Gatwick Airport for me is a must to avoid. I last went through there a year ago and it was a disaster. I note that most of the Ciao reviews were written before the current security measures came into place, when they would have been justifyably more favourable. As big airports go, Gatwick is hard to beat. The two terminals (north and south) have their own character, but these comments can apply equally to both. Gatwick is well signed, and while it is busy and there can be queues it all seems to be relatively hastle free. Shops and restaurants are better than average both landside and airside. There are two different train providers running between Gatwick and Victoria alone, not to mention those that operate to Brighton, Luton, Bedford and so on. Having worked at this airport for the past 7 years - I can only agree with most of the comments already stated. Gatwick is well laid out, easy to find - weather it be by road, rail or bus with ample parking,and above all clean! There are a wide selection of shops both landside and airside, offering everything from Caviar to Digital Camcorders. I used Gatwick North terminal for the first time to travel GB Airways (British Airways). The terminal is too large - for a number of reasons. The "on-airport" long-stay car parking is a 10 minute bus journey form the airport and the car park is huge (we parked in zone Z). Gatwick airport is far more accessible than it used to be since the M25 was completed. It is, as a result, one that can be considered by those other than from south of the River. Whilst we like to think we have a choice most people fly from gatwick because that's where the holiday package company says they must. But what is it like as an airport. Gatwick is Londons second largest airport. Smaller than Heathrow, it handles less traffic. However, more of its flights are for holiday makers rather than scheduled flights for holiday and business people alike. There are two terminal, North & South which are linked by a monorail.
