3 Stars Walk of Fame!! Review with images 31/03/2008

Advantages Advantages Great to see the stars and Hollywood sign

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only need a fewdays, not safe at night

On my recent round the world trip LA was my first destination, I have always wanted to go to LA and walk down the star studded Hollywood Walk of Fame and this was my perfect opportunity! I spent a week in LA although I would say that is probably too long, you only really need a few days to see the main attractions and it is a good place to visit as part of a road trip in the USA, maybe adding a stop or two in Vegas or San Francisco as well. Being on budget I opted to stay in hostel just off the Hollywood Boulevard but accommodation is available for all budgets. I was told that unless you have ... more

    Advantages Advantages See op.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages See op.

LOS ANGELES This op is more of an account of the areas of LA that I visited during my recent holiday there. I also spent the consecutive week in San Francisco but that will have to be another op! ~ GENERAL INFO As you may, may not be aware Los Angeles (“City of Angels”) is America’s second (to New York) largest city with a population of around 16 million people. Hence why my 1-week visit only covered a small part of this huge urban sprawl. The ethnic make-up of LA is primarily Caucasians and Mexicans; Mexico is only a 5-hour drive away. However, there are also areas for many other racial ... more

    Advantages Advantages Wild

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Wild

The first time I flew into L.A (as the plane was coming into land and was low over houses), I saw a guy being thrown on the bonnet of a police car (or five o as I started to call them after living there). Walking out of the airport there was a big police raid on hawkers outside so my immediate impression of the place is man, this is wild and I instantly wanted to live there! Anyway, I have family there (my sister was lapdancing at The Bodyshop on Sunset Blvd and my uncle has been there since '65) so I stayed up in Echo Park (which is an absolutely beautiful part of the city up in the hills ... more

Advantages Advantages It's great. Weather is hot.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Smog, quakes, crime - but not if you take your brain with you!

Do you live in San Jose? No? Have you ever put a hundred down and bought a car? You have? Then in a week or two they'll make you a star in this city of angels you know. It's actually true that in every parking lot and McDonalds in LA you'll find an out of work actor. And that's the thing with Los Angeles - it does match up to the stereotypes people have of it. However there is so much more to this vibrant sprawl of suburbia. Los Angeles doesn't have a city centre. The first time I landed there, I had this wonderfully quaint British idea to hunt down a 'high street'. There are about five ... more

Advantages Advantages Didn't stay long enough to find out...

Disadvantages Disadvantages Intimidating for first time visitors.

Let me tell you now - this is a very jaundiced view of LA. I totally admit that in the two days we were there, we didn't have nearly enough time to visit the city's sights and get a fully rounded view of the city of angels. But what we saw was enough to make sure we'll avoid visiting there again...next time we'll fly into San Francisco, San Diego, or straight into Vegas! The eleven hour flight to LA passed....eventually...in the same way you know grief will pass. Luckily, due to my sister's fear of flying, we were upgraded to business class. We needed it. If you can afford to fly business, or ... more

Advantages Advantages Amazingly vibrant and multi cultural

Disadvantages Disadvantages The freeways can be a bit daunting

Late last year myself and my girlfriend took a three week break to explore the west coast of America and Hawaii. One of the places where we spent more time than we should was in The City Of Angels - Los Angeles. This vibrant city has something to offer everyone, but beware, day becomes night, night becomes day and sleep becomes a thing of the past. We stayed at a Comfort Inn in Hermosa Beach during our time in LA, this was about a 1/2 hour drive away from the touristic centre, which includes such great sites as Mann's Chinese Theater (the place with the handprints in the concrete), Macy's ... more

This summer I went to Los Angeles for the 3rd time and I'm still enjoying it. We flew from manchester to Chicago then 2 days later we flew on to LAX. We know some friends there, so thats why we visit so much. We stayed in Orange county at a hotel called the Double Tree. This hotel was excellent service and quality. Whilst we where staying there, the Miss Juinor America competition was being held there as well. We also so, a wrestler, a basketball team, and much much more. We also flew on the same plane as Stevie Wonder. LA is excellent and the Ocean surf is great. My favourite part was Knotts ... more

Advantages Advantages Lots of places to visit

    Disadvantages Disadvantages people

If you go to LA for the first time you will probably think it is great but daunting at the same time as I did. It has the best art museums you will find, but the people are very vain and arrogant, similar to people from New York. Arriving at LA International Airport called LAX, you can pick up free 24 hr shuttle buses which link you to local buses.Finding a place to stay in LA is the hard part if you are looking for a bargain! I sayed at the City Center Motel which cost $90 per night which sounds a lot but is cheap in LA. Places to see are obvious; Bunker Hill, Broadway, Hollywood, Beverly ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dangerous place to visit

It was my first time to LA and we arrived late in the evening from Chicago. My impression of LAX from the movies seem to be a well organised airport but once reaching there, I found it to be in chaos. The signboards doesn't helps in directing first time travellers like us. Furthermore, when we got our luggages, we were met by an impolite and angry looking luggage controller who demanded to see our luggage passes. Then, we have to wander around the busy and chaos airport looking for signs to get to the car hire. It took us quite some time to find it. Also, the airport gives you a sense of ... more

LA is one of the best places i've ever been to. Being young at heart, I enjoyed the pleasures of disneyland in Anaheim as well as the other tourist attractions in the city. We resided in the not-too-expensive Holiday Inn, situated in the heart of the city and around the corner from Mann's Chinese theatre. One night when my family and I had nothing planned and there was a movie premiere going on, we headed right around the corner, split up and waved, filmed or photographed the many famous people, we each admired, just wandering around. Aside from Universal Studios, which is fun, I just loved ... more
