London Underground

AdvantagesConvenient method of transport, frequent trains, Easy to get around

DisadvantagesSignal Failures, Broken Trains and Heat!

"♣ The London Underground ♣ ----------------------------------------- Considering I travel on the London Underground at least 6 days a week, it seemed fitting that I came across this category to write under. On top of that, two years ago I spent two days raising money for St Helena Hospice by visiting all of the 275 stations on the network. By the way, if anyone ever feels the urge to do that, I would certainly recommend it as it is ..." Read review

Connecting the city... Diamond review Review with images

AdvantagesGreat when it works

DisadvantagesAwful when it doesnt!

"...alternative modes of transport in London are limited. HISTORY London's underground network, AKA the 'Tube' is the oldest in the world. That said there are some spanking new parts too. The first part of the tube was opened on 10th Jaunary 1863. Called the 'Metropolitan Railway,' it ran between Paddington (which was then called Bishop's Road) and Farringdon. These services were run by steam trains, which must have been ghastly underground! The ..." Read review

Welcome to the Underground - Its not what you think Review with images

AdvantagesFast and reliable way In/Out of London

DisadvantagesExpensive at peak times

"...get into the centre of London much more quickly. The Underground is a cheap and fast alternative to using cars, or even buses. I have travelled on the trains since I was an infant, and over the years, it has both got better in some areas, but become more disruptive in terms of delays and repairs. === >> Fees/Prices ..." AdvantagesQuick, efficient

DisadvantagesDirty, Smelly, No Disability Features.

"The London Underground. ~History~ The LU was the first ever underground railway in the world. Its Metropolitan line was the first ever and it was constructed in 1868 and ran between Paddington and Farringdon on steam hauled trains. Since then the network has had an extra 12 lines constructed and all run off electric rails. ~Lines~ The Lines in alphabetical order are: ·Bakerloo -Harrow and Wealdstone - Elephant And Castle ·Central -West Ruilsip ..." London Underground...

AdvantagesGets you where you need to go, trains fairly frequent

DisadvantagesPrice, people, etc!

"My personal expperiences with London Underground are fairly good. It is not a perfect service, the people tend to be nasty, and they keep raising the ticket price! BUT, without it, getting places would be a lot more difficult, and i suppose you get alot for the price, compared to trains to other places. Despite its problems, London Underground has a goodish service, or at least the only one available! THE TUBE LINES There are 10 main lines and ..." Read review

Girls Aloud's favorite form of transport...

AdvantagesQuickest way to travel across most of London, Oyster card generally makes travel easy

DisadvantagesVery overpriced, can get extremely crowded, hot in summer, generally impractical for disabled people/buggies

"...zones you travel through. Central London is mainly enclosed within zone 1, and beyond this are zones 2, through to 3, 4 , 5, 6, A, B, C and D. To see where you need to travel to and which line(s) you require, you can pick up a pocket tube map, free, from any tube station. There are also maps on display on platforms and in ticket halls. Navigating the tube is made very simple by the signs which are in place to help you find the correct platform. ..." Read review

London Underground

AdvantagesReliable connections around different parts of London

DisadvantagesPrices for customers might seem high, also the planned engineering works also cause disruptions

"==London Underground== The London Underground is where travellers from around London, use the tube to get to and from work and see different places. The service takes people around London I tended obviously to travel to work which was located in Bond Street London. Now if you know about London, Bond Street looks somewhat downmarket, although it does actually have good street pavements and a wide range of high class department shops as well as ..." Read review

A system taken for granted, but proud to be British

AdvantagesReliable, robust, a tourist attraction on it's own... British!

DisadvantagesMind the gap, watch for pick-pockets, the rush hour and the old lady who wants to get on first at all costs.

"...the US. Try moving around London by car (nice day for congestion charging), by bus (run, catch it! oh.. it's quicker to walk anyway!), by bike (hope you have life insurance) or by taxi (hope you have a big wallet and a big mortgage...). One thing I haven't changed my mind about the Underground and that's the price, is a little silly. £5.40 at the moment for a travelcard works out about US$10 at the moment. In 2002, and I'm guessing it hasn't gone ..." Read review

London Underground, Life line + Pain

AdvantagesQuickest and most practical way to get around london

DisadvantagesYou can be packed as if you was inside a sardine can

"...travelcard for unlimited travel around london each day, as a mid-aged teenager I could not resist. Thoughout my traveling I have noticed how important London Underground (Commonly known as the Tube) is to the everyday life of Londoners and of its visitors. It's services are over demanded on rushhour periods, but its service overall are very good. Reliability of the Tube is very good. These trains are not normally run on a timetable, but of a frequencey ..." Read review

Fast and frequent and the only way to travel in London

AdvantagesIt is fast and convenient

DisadvantagesClostrophobic and certainly not for disabled passengers

"...a very hectic break in London taking in as many sights as possible in 3 days. Although we took the London sightseeing tour much of our travel time was spent on the London Ungerground. We used a number of lines - Circle, District, Northern, Central, Piccadilly, Bakerloo and Jubilee with our hotel at West Cromwell Road very near Earls Court. We used the district line predominantly to leave and return to the hotel each day. There is no better ..." Read review

Mind the gap !

Advantages***

Disadvantages***

"My job brought me to London for a month. It is now two weeks I am here, living by a very nice family near Westham (how many cries and sobs did I hear, right this afternoon...), I have to work in Stratford and I try to go in the center of London as often as possible, to make the most of all the things to see there. So I travel by train. So I spend a lot of money. London underground is organised in zones. It's a very usual thing with underground ..." Read review

Cheap and convenient way to travel

AdvantagesEasy to use and affordable

DisadvantagesOverbrowded and too hot

"...than having to suffer the London Underground. I usually go to London for a weekend of 2 in the summer and every time that I do, I come back thankful that I don't have to get the tube every day. In case you don't know, it is Britain's largest and oldest underground rail network. It also feels like the hottest. The amount of people using it is increasing all the time and rush hour can be unbearable. Even at non rush hour times, the tourist industry ..." Read review

Disadvantagessuspensons during weekends

"London underground is used everyday by lot of us to get to work.......during weekends, over crowding is not a problem....i never find it very expensive.........that is the reason why it is called customer friendly. All through the week, I have this train extremely frequent. Like me, it’s the only means of travelling in London for many. During weekends, sometimes have to undergo temporary suspensions…….for which I keep a constant check at TFL website. ..." Read review
