Advantages Advantages Good touring base, plenty to do

Disadvantages Disadvantages Busy town with heavy traffic

In late October/early November 2007 I took my first holiday in Cyprus, a fairly large island at the far eastern end of the Mediterranean, close to the coasts of Turkey and Syria. I stayed in Limassol, also known by its Greek name of Lemesos, the second biggest city in Cyprus after the capital, Nicosia. ◄ Getting There ► There are flights to Cyprus from most of the major UK airports, either to Pafos airport in the south west of the island or Larnaka in the south east, taking about 4 to 5 hours. Limassol is on the south coast and is a more or less equal distance (about 40 miles) from ... more

Advantages Advantages It is a good place to travel to other areas of Cyprus

Disadvantages Disadvantages There is no real focal point to Limassol itself

Limassol, also known as Lemesos, is the capital of the largest Cypriate municipality to which it gives its name. The island's second largest town was, and is, traditionally a major port, and has been since the British occupied Cyprus in 1878 - with the first hotels beginning to operate in the area not long after. Cyprus has had a long history of occupations and disputes over the island's ownership. The most recent of which led to the division of Cyprus in 1974 and created the Greek republic of Cyprus and the Turkish republic of northern Cyprus - the second of which is only recognised by turkey ... more

introduction limassol is an interesting place to visit. It is located in the republic of Cyprus and it is arguably the best coastal area in Europe. Well at least I think it is amongst them anyway. getting there After a four hour air flight from one of London's Airport's to get to one of Cyprus Arrival lounges, getting to limassol is around thirty minutes to an hour travelling time via taxi or rented car. things to do The coastal area spans around twelve kilometers which makes swimming and sunbathing relatively easy to find a place to sit down and enjoy the sun. Also at certain areas of the ... more

Advantages Advantages Great base for visiting the tourist sites. Has a fantastic waterpark

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not really a disadvantage but more like a city in parts than an actual tourist resort

Although I'd been through Limassol the last couple of times I visited Cyprus I'd never stayed there for a holiday. I have to be honest and say that it doesn't really compare with the beauty of Paphos or Protaras but I liked it anyway. Limassol (called Lemessos by the Cypriots) is the second largest town in Cyprus so, although there are a lot of nice bars, clubs and restaurants for the tourist it is principally a big, busy town with a large fishing docks where you can board luxury liners for short breaks to Egypt, Israel, and the Lebanon at very reasonable prices. Colin and I had decided that ... more

Advantages Advantages Central Location, beaches, good night life, tradition, good resturants

Disadvantages Disadvantages 52 days of rain

Limassol, the 2nd largest city in Cyprus and by far the most cosmipolitan. This area of Cyprus has just about everything you need to enjoy a few weeks of rest and recuperation. From local tavernas run by Mom & Pop to 5* resturants and nightclubs. Whatever your heart desires you will find in Limassol. There are some beautiful cove beaches where you can hire a sunbed & umbrella for about £2.50 cyp a day and be served frappe's at the waters edge while you laze in one of the 300 days of sunshine the island is bathed in. If you wish to be more physical on your holiday, why not try one of the water ... more

    Advantages Advantages Everyone speaks English

Disadvantages Disadvantages Karaoke has just taken off!!

Limassol is both an area and a town in the south of Cyprus. The town of Limassol is an interesting mix of old Cypriot culture meeting modern Western desires. I realised this as I looked out from the balcony of the hotel only to be greeted by the famous golden arches of McDonald’s. This gave me a good indication of what to expect when going out for a meal each night. The hotel I stayed in was to the east of the town. There are three superb hotels, The Amathus, The Mediterranean and The Four Seasons, side by side. Small supermarkets, bars and restaurants line the coastal road that links ... more

Advantages Advantages friendly service, local company, great idea for tourists with babies and cyprus residents

Disadvantages Disadvantages they only work in limassol

We found a really helpful company just recently when family came for their holidays to Limassol. We had our grandson coming to visit and needed a travel cot and a high chair. A search on a local website pointed us in the direction of Cyprus with Babies! They hire out baby equipment in the Limassol tourist area, which was great. We hired a travel cot which arrived in a bag and was set up in just a few minutes by the english staff who delivered it. We also got an extra padded mattress, a fitted bottom sheet, a top sheet and a lovely baby blanket. They don't provide pillows. Everything looked ... more

Advantages Advantages something for all the family

Disadvantages Disadvantages about an hour from larnaca/paphos airports

Limassol is a place I have travelled to with family and friends for the last 5/6 years. My parents have a holiday home there which is in the heart of Limassol approximately 300 metres from the tourist beach. Cyprus as a whole country is full of very friendly people who love the English. Most Cypriots will speak English but if you try any Greek they will fall over themselves with appreciation for your efforts! (See below for some useful words!). Limassol is pretty much guaranteed to have hot sun for most parts of the year with August best to be avoided as can get too hot to go out and very ... more

Limassol, (or "Λεμεσός" - LemesOs - in greek), with about 170.000 habitats, is the second largest city (sea side) of Cyprus, a big island in Mediterranean Sea, Europe. Unfortunately, Cyprus is divided since 1974 because of Turkish invasion. Never mind. Limassol, with its big port is nowadays a main trader in Europe and Middle East of local exports/imports. And Cyprus is well known for many food products mainly such us potato, grapes and more. It is a historic city from Byzantine years and probably before. There are many archaeological areas in Limassol, for ... more

Advantages Advantages Something to suit everyone

Disadvantages Disadvantages Beaches are few and far between

The resort of Limassol stretches over a distance of several miles and therefore unless you are an active walker/jogger you are unlikely to see all that this resort offers. During my fortnight I stayed in the 'middle' section which bustles with bars, restaurants and clubs. You are certainly spoilt for choice with a wide range of eateries to choose from, -anything from pizza and burger bars to chinese, mexican and of course the traditional greek restaurants. I highly recommend for you to try a traditional 'meze' which is normally only served for a minimum of 2 people. It is a meal that is made ... more
