Le Meridien Apollo, surrounded by canals and set in a peaceful part of town. It was exactly what we needed after a long day travelling. We went to the desk and were greeted by the friendliest of staff. We stayed in smoking room, but it didn't have that smell you get in other hotels. I sat down exhausted and looked up at the TV. ... ...This is a bit cool, I thought, then I found I could access the internet via an infrared keyboard, check my bill and do all the other things normally associated with a hotel TV system.
My brother and I went out for a walk, had some grub and saw some of the sights that evening. We arrived back early and there was a pair of slippers beside each of our beds, a mint on the pillow, the corner of the sheet pulled back and a notice telling us what the weather ...

Advantages: Luxurious surroundings, clean room, excellent service, good value. Disadvantages: A bit of a distance from the centre but trams were quick and frequent.

When we went for a weekend in Amsterdam with another couple we got a great deal for two standard rooms at this hotel via Expedia. Situated at the junction of several canals in a quiet neighbourhood, the place is pretty much surrounded by water so all the views were lovely and there's a really serene atmosphere. From the exterior, the hotel looks slightly ... ...there's a fantastic koi pond outside the front door, all set in a sort of rockery hillock which you can walk through and around. As soon as we walked in to the attractive lobby it felt opulent, with beautiful floral displays everywhere. The staff were great and the service impeccable.
