Lots of Floating Sushi

Advantages: very relaxing, stroll at your ease around the zones, educational
Disadvantages: very busy, lots of visitors.

London Aquarium As half term is looming ahead, just an idea as to where you can take the children is the London Aquarium. Being a Piscean where best for me to see some relations ! Hubby and I took my three ankle biters in the last half term which was October. Here's a guide as to what to expect if you make that journey. ~~WHERE IS IT AND HOW TO GET THERE.~~ The London Aquarium is situated on the South Bank. The river Thames runs adjacent to the ...
...situated right next to the London Eye, past Westminster Bridge and within walking distance to Big Ben and The Houses of Parliament. Salvador Dali has one of his curious statues close to the entrance. Being London there is limited parking so I suggest you take public transport. If however you decide that driving into town is more convenient for you then there is parking at The Royal Festival Hall or you can use the underground parking facility at ...

...of our Planet...... join the London Aquarium on a journey into this great unknown' I have always been fascinated by the underwater world and all it's weird and wonderful creatures, hence why I'm studying Marine Biology at Uni. Over the years I have been to a number of aquariums including a couple from the well known Sea-Life chain. I first visited the London aquarium aged 14 and went more recently when applying for voluntary work, but now I will ...

Underwater antics

Advantages: family discounts, variety of activities and fish, very calming atmosphere
Disadvantages: very dark inside aquarium and very warm due to heating and tanks

The London Aquarium is located in County Hall on the south bank of the River Thames in Westminster, central London. The aquarium has up to a million visitors per year and is a very popular place with the tourists. Due to the aquarium located where it is you have the London Eye just a few yards away, a clear view of the Houses of Parliament and the famous Oxford Street just a mile down the road. Getting to the aquarium is very easy with a range of ...

Fishy.. def not

Advantages: many species , value for money, calming atmosphere
Disadvantages: limited shop ,not long enough

I went to the London Aquarium for the first time a few months ago and can't wait to go back. They had the most amazing exhibits i have seen at an Aquarium. Their "touch" section whee you can touch Plaice, crabs, starfish and further on a big tank where you can touch stingray is fabulous. The whole experience is amazing . It's a very big place just near the London Eye. It looks very small but it is massive. I cannot get over the amount of different ...
...advice and go either with your family or friends you will not be disappointed. And look out for the Pirahna fish. they are the stillest fish i have ever seen. They have not only small fish there are beautiful sharks in the centre of the aquarium which you could just stand there for hours and watch. It's a very calming place to be... maybe not in the school holidays but when it's a rainy day you have hours worth to do. My only critiscism is that when ...

Something Fishy.....

Advantages: Great sea life
Disadvantages: A bit expensive

...If you live in London or not, you must try and see the Aquarium, it is brilliant. It is right by the London Eye so directions to it should be okay, or if you use the tube, Westminster is the best stop. You start off by walking in and there is this Ford Ka in the entrance way. Un be known to me, until later it has actually been converted into a mini aquarium. All the windows have been sealed up and it is filled with rocks and water with fish inside ...
...all around. That alone was well worth a look and a photo. Entrance into the aquarium was quick even though it was fairly busy! It cost £8.50 per adult which I thought was a little expensive but at the end it was well worth it. There are hundreds of fish there, from carp to sea horses, from sting rays to sharks. The shark pool was busy and I can see why. It is a huge pool about 40 ft deep and there are about 4 viewing pods all at different levels. ...

Catch of the Day

Advantages: A good outing for the whole family
Disadvantages: None

We recently visited the London Aquarium with our two year-old daughter. As it was freezing outdoors we wanted to go somewhere warm and somewhere that would keep our daughter's attention. The aquarium proved to be the perfect solution. We managed to avoid the high entrance fees by taking advantage of a 2 for 1 offer that we found when booking train tickets to London. That helped considerably and resulted in a cheap outing for the three of us. The ...
...of toddlers there so the London Aquarium is definately a hot spot for tots to visit. (We were there on a Sunday.) The petting tanks were also very popular with the kids, though our daughter was a bit small to safely touch the fish without falling in! She enjoyed just splashing the water though and watching the others having fun. For the more serious fish fanatic satisfaction is guaranteed. Good descriptions of the fish are available to read. Only ...

Top day out

Advantages: Diverse collections. Interactive exhibits
Disadvantages: Expensive ticket price

We were quite shocked by what seemed like a fairly high entrance fee but by the end of our visit we thought it was worth every penny. We must have spent a good three hours or so being astounded by the diversity of life that is found in our seas. The aquarium houses a selection of fish and invertebrates from all over the world and they tend to be grouped according to the region that they are found in. While the large shark tanks were very impressive, ...
...neon lit jelly-fish, floating sublimely in a circular tank. I also watched the cuttle-fish for ages, their bodies changing pattern and colour according to their mood. The exhibits ranged from the fish that inhabit the coastal in inland waters of Britain to the spectacular coloured life from the tropics to many totally bizarre life forms that I had never known existed. An excellent place to take the kids aged 5 to 99 on a rainy afternoon. Highly recommended. ...

The Aquarium

Advantages: can't think of any this time around
Disadvantages: Can get busy, sometimes full of screaming kids over the holiday periods, dumbed down feel

...no recent reviews of the London Aquarium on here, I thought I should add an update! I had not been here since early 2007, so I thought it warranted a visit seeing as I had some time off work. A lot has changed... First of all - the prices: Adults (15 yrs): £16 Children (3 - 14 yrs): £11.75 Babies/Toddlers: Free (All children must be with an adult of 18 years or older!) Students and OAPs: £14 Family ticket (2 adults + 2 children): £50 Disabled Adult: ...
...layout has changed quite a bit! 1) They have placed a sweet shop right in the middle of the aquarium, next to the theatre. 2) The information posters about the fish are not displayed very well. They use LCD monitors now which have pages that are only displayed for 5 minutes at a time. This is quite bizarre as you have to read it and then wait for information on what other fish are inside the tanks. Also some of the text can be quite hard to read ...

too watered down

Advantages: Rays, nice ultraviolet jellyfish
Disadvantages: No mammels! Not enough hands-on displays

...with my visit to the London Aquarium. there is not a great deal of variety of species - the main attraction appears to be the sharks which are fairly impressive. The only good attraction is the petty tank with the rays which you can stroke. However I feel that they have not made the most of this oppurtunity to allow people to get close to wildlife firsthand. Other aquariums i have been to around the world have had a greater variety of petty sealife ...
...compared to other aquariums I have visisted. I think the most disappointing thing was the lack of mammels such as otters. I understand this is due to a lack of space but the south bank has just been redeveloped and there would have been plenty of space to build a larger aquarium further east! ...

More than a bit fishy!

Advantages: Interest for the kids
Disadvantages: Early publicity claims seem a bit exaggerated

...situated in the old Greater London Council offices on the South Bank of the Thames at Westminster, the London Aquarium boasts the largest fish tank in Europe. Here you can see a wide variety of exotic and not so exotic fish displayed in tanks dipicting their natural habitats. The centre piece is the large tank containing a number of shark species. If you have ever visited Sea World in Florida, then this aquarium will probably seem quite small. However, ...

Cod and Chips

Advantages: Get to see and touch fish
Disadvantages: Not much parking available

Visitors to London who get the London Pass will be able to enjoy this as one of the many attractions that they can get for a single day pass of around £20. I went to the south bank to the London Aquarium on the 31st March 01 and really enjoyed this trip. If you are a fan of fish and living things exploring this museum will put you in another world. Its easy to watch for 20 minutes at a time the great tiger sharks go by in a big tank situated in 3 ...
