A Snowy Paradise

Advantages: Great Skiing, amazing scenery and amazing snow
Disadvantages: Not such a great resort for Apres Ski

...from Lastminute.com we opted for Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies. The opinion is that the Canada is one of, if not the best place in the world to go skiing and that coupled with the price and a spot of internet research prompted us to head for the small hamlet of Lake Louise, hidden deep within the Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. The Hamlet of Lake Louise is located at the side of the Trans Canadian Highway, about an hour from the bigger ...
...at Calgary. The journey to Lake Louise alone would have made the trip, travelling out of Calgary past the Olympic site, across the Canadian Plains before hitting the foothills and the majestic mountains of the Canadian Rockies. The scenery and drive into Lake Louise is absolutely stunning and with a constant snow covering in the winter, it makes it look even more stunning. Unlike the European resorts, Lake Louise isn't a ski in and ski out resort ...

Skiing heaven.

Advantages: Great holiday
Disadvantages: none

...areas I have ever visited Lake Louise, in the Canadian Rockies. Lake Louise is a 2 hour drive from Calgary (direct, but very long flights available from Heathrow) the countryside on the journey goes from mildly interesting, seeing the Calgary ski jump where Eddie the Eagle made his winter Olympic name, to the beautiful Canadian countryside with a small river flowing through a wilderness of snow. To the completely spectacular as you driver further ...
...of which are linked to Lake Louise by free shuttle buses and a ‘tri-area’ lift pass is available to cover all three. Then finally a further short bus ride away, you reach Lake Louise itself. The village of Lake Louise is very small, with hardly any buildings at all, but by far the most imposing of them all is the Chateau Lake Louise, which is a huge hotel, built on the edge of the Lake. Accommodation ************* Accommodation in the village ranges ...

Lake Louise - A beginners perspective

Advantages: so many
Disadvantages: none

Skiing at Lake Louise was such an amazing experience for me. I went for a week at the very end of the season this year and it was the best snow I have ever seen! This was only my second time skiing (the first was France at christmas) and has helped boost my confidence so much. The runs are very wide and there are some great long runs for beginners. From every lift there is a green run which meant i could spend a lot more time with the rest of my ...
...forest. My experience at Lake Louise has completely built up my confidence, and I just can't wait to get out on the pistes again. It was a fantastic week and I would love to go back there as soon as I can afford to. Obviously it is a bit more costly than Europe but in my humble opinion was completely worth it! The food on the slopes was reasonably priced, better than expected and a good choice of sandwhiches, salads and hot foods. One place I ...

Best family resort I've been to!

Advantages: Great Hospitality
Disadvantages: transport to pistes required

I am a keen skiier and had been to Europe many times before we decided to try Canada. You get all the the advantages of skiing in Canada, great snow all season, friendly instructors, free guides (ski pals). The skiing area is large, and there are plenty of pistes to keep you occupied for over a week, not as many Blacks or Double-Blacks as nearby Sunshine Village, but plenty of below tree-line runs for all except the Expert skiiers. The lifts are ...
...by friendly staff, there are many places for lunch time breaks, whether you want to grab a quick burger, or have a full meal and a few drinks. The resort itself offers many Apres-Ski activities from Hot-Spring Baths, to Ice-Skating, and Dog Sledding. There is a noticable lack of Bars, and i didn't see any clubs so definately a good resort for Families. Free buses run from all hotels to transport people to the pistes every morning and back every ...
