...of my recent visit to Luton, I take it all back - sort out the flight supplements and I need never cross the Severn Bridge for a flight again. Apparently TBI now have a major shareholding in Luton (as in Cardiff) hopefully this will sort out the problems.
SUMMARY
Disappointing, small, dirty and almost shut, save for a few planes roaming around the tarmac. I will fly from there again if I have to, but it certainly would not be my first choice, better ...

Well, after writing a few reviews on other airports around Europe based on just one or two visits, I thought that it was about time I wrote one on my 'home' airport of London Luton (LTN).
Luton is found about 30 miles north of London and is the 4th largest London airport after Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. It was opened in 1938 and was a fighter base during WWII until it started commercial operations. Traditionally seen predominantly as a charter ... ...when several low cost operators, easyJet in particular, started setting up bases at the airport. Today it sees over 9m people pass through every year as well as being one of the foremast private aviation fields in the south of the UK. Earlier this year the airport started its first transatlantic flight with a daily service to Newark, New York being operated by Silverjet, an entirely business class airline operating out of the worlds first private ...

Some of you may well remember the awful advert for Luton Airport, featuring Lorraine Chase responding to the above line with "Naaah, Loootun Airport." Thankfully for all of us in the town, things have come on from the days when the height of glamour was a Cinzano and lemonade. For those of you not in the South East, Luton Airport is situated about three miles from Junction 10 of the M1, and is within thirty miles of London. Recent additions include ... ...- Luton Airport Parkway. Firstly the new station. This is still over a mile from the terminal, but is serviced by a fairly reliable bus link. You can see the bus coming a mile off, as it is normally covered in bright orange Easyjet logos (More on them later) Many locals cannot see the point of the new station, as it is not much closer than the central rail link, and an improved bus service may well have sufficed. Still, who are we to decree where ...

Luton Airport is located a short distance from Junction 10 of the M1 motorway. Geographically I'll estimate it as being 40 miles north of the centre of London, and around 20 miles south from Milton Keynes and Northampton.
It is actually known as London-Luton airport, this not something I realised until I used said airport for the first time recently, I suppose this makes it easier for International visitors to identify the airport as being one close ... ...than the other London ports.
Upon arrival to Luton there is a simple colour coded signpost system which directs
you to the parking you need, or alternatively you be just dropping off, or picking up. Either way it is simple to get to the right part of the site!
Depending on length of your trip, or cash available, you can choose from short stay parking (under 24 hours), long stay parking (over 24 hours), long stay prebooked parking, or executive ...

I hadn't been to Luton Airport for about three years until I flew to Majorca from there in June. I heard that they had been making great improvements to the departure lounge and that, indeed, work was still very much in progress. Well was I disappointed with one of our 'premier' package holiday airports? Yep, you bet. What a tip! We were flying out at around midnight. The airport was not too busy. There were a few Easyjet flights going out - all ... ...for the Med. Facilities were desperately limited for the ordinary traveller. They have a 'food court' - a Cafeteria area, Bar and takeaway. But despite the airport being hardly at its busiest point of the season, you couldn't get a seat or a table up there. So, back downstairs to sit on the comfy seats in the main Departure area. Plenty of those, but nothing to do except sit and wait. Oh yes, part of the improvements is a 'traditional pub' that is ...

I flew EasyJet On January to London. EasyJet usually land in Luton Airport which is really interesting for the company, for this airport and for customers.
Before landing once you see the Vauxhall factories, some roof and that's it you land, no time to be scared...
Then you just drop off the plane, 5, 10 walks and you arrive into the airport building, not really busy as it could be in Heathrow or even Nice-Côte d'Azur Airport. And that's perfect, ... ...are looking for a bus going London Center, there are some waiting for you immediatly outside. A very pleasant airport to be in. It's not too big, so you can't get lost very easily and there are lots of signs pointing the way.
It's kept clean. There're lots of toilets and phones. Plenty of shops and places to get food in the terminal and once you go through to departures there are even more shops, and a Burger King, I believe.
I had a little trouble finding my departure lounge because they were renovating at the time, but I was pointed the ...

Advantages: Relatively easy to reach from London Disadvantages: Only charter airlines, lack of lounges, and quality retail establishments
...The view is of Luton, so for some that may be a bonus. The interior is rather dimly lit, and like the rest of the airport very small when compared to say Gatwick or Heathrow. The check-in was painless enough, after all the staff were courteous, my only grievance was that I had to have my carry on case which weighed only 10kg put into the hold, BA has never even queried the weight of my hand luggage. Then I had half expected this from an airport filled ... ...one X-ray machine being used.
The pre-airside shops and restaurants/bars were appalling, rather like a downmarket seaside resort. Those airside were of an equally poor standard- I was unable to purchase any quality wines or champagnes, and only the most commonly used spirits and liqeuers were available.
Unfortunately, there was no executive/airport lounge, so I had to sit in the large communal ones - no cocktail nibles and perfectly chilled white ...

...Its easy to get to luton, i live in hendon, so i got the Thameslink from Hendon to Luton Parkway, which takes 30 mins and costs about nine pounds single. Then you get on a free bus to the airport from the station which takes about 5 mins, and takes you right to the entrance. The airport has recently been totally overhauled and is as clean as the inside of a newly washed dishwasher (not a great analogy I know). It is so spotless and it is very well ... ...quite manky!
Checking in was a doddle and there are loads of duty free shops that you can use if you are flying domestic. The only bad thing is that Easyjet is usually delayed!
The best thing is this Internet booth which has free access but i think it is going to cut me off soon so I better sign off.
Before I go there are loads of shops and eateries here, such as KFC etc. There is Boots, Tie Rack, Claires accessories, Dixons so it is just like ...

Hving a friend who lives near Luton airport is handy. But only when the friend can pick you up!
Having followed EasyJet's advertising with some skepticism, I decided to try it out for myself. The airline itself was very nice, left on time, and had pleasant staff.
Shame about the airport.
It's out in the middle of nowhere.
When I asked about the train into London, they couldn't tell me how much it cost, or where to change for my connecting train. ... ...response. He gave me lots of information, and told me to change at London Bridge for Bromley. I asked "Are you sure there's a train on Sundays?" He was very sure. Positive, in fact.
He was SO wrong.
I had to phone the people I was staying with, and ask them to collect me from Orpington instead. And then I had to pay a penalty fine because Orpington is farther out than Bromley.
I do not like Luton. If you're going into London, forget it. Use London ...

Advantages: Readily accessible, offering many short and long haul destinations. Disadvantages: Luton could benefit from better hotel and conference facilities
Luton (London) International Airport is truly the choice alternative to the London airports. Easily accessible from the M1 motorway, this continually improving airport offers all the advantages of the larger London airports, but without some of the major hassles sometimes associated with them. The new terminal is bright and clean and check-in times are relatively short. Luton continues to expand the number of destinations it flies to, as EasyJet ... ...airport is making it one of the fastest expanding airports in the country, with an average of 5 million passengers per year.
There are a number of nearby hotels, but Luton could benefit from more top class accommodation and conference facilities. Luton itself, is conveniently placed for direct access to London, being just about thirty miles away. Rail and road connections are good too, with the M1 and M25 being within easy reach.
Luton itself offers ...

Advantages: Convenient, clean, good facilities Disadvantages: Car parking services
My mother, who is in her 91st year and recovering from a fractured hip, and I recently travelled from Luton Airport on one of Easyjet's early morning flights to Malaga. In view of her condition I found it very helpful that the disabled parking area in the set down / pick up car park was right next door to the terminal, so that I was able to unload mother and baggage before going on to park in the long term car park.
Here my problems started, I had ... ...travelled, and in view of my mothers age (she had not yet at that time fractured her hip) I asked for parking in the on-airport car park and paid for same. However when I arrived at the car park in question I was informed that whilst the amount I had been charged was appropriate for that particular car park I had in fact been booked in the car park 5 miles away. At 4 a.m. ther was nothing I could do to correct the situation, except to take up the ...

As I live near to Luton itself, I always fly from there. Over the years this small airport has changed dramatically. For those of you who haven't been there for about 3 years, it is now very different. The airport check in area were very spacious & had plenty of room to accomodate the check in queues. Once checked in there was a large coffee shop that also sold snacks, which was handy. The airports check in side also offered a music shop, video arcade, ... ...plenty of toilets & telephones to use & also plenty of baby changing facilities.
As we went through to the departure area it was all very clearly signposted & was a straight forward path to follow. Once in the departure area there were even more shops, restaurants, pubs & duty free. There was a special childrens play area so the kids won't get bored waiting. The staff were all very helpful & the airport was spotless. It really couldn't be faulted. ...

Advantages: Small airport, less chance of losing children among people Disadvantages: Too many to summarise!
What a dump! No kidding, this airport is so far behind any other western airport I have been to in my life as to not be true!
The first part is the arrival. Nothing that you would take forgranted in any other modern-day airport. No, here you get the old set of steps wheeled up to the plane. As if this is not bad enough I had flown back from Spain, and it was wet and cold in Luton that December afternoon. I was not impressed.
We then went to get ... ...ever been to. Add to the fact that a lot of maintenance work was taking place and you can see we were not enjoying our arrival at Luton airport.
As my girlfriend and I had time to kill before our connecting flight we went to get food from the food court. Plenty of choices for food (proportionally), but yet a number of tables which were vastly less than you might have expected. Not cleaned upon a regular basis either. I dread to think of foreigners ...

Easy jet Cheap flights around Europe is it for real, well that’s what I’m about to discuss. They are cheap (I found £65 return tickets to Athens the other day) but you don’t get the service that you do with other airlines. There are no classes like first class or second class. You all sit in the same area in the same seats with the same service. Is this good or bad? Well if you have the super star cash to be sat next to a smart businessman in huge ... ...want, you are in the wrong airline! Services: You don’t get a free drink at the start of the journey. If you want something to drink or to eat, you have to pay. Relatively is expensive.
No big or personal TV and you can’t use a phone (!)So what can you do? Nothing! Well there is that cheap magazine that can help you to kill some time.
You always spend £30:00 on a small toy or a couple of 125ml drinks so is paying £100 more worth it well if you ...
