This is the first in what will be a series of city reviews, when I get around writing the others that is !!
I could quite easily go on about my home city all day long..... A city, which for reasons beyond it's own control, has received a very bad press for far too long. I have lived and worked away from the city now for over 10 years, and can say with absolute certainty that there are many worse places ... ...2 Cathedrals, 2 Universities
Liverpool .... I love the place, I love the people (well, most of them anyway), I love the fresh sea air, the humour, the art, the football, the heritage, the history, the music, the culture ... It's got it all, but unfortunately suffered a massive industrial decline in the 80's, leading to mass unemployment and large scale economic and social decay, from which the city has only - in the last 3-4 years - really started ...

...just come to study here, Liverpool will always hold a special place in your heart. Liverpool is one of those deceptively small cities that squeeze in so much - culture, entertainment, sports, religion… There is nothing that Liverpool does not have to offer. CULTURE: Liverpool has several theatres - The Empire (the largest and arguably the best), The Playhouse at Williamson Square, The Neptune on Hanover Street, The Unity Theatre, the Royal Court, ... ...well as the slave trade); Liverpool Museum (the largest of the local museums, incorporating archaeology and sciences); and the Walker Art Gallery (the ideal place for art lovers). Advantages: Lots to see and do very friendly Disadvantages: Wanted to stay longer
...princess in the city of Liverpool . I have been home for two days now, the hangover and tiredness is on it's way out, but the memories will remain forever, so I would like to share with you the delights of wonderful Liverpool. This is not going to read like something out the tourist board office but my experience of what I saw and got up to there. (well, almost everything, a real lady would never tell you everything ;-)
I found Liverpool to be the ... ...and lots of maritime history. Liverpool is steeped in History and boasts some fabulous buildings including St George's hall, The Liver building, Two cathedrals and loads more. Check out this site that belongs to the Liverpool Echo and leaves no stone unturned when suggesting what you can do with your time in the city and a whole lot more.

Advantages: Full of things to do Disadvantages: The stereotypes connected to the city
...would write a guide to Liverpool seeming as I originate from The Wirral which is just "over the water" and I also now live in Ormskirk which is just ten minutes drive from this busy city. My Liverpudlian friends refer to me as either a Plastic scouser(when in Wirral) or a wooly Back (when in Ormskirk!)- oh the scouse humour!
I am willing to bet that when you first read that this op is about Liverpool you thought one of three things about the city.

yep, Liverpool has many stereo types but it really isn't a bad place. I have been spending my saturday nights in Liverpool for ages now because it has such a good atmosphere. I love the fact that everyone is really friendley and just out for a good time at the weekends. If your like me and you like to unwind at the weekends and have a good night out then you won't be disappointed with the Liverpool night life.

Liverpool has a reputation as one of the most energetic student cities in Europe. It’s alive with music, spot, shopping and nightlife.
Higher Education plays a key role in the life of the city and the people of Liverpool are proud of their University and that is why when you arrive, you soon become part of the community, which is known for it’s friendliness and wit.

...at the door, a kind Liverpool lad offered to usher them thru conga style so they could avert their eyes. Mel caught Jules sneaking a peek now and then, tut! The same happy chappy was there when they came back out ready to take them back though, unfortunately Mel seemed to have an over happy chappy behind her bringing up the rear of the conga. After he pinched her butt twice she gave him "The stare", to which he replied, ‘Ey ey, calm down.’
... ...later…after a scenic tour of Liverpool by night. The lads were all there… apart from the handsome toned one in the red top who had inspired my enthusiasm for this soiree… Mel and I continued to drink the FREE vodka (Absolut), while Jules once again sat there, ladylike, making polite conversation, while the young men wondered what underwear she was wearing, if their lusty looks were anything to go by.

Advantages: A superb City Disadvantages: difficult to leave, you have to return
...which of course is what liverpool sells itself on today...its Tourism comes mostly from the hundreds of thousands toursists who visit the City each year..
In this Op I talk from my own childhood perspective and reflect and rely on it greatly, for although I wasn't born in Liverpool I was brought up there from 1956 to 1966, and lived and went to School in Crosby and Childwall(over a shop)....this is a walk down memory lane, where life as we saw it ... ...kid, (I suppose) I saw Liverpool in all its grandeur ( well almost) its seafaring community was just starting to lose work, docks were just beginning to close, and Camelairds across the water were just begining to lose ship building orders and redundancies were on the cards..but the City of Liverpool was built around the sea, it was its life blood, and anyone respectable was connected to the sea or had an uncle or distant relative who was a sailor.. ...

...up (mainly) and lived in Liverpool until I was 20. Then, when fate, dealt me different cards I moved to Cheshire, but recently due to a change in career I've had to come back to Liverpool to study some more. While not living there, I'm in Liverpool on a daily basis and I can offer a comment through the eyes of a 'resident' and not a tourist. I'm not going to comment on the shops, but more the people that inhabit the area on a daily basis such as ... ...Issue sellers have been in Liverpool for years now and I appreciate that they have to be able to find legitimate means of getting money, and if they were doing this I wouldn't have a problem, but they have started resorting to a different tactic recently. They stand around looking pretty disinterested and asking for "money to help the homeless" rather than trying to sell the magazine. If you should try and buy a magazine, they'll try the hardest ...

Advantages: TO Many to List Disadvantages: The Weather
Liverpool is, was and always will be a great city Full of life.
If you just want a day out, you will not have the time to take in all that Liverpool has to offer.
TOP Shops, Designer Cloths, Clubs, Restaurants, Hotels and if your really thirsty, you don't have to look far for a good Pint in one of Liverpools Pubs.
You could spend a week going round visiting all the Parks, and another couple of weeks to find your way around the Walker Art Gallery, ... ...to Industry.
The people of Liverpool are mostly courtious, helpfull and above all have the best sense of Humour in the World, well look at some of their Famous sons, from Arthur Askey to Tom O'Conner( there are to many to list here).
Then theres Sport: Football being the most talked about, people go from far and wide to see L.F.C. and E.F.C. on a Saturday, and you will be spoilt for choice on Sunday, if you want to watch some Amatuer Football in ...

Liverpool has a huge ammount to offer visitors (as is shown in the figures that Liverpool is the 3rd most visited place in England, after London and Blackpool) and is despite what alot of people think a very friendly city to visit.
If you are thinking of visiting somewhere, where better than the home of "The most famous band in the world" The Beatles and their "world famous" museum, Two of the most famous and successful ... ...the sites and sounds of Liverpool and you could not find a more friendly and helpful person than a scouser, who`ll stop and help anyone out.
And despite what you are always hearing in the media, Liverpool is in fact one of the Safest Cities in England regarding personal crime (and there are figures to prove this).
Despite this we are constantly being slaughtered and bad-mouthed by media and people that have never even been here or have a total ...

...live only 15 miles from Liverpool and never use their ferries, subways or stores! So when my parents suggested a day out on the Liverpool ferries I was not overly enthusiastic - hardly New York!
Boy was I wrong. We parked at a local train station that was within Merseyside. This was apparently important. My parents have both recently reached the age when travel is free within Merseyside and they are now experts at where you can and can't go and ... ...ticket - this means free travel on all trains, buses and ferries in the Merseyside area (and Merseyside is a big area). Two adults Saver tickets cost just £5.60, I was pleased with that. After all, if you are going to have a naff day out, you don't want to pay a fortune for it.
The train, amazingly, was on time and deposited us in the centre of Liverpool. As this was on a Sunday afternoon, I was surprised at the amount of people about. I was also ...

Why does Liverpool have such a bad name around England I have lived there for 5 years now and haven’t witnessed any trouble at all and I don’t walk around with my eyes closed before you ask.
Before Liverpool I come from a supposedly quiet country town where every Saturday night there were endless fights but you don’t see this in Liverpool. I understand there are problems with gangs and they may have disputes but rarely happens ... ...similar style and character. Liverpool has countless green areas like Sefton and Princes Park very pretty parks based around lakes, which are ideal for a nice afternoon stroll. The City centre of Liverpool contains all the usual shops and more to suit the character of the city, lots of specialist music shops to suit all tastes.

...is my fourth year in Liverpool now as a student and have another three to look forward to!
From the moment I arrived I loved all aspects of the city. The first thing that struck me was how big the city centre was having nearly every shop you could imagine and more (compared to my home town with one main street!) There is always such a vibrant atmosphere of people rushing around whether it’s a Saturday or a Monday.
The nightlife is amazing with ... ...restaurants and takeaways.
As Liverpool has been voted Capital of Culture in 2008 it would be a shame to miss out on the sights of the city. There are many museums, The Beatle’s Story exhibition and the Magical Mystery Tour which takes you round the Beatles former homes, schools etc…really not to missed.
Getting to the city is very easy with the majority of major transport routes taking you right into the heart of the city. By rail, you will come ...

I would have to agree with the previos writer, who gets his hair cut at the great Norman's in Gateacre Village. Some people as the previous opinionist pointed out, many old people do sit there all day, but this is just down to the sheer quality of the personality of Norman, he is a true genius of conversation, and even though he's a red, he still poses respectful opinons on Everton.
