 per hour or £8 for 2 hours! ... more

    Advantages Advantages very pretty

Disadvantages Disadvantages not much to do

i went to lake garda as part of a trip, now most people would think that 'young people' dont appreciate scenery but with this place its hard not to, its stunning simply stunning! i took so many pictures of the mountains and the water on a beautifully sunny day. its one of those places you have dream't about but never thought exixsted. i had so much fun, and the people are lovely, i went as part of a school trip so i revised a bit of italian before i went and they were really aprreciative of my effort to learn their language. there isnt much to do thought which wasn't very good for me as im ... more
