A City with a Beach

Advantages: Good touring base, plenty to do
Disadvantages: Busy town with heavy traffic

...about 4 to 5 hours. Limassol is on the south coast and is a more or less equal distance (about 40 miles) from each of these airports, a little under an hour by car from either. Most people seem to take package holidays here, inclusive of flight and accommodation. I could see why this is when I booked my flight from Bristol to Larnaka, as the cost of the return flights I looked at was often equal to or greater than the cost of a package. I already ...
...was told a taxi to Limassol would cost about £40 each way for up to 4 people from either Larnaka or Pafos airports and can be pre-booked from the UK online. Our hire car cost about £15 per day for a largish Toyota with air conditioning but it's possible to hire a small car for a week for very little more than the cost of a return airport taxi. ◄ Getting Your Bearings ► I was surprised by the size of Limassol. It's a big, sprawling town ...

A Last Minute Deal

Advantages: It is a good place to travel to other areas of Cyprus
Disadvantages: There is no real focal point to Limassol itself

...only recognised by turkey itself. Limassol does owe a great deal to its volatile history, especially as it has thrived as a tourist destination since the now Turkish Famagusta, one of the most important tourist destinations in Cyprus before the divide, is no longer accessible to holiday makers. The town itself is 25km long and stretches back 4km from the shoreline. This leaves the town with no real centre. There is an old town which has many shops ...

We chose not to visit: the Sea Sponge Exhibition (situated in an old carob warehouse and displaying different types of sea sponge); the Time Elevator (a trip through Cyprus' history that costs CY£7 for adults and CY£5 for children); Limassol Castle (13th century castle standing on the ...

limassol

Advantages: none

==introduction== limassol is an interesting place to visit. It is located in the republic of Cyprus and it is arguably the best coastal area in Europe. Well at least I think it is amongst them anyway. ==getting there== After a four hour air flight from one of London's Airport's to get to one of Cyprus Arrival lounges, getting to limassol is around thirty minutes to an hour travelling time via taxi or rented car. ==things to do== The coastal area ...
...beer. Getting around limassol is difficult if using public transport as there are a few Bus Routes that are difficult to find for tourists. Hiring a Mercedes Taxi is expensive as the cost of getting from one part of limassol to another costs around ten euros. So in terms of a day out where there are no trains or reliable Bus Services the best advice is to book accomodation in the tourist area and have all the facilities and amenities nearby. I also ...

Limassol

Advantages: Great base for visiting the tourist sites. Has a fantastic waterpark
Disadvantages: Not really a disadvantage but more like a city in parts than an actual tourist resort

Although I'd been through Limassol the last couple of times I visited Cyprus I'd never stayed there for a holiday. I have to be honest and say that it doesn't really compare with the beauty of Paphos or Protaras but I liked it anyway. Limassol (called Lemessos by the Cypriots) is the second largest town in Cyprus so, although there are a lot of nice bars, clubs and restaurants for the tourist it is principally a big, busy town with a large fishing ...
...cruises round the coast of Limassol while you eat your buffet dinner in the lower decks. After that you go to the upper decks and are entertained by Anastassias, a singer who has appeared in the Eurovision Song Contest. He’s very good in a cheesy kind of way and looks a bit like Freddy Star but he really knows how to get the crowd going. Later on in the evening 2 Cypriot traditional dancers appear and get everybody up on the floor to have a ...

...conveinently at Fassouri just outside Limassol with a bus service every day. Beautiful walks maybe your thing and Cyprus has the mountains and the coastal walks that make you wish you could walk forever. There are some very handy walking guides which you should find in your hotel or in one of the tourist offices. Things you should see in Cyprus. ...try it. Back into Limassol and one of the most reasonable priced resturants is Rebeccas. It is popular for the atmosphere, good food and excellant portions. Oh and the owner is just a little bit on the crazy side but it is all in good fun :)) There are litterally thousands of eating places in Cyprus from Cafe Bars to Psterias's (cyriot takeaways) I could tell you about Tara la Mare where the main course price includes a starter, buffet second course ...

The Brit's choice

Advantages: Everyone speaks English
Disadvantages: Karaoke has just taken off!!

Limassol is both an area and a town in the south of Cyprus. The town of Limassol is an interesting mix of old Cypriot culture meeting modern Western desires. I realised this as I looked out from the balcony of the hotel only to be greeted by the famous golden arches of McDonald’s. This gave me a good indication of what to expect when going out for a meal each night. The hotel I stayed in was to the east of the town. There are three superb ...
...skirt!! The side of Limassol that I saw is receiving a lot of development at the moment. There are plenty of road works along the coastal road. This indicates that in years to come there will be more than just the three hotels side by side. Limassol is an ideal location to visit if you don’t want to get submerged in Cypriot culture. There is a good deal to remind you of home. In fact there is more than enough to remind you that Greek is the ...

...out baby equipment in the Limassol tourist area, which was great. We hired a travel cot which arrived in a bag and was set up in just a few minutes by the english staff who delivered it. We also got an extra padded mattress, a fitted bottom sheet, a top sheet and a lovely baby blanket. They don't provide pillows. Everything looked brand new and was spotlessly clean. At the end of the holiday the staff made arrangements to come and collect the cot and high chair, dismantled and packed the cot away into the bag, returned our deposit (they have a great way of taking the deposit from us local residents) and away they went. We would certainly use their ...

An introduction to the marvel of Limassol

Advantages: something for all the family
Disadvantages: about an hour from larnaca/paphos airports

Limassol is a place I have travelled to with family and friends for the last 5/6 years. My parents have a holiday home there which is in the heart of Limassol approximately 300 metres from the tourist beach. Cyprus as a whole country is full of very friendly people who love the English. Most Cypriots will speak English but if you try any Greek they will fall over themselves with appreciation for your efforts! (See below for some useful words!). ...
...the Old town part of Limassol which is very traditional and full of markets and little shops where you can pick up fantastic oil based paintings at very good prices. The tourist beach is very clean and you can hire sunbeds and parasols for around £1.50. (The cypriot currency is cypriot pounds). On the official tourist beach which is by Dasoudi wood you will find (as the name suggests!) many trees and therefore you can find your own shade for free! ...

...colony in the past. Limassol is known in Cyprus as the main city of entertainment, of night life, of culture and generally of everything. The relations with foreigners who come through the port, made the citizens very kind persons and easy approachable. Limassol citizens enjoy a lot the good food, the quality in entertainment and that's why wherever you go, you'll find a pleasure atmosphere either this is a restaurant or a club or even just a shop. ...

Limassol 'in a nutshell'

Advantages: Something to suit everyone
Disadvantages: Beaches are few and far between

The resort of Limassol stretches over a distance of several miles and therefore unless you are an active walker/jogger you are unlikely to see all that this resort offers. During my fortnight I stayed in the 'middle' section which bustles with bars, restaurants and clubs. You are certainly spoilt for choice with a wide range of eateries to choose from, -anything from pizza and burger bars to chinese, mexican and of course the traditional greek restaurants. ...
...'meze' which is normally only served for a minimum of 2 people. It is a meal that is made up of anything between 11-17 traditional greek dishes, ranging from cheeses, salads, dips and meats. Expect to pay anything between £8-£15.00 per person, and certainly anticipate rolling home afterwards! Another recommendation are a couple of restaurants that entertain each night with their resident greek dancers. This provides a lot of 'heel-slapping' fun and ...

Limassol - something for everyone

Advantages: Good choice of 4 and 5 star hotels, excellent facilites, excellent transport system, good base
Disadvantages: If you prefer a typical package holiday resort this may not be for you

Limassol tourism over the last few years has reduced and hotels that once were are now being developed into luxiry apartment blocks on the seafront. Limassol has something for everyone, 5 star hotels, family hotels and a few self catering apartments. They have really improved the beaches here (some now blue flag beaches) and the facilites on the beaches so great for the sun worshippers and families. Limassol probably has some of the best restaurants ...
...area, this is where the Limassol castle is located and there are some fine restaurants and trendy or chilled out bars along here, plus during the day you can shop around the Old Town where you'll find some interesting artisan shops and local goods. There are plans to build a large marina in Limassol, although already one located at the St Raphael hotel, and this will surely increase tourism. I do feel Limassol is very underated as a tourist resort, ...

Advantages: Something for everyone

...run away! As for Limassol it is a lovely city with something for everyone. Cruise to Egypt, shopping, restaraunts, bars, nightclubs......you name it its got it. Best of everything!

Advantages: Old part of town, by beach, lots of resturants and bars, shops
Disadvantages: None

I went to stay in Limassol in 1999 for 2 weeks with my dad, and had a fantastic time.. I think Limassol has the best of everything, it is by the coast and has some nice beaches, and there is also night life for anyone that wants it situated in one area of Limassol. The old town is nice with shops down side streets. Limassol is a good place to stay in and you can easily get to other parts of Cyprus either by hire car (which I strongly reccomend) ...
...(but we didn't!) The capital Nicosia is great for shopping, and you really need a car to get there from Limassol, and you are able to view the other side of cyprus over the wall at the end of the street. The Troodos Mountains are a great place to escape the heat from and view the landscape. There are the odd gift shop and cafe. I strongly advise that if you plan on a visit to the mountains then hire a car. There are some nice villages in the mountains ...

Egypt By Air

Advantages: Pyramids, Sphinx
Disadvantages: Heat, Market Traders, Beggars

...night last minute deal to Limassol ( we travelled there in July 2005) we decided that we would do the 1 day trip to Egypt by Air, there was another option of 3 day cruise but due to the short time frame we opted for the 1 day air trip. This day was fantastic - long and tiring but fantastic. We purchased the trip via our holiday rep (Direct Holidays) and it cost us 195 CY£ each, i suppose you could get it cheaper via a tour shop but we wanted the ...

We saw the three pyramids, in total there are approximately 100 pyramids in Egypt, but we visited the main ones, thus being the pyramid ...
