Come Fly with Me.

Advantages: Lots of Shops
Disadvantages: I have to use the M5 and then the M23 to get there by car.

...for such a small island!). London Gatwick is the second busiest airport in the United Kingdom plus the sixth busiest international airport in the world! Most needs are met from the casual holidaymaker to the regular businessman. **How to get there** *By Road* London Gatwick is 28 miles (45kms) south of London and is directly linked to the M23 motorway at junction 9 and to the A23 London - Brighton road. Warning these roads have a lot of traffic ...
...other coach services stop at London Gatwick's coach station on the ground floor of South terminal. Principal services also call at North terminal. Passengers arriving at the South terminal, but require the North Terminal should take the transit train. It is worth remembering that services from most parts of Britain connect at Victoria Coach Station with the Airbus A5 to London Gatwick. This helps to reduce confusion in the main! A FLYING START.

Advantages: Very well organised. Clean. Lots of places to buy last minute essentials.
Disadvantages: Not the easiest to get to.

To be honest Gatwick airport is one that I try to avoid, not for any other reason than it is possibly the trickiest of the major UK airports for me to get to form the East Midlands where I live. However, when I booked my flights for my recent trip to Canada, the best fare was via Gatwick, so I plumped for the bargain, and faced the reality that I would have to get to Gatwick. This was made worse by the fact that my flight was at midday, and with ...
...before any international flight, meant that I had to be there for around 9am. The M25 at that time in the morning as many of you will vouch for is horrific, and I did not look forward to the journey. In the end we left home at around 5 am, and got to Gatwick at 8.45 am, after stressing out whilst sat stationary on the M25, and generally having a very unpleasant journey indeed. Thanks go to Steve my husband for putting up with me moaning at him, and ...

Took almost as long to walk, as to fly.

Advantages: None, use another airport if you can
Disadvantages: This airport is a nightmare.

Now I could blind you all with facts and figures about Gatwick but then you would all get bored and I am sure a lot of you already know how to get to Gatwick. However I noticed that there have been no reviews done on Gatwick since 2002. If you need all the facts figures and information then go to the website BAA. Com or Gatwick airport. com I always find the best way to explain a place is by experience and although I may not have had the best experience ...
...much reflected my last visit which was last year. So it does not seem to have changed much and in my opinion has actually deteriorated and continues to do so on every successive visit I make. You can draw your own conclusions from the experience I am going to relate and as usual I have done it in my own ruthless way. I take no prisoners and make no excuses for this pathetic excuse for an airport and my explanation of it. Gatwick is the busiest single ...

Gatwick Airport - A Case of Crisis Mis-Management

Advantages: Good motorway access, reasonable parking and other facilities
Disadvantages: They just cannot cope with above-average numbers of departing passengers

Gatwick Airport for me is a must to avoid. I last went through there a year ago and it was a disaster. I note that most of the Ciao reviews were written before the current security measures came into place, when they would have been justifyably more favourable. I hope, but doubt, that it has changed much in the last year, I don't know, because I have taken to using alternative more local airports like Southampton and Bristol, where the staff are ...
...through Gatwick tomorrow, and if I was lucky to get the time of day right, I could sail through and wonder what all the fuss was about. My last experience put me in such a bad frame of mind from the outset of my holiday, that I won't take the risk if I can possibly avoid it. However, that said, later in 2008 I am taking a flight from Gatwick to La Palma (a new service operated by Thompson Airlines, to one of the smaller Canary Islands started in ...

A Hub of the Community

Advantages: Accessibility, Accomodation, Amenities
Disadvantages: Not every airline features, quite high Airport Tax

...the UK's second largest airport, London Gatwick has the job of catering for the overflow from Heathrow and does it very well indeed. This is an outline of what Gatwick offers. LOCATION/ACCESSIBILITY The name London Gatwick is slightly misleading because it is not in London at all. It is in Crawley, West Sussex and just on the border of Surrey. The Gatwick Express train is a mere 30 minutes trip from London Victoria and there are also connections ...
...Bristol. Gatwick is off the M23 which connects to the M25 and is normally Ok for traffic. Parking is not too bad and is easy to get the monorail over to either terminal ACCOMODATION Gatwick, like most airports, provides accomodation just outside the main terminals, North and South. There is a range and the most popular is the Holiday Inn. The Ramada is also popular. If you do not fancy staying so close, take a 3 miute train trip to Crawley or Horley ...

London's premier airport

Advantages: Transport links, clean, modern and easy to get around
Disadvantages: None that I can think off

London Gatwick puts London Heathrow airport to shame, this is a modern, clean and well presented airport. Gatwick is served by many transport links and is well situated for access to central London. On arrival at Gatwick it is a pleasant surprise to see concise and clear signage directing the passenger to where they want to be. There is ample long and short-stay car parking and free bus services to and from these at regular intervals. There are ...
...such as duty free shops, cafes and ample toilets. There is more than adequate seating at individual gates, with drinks and confectionary machines. I have flown out of all London airports and they all put Heathrow to shame and in my opinion Gatwick should be London's number one airport. ...

Flyaway

Advantages: things to do
Disadvantages: busy

London Gatwick Airport, designed and built to take the excess air traffic away from London Heathrow, but is today a London airport in itself. The second largest airport in the UK boasts good facilities. I use Gatwick regularly, and if I am to fly out from the South terminal I always arrive very early, in fact extremely early for my flight. Why? To take advantage of all the facilities at the terminal. The shopping centre within the terminal is brilliant. ...
...a pub, restaurants and cafes, a burger king....and the list goes on. The airport is clean, the toilets are regularly attended to and kept smart. Car parking is plentiful, but you have to allow around half an hour to travel from most car parks until you arrive in the airport lounge, just to be on the safe side, the free car park busses run frequently but are sometimes crowded. Security is tight and the customs officers are polite, doing a difficult ...

Modern facilities

Advantages: Good access links, Good facilities
Disadvantages: none

People may complain about this country but one thing you can say is we have pretty good airports and Gatwick as Londons number two airport is no exception. The airport is well served by road and rail links with the M23 providing the main arterial road link and the Gatwick express service providing high speed rail links to London. There are ample parking facilities and for anyone using GAtwick as a holiday departure point there are a number of off ...
...service too and from your terminal(Gatwick Parking and BCP are two I have used). SInce the second terminal opened a few years ago I find that the airport is less congested - you just have to make sure you know which terminal you are leaving from. Inside the check in facilities are sopacious and well organised. There are excellent shopping and restaurant facilities (try Garfunkels for early morning breakfast). ...

Best of the Big Airports

Advantages: Good range of faci;lities and ground transport
Disadvantages: Some long walks

As big airports go, Gatwick is hard to beat. The two terminals (north and south) have their own character, but these comments can apply equally to both. Gatwick is well signed, and while it is busy and there can be queues it all seems to be relatively hastle free. Shops and restaurants are better than average both landside and airside. The abolition of EU duty free now means that domestic passengers get to go through the nice airside areas with ...

London Gatwick - a higher class of flying

Advantages: Easily accessible by road or rail
Disadvantages: does not offer night flights

...24 hours a day from London Victoria ( I know!!!! - I normally use the service on a saturday night after clubbing in london). There are two different train providers running between Gatwick and Victoria alone, not to mention those that operate to Brighton, Luton, Bedford and so on. The gatwick express, the non-stop service from Victoria costs ~ £14 for a return. And is a comfortable and clean ride. Taking roughly 35 mins. Some of the operators trains ...
...need to stop before reaching london city centre. Parking at Gatwick is brilliant service to a bus runs from the long stay car park to the terminal approx. every 10 mins although I always seem to manage to plan it just right - luck I suppose. It costs under £8 per day to park your car in the long stay, so if you are going to need to park for more than 3 hours it tends to work out cheaper to park in the long stay than the short stay. There is also ...

How can I help you

Advantages: Friendly Staff - Good access
Disadvantages: None

Having worked at this airport for the past 7 years - I can only agree with most of the comments already stated. Gatwick is well laid out, easy to find - weather it be by road, rail or bus with ample parking, and above all clean! There are a wide selection of shops both landside and airside, offering everything from Caviar to Digital Camcorders. If you are a frequent traveller then don't forget to pick up a 'world points card' - every transaction that ...
...will then earn you points which you can cash in for vouchers to help with the next shopping list.Airport shopping has taken bad press in the past, but I can honestly say there are some terrific bargains at Gatwick, just waiting to be snapped up! So do your homework and check out some prices before you fly - you may be pleasantly suprised. The only gripe I have is that the average passenger does not look up to read the signs...it would be an ideal ...

Tale of a very long queue

Advantages: Can fly to almost anywhere
Disadvantages: Too large, long check-in queues, long way from north of London

I used Gatwick North terminal for the first time to travel GB Airways (British Airways). The terminal is too large - for a number of reasons. The "on-airport" long-stay car parking is a 10 minute bus journey form the airport and the car park is huge (we parked in zone Z). The length of the check-in queues was ridiculous - we started queuing outside the terminal building which was the width of the building 4 times deep! We got inside to find the ...
...the check-in desks. We spent 2 hours moving up the queue until we finally checked-in 2 minutes before the final call for our plane! I cannot really comment on any facilities as we did not have time to use them, although I can say that the departure lounge looked like a place I would not mind spending a bit of time and money in. We had to walk for 10 minutes to get to the departure gate, although when we got back the arrival gate was even further ...

Gatwick good or bad?

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

Gatwick airport is far more accessible than it used to be since the M25 was completed. It is, as a result, one that can be considered by those other than from south of the River. Whilst we like to think we have a choice most people fly from gatwick because that's where the holiday package company says they must. But what is it like as an airport. Frankly, I find it to be quite a cold place and not too clean. I hate the parking arrangements although ...
...the termini. What I do not like is the cost. It will not be long before you can fly to your destination cheaper. Because most of us spend more time in airports than we want to mainly because of delays and the 'you must be there hours before your flight is supposed to ready. For this reason we need a comfortable place to park ourselves and our bags. Good food for when we are hungry and and something tho while away the time. Truth is the shops art ...

Where you start your holiday!

Advantages: Lots of shops, lots of flights
Disadvantages:

Gatwick is Londons second largest airport. Smaller than Heathrow, it handles less traffic. However, more of its flights are for holiday makers rather than scheduled flights for holiday and business people alike. There are two terminal, North & South which are linked by a monorail. Airlines seem to be split dealing with either one of the terminals. The Gatwick Express, travelling from Victoria is an excellent, frequent link with the airport and ...
...There are tonnes of shops, both before and after passport control. Catering form everything from sports shops to WHSmiths. You will find everything there; Boots, Warner Bros, Harrods, Dixonx, you name it, it will be there (or similar). Flights rom Gatwick tend to suffer more delays than other airports as the emphasis is on holiday flights. So when foreign air traffic controllers strike it has a knock on effect on the rest of the flights. Overall ...

Holiday airport

Advantages: Well run
Disadvantages: Tricky to get to, holiday makers

...using it as their preferred London venue. It has two terminals linked by a monorail system. Access to Gatwick is a little tricky. It is well served by the Gatwick Express train from central London, but if you ask at the train station ticket office you can get cheaper fares on other trains. Situated south of London it is a good choice if you wish to visit Brighton or London, but travelling up country by road is difficult as it can take upwards of ...
...the emphasis more on the family compared to Heathrows more business focussed outlets. Gatwick flights tend to suffer a few more delays than I have experienced at Heathrow. As more of a holiday airport there are often more children around. This can be irritating if the Spanish or French air traffic controllers are on strike, as they can get tired and cranky. Given a free choice I’d pick Heathrow, but Gatwick is a fair second choice. ...
