Advantages: proximity to Grand Canyon Disadvantages: noise of slot machines and ferocious heat
We had never really fancied Las Vegas as a holiday destination but last year when we were planning our route for travelling from the UK to Australia we discovered that we could travel out via the States and back via the Far East (going west all the time minimised jet lag too). We decided to spend a few days in LV thereby enabling us to take in the Grand Canyon which we had always wanted to see. Although the bright lights and sound of the slot machines ... ...wandering around the hotels produced some amazing sights - the Sphinx,white tigers, dancing fountains - to name but a few. It was cheap to eat and our hotel (the MGM) even had its own theme park which kept the kids amused. Our big moan was that even in shede temperatures of 106 there were no sun umbrellas at the poolside - presumably the hotel would rather have you indoors gambling than outdoors! ...

Review of Las Vegas
Advantages: Losts of arcades and casinos Disadvantages: Too hot and too crowded
Las Vegas is ok. Unless you are a hardcroe gambler then dont bother. I went there in July-August as well as the grand canyon,san diego,la and chicago. The hotel we stayed at (Circus Circus) wasnt brilliant but even with great hotel I wouldnt have enjoyed it any more. Advantages: Lots of casinos Disadvantages: Too expensive
When you first visit Las Vegas it's like entering another world, especially if you like to gamble. All the casinos are free and open 24 hours a day!! The usual games are avaliable- roulette, poker, one-armed bandits and blabckjack. Although there are lots of casinos, I went to the MGM Grand which is now more like a theme park in Florida than just a casino. Advantages: Inexpensive hotels with lots of things to do. Disadvantages: The heat, the "ding ding" of the slot machines.
Nearly all the hotels in Las Vegas can be described as extravagant. Huge amounts of money are pumped into them and this be seen when you go to them. When you looks at the hotels from the outside the are splendid. For instance, Luxor has a pyramid, Paris has an Eiffel Tower, New York New York has its skyline and Statue of Liberty and The Venetian has gondolas. Treasure Island even has its own Pirate Show for passers-by along the Strip.
The hotels ... ...take up a lot of space. When you go into the casino you'll eventually get used to the annonying "ding ding" sounds of the slot machines. If you think the only thing to do is gamble, you'd be wrong. There are plenty of other attractions: swimming pools, IMAX 3D theatres, cinemas, water parks, video games rooms, shops, theme-parks, concerts, magic shows and musicals - enough to keep anyone occupied.

...Kids love Castles. Being in Las Vegas it was the nearest we could get to one.
Also being on the strip we were surrounded by the Mandalay Bay, The Luxor, New York New York And The MGM Grand so it was ideal.
There was a bus stop outside it where buses would take you up and down the strip. This was ideal in temperatures that were in the 90s.
A monorail just outside Excalibur connects with the Mandalay Bay and Luxor.
Remember that they dont allow ... ...and asked to return then.
They also have two queues for their main desk. You dont actually notice this as you can only see one queue when you join it. The second queue entrance is hidden.
My tip would be to go past the first queue and just queue where the second queue starts in the middle area in front of the check in desks.
Check that if you have children they are booked in the same room as you. My 12 year old was not. They had a reservation ...
Advantages: Stunning scenery and superb guide Disadvantages: Hot
I holidayed in Las Vegas recently. I stayed at the Riviera hotel which was the first hotel built on the strip. It is a lot cheaper than most of the newer bigger hotels on the strip, but is still a good, comfortable hotel. Whilst we were there we visited the Grand Canyon. We took a helicopter trip from Vegas, see www.helipcoptour.com, and landed at the foot of the canyon. Seeing really is believing, its stunning !

Well, what can anyone say about this legendary town? It truly deserves all the hype that it gets from anyone who has ever been there, and all the glitz and glamour that it is portrayed with on the big screen. Just coming in to the airport is an experience in itself and seeing the strip for the first time gets the heckles up and starts the heart pumping and the adrenaline flowing for gamblers and non-gamblers alike. It must be said that the place ... ...of buffets - any cheap ones are cheap for a reason, and that reason is lack of quality which becomes evident very quickly. However the place is an experience and whether you go for a couple of days or months you can never be bored or out of things to visit or do. ...

Okay, you're in Las Vegas, NV. You don't want to just gamble all your money away - it would be nice to bring a few things back home, so that the casinos don't take all your money from your wallet. Advantages: 24-hour fun Disadvantages: You may run out of time to see everything
I first went to Vegas in September 2001, on a holiday where we had booked 3 days in Vegas followed by a week in Miami. I was really looking forward to it and thought that 3 days would be plenty of time, if not even too much time, to see everything on offer in Vegas. After all, it's only a city right? Wrong!
We arrived at 10.30 at night after travelling from the UK for about 24 hours (we caught two flights, one to Atlanta then Atlanta to Vegas with ... ...direct). We were understandably knackered and crashed out as soon as we'd checked into our hotel, the Sahara, at the North End of the strip. Jet lag had us up at 4.30 the following morning so we went looking for food and discovered the breakfast buffet at Circus Circus, only $6 each (plus the 7% sales tax that is added to everything in the US). If you've never been to the US, you would not believe how much food is available and being typical brits ...

Just got back from Vegas and what a fantastic time. Stayed at the Monte Carlo, and had non-stop entertainment. The hotels are amazing, takes a full day to walk the strip and check out each hotel. My favorite was Paris. Went up the Eiffel tower on a hot, windy night and the lights are amazing from up there. Actually did well on the gambling end too. Went to Vegas with $1000, and came back with $1040 (after paying outrageous prices for food, drinks, ...

Did you know you can fly to vegas for about £280 yet fly to Los Angeles for £180!!! thats right and when there are 4 of you that is a saving of £400!!! We are going to Vegas in October and will be doing this Its only a 4 hour drive which is nothing on an American freeway. Saving some money for losing on the roulette wheels. I stayed in Las Vegas for only 2 nights but for that short period of time I realised it was a great place and i can't wait to go back there. I was 17 when I went, so i couldn't gamble any money, but i didn't feel like I missed out because there is so much to do.
We stayed in the Flamingo Hotel, which is in the moddle of the strip. I would definately recommend this hotel as the staff were great, really friendly and helpful and the facilities were ... ...cost of our trip to Las Vegas. However all who went said it was an experience they will never forget travelling in a small plane and boat ride along the canyon. Higly recommended from my family.
Overall, this was an expensive part of our holiday, but one the highlights. Despite the heat, I really enjoyed my time here and cannot wait to revisit. I recommend this to couples, families, singles, anybody as there is something for everyone, if at times ...

My wife and I visited Vegas twice, with 3 years apart. It seemed like 20. So much had been done in a short time. New hotels, new streets even. New york, New york, had been built in that time. We had a wonderful time on both occasions. The hotel themes are so fasanating, you can watch them for hours. The volcano was our favourite.
It is safe too, you can walk the srip without hassle, and visit each hotel, we did it many times. There is also an underground ... ...there, we saw tammy wynett at the Hilton. We also met her after the show, playing the slots. We shook hands and exchanged pleasentries. Sadly of course she died of cancer sometime ago. For those who have never been, you must, it is impossible for one not to enjoy Vegas. Its gawdy, tacky, bright, lively, and lovely. The hotels are cheap, eating and drinking is cheap, but it can be expensive to get there. Virgin is the only direct carrier to my knowledge.

...never thought of holidaying in Las Vegas until my husband's friend won a contest for a week's holiday there. My husband was lucky enough to go on the trip with him. When they came back, my husband was determined to take me there. He said, "You just have to see it to believe it."
So, after looking through countless brochures and trawling the web, we settled on Harrah's Hotel. It wasn't one of the more themed ones, but it was in the centre of the ... ...book them once you're in Las Vegas.
The food was very reasonable and had excellent portions, a lot cheaper than London. We didn't have the buffets every night, you could still get reasonably priced a la carte meals.
If you have time, go to the secret garden at the Miramar, to see dolphins and tigers from the magic show. The dolphins were amazing, and the water was so clean!
The statosphere tower is also a must if you don't suffer from vertigo! ...
