Luxor is situated on the east bank of the River Nile in completely flat terrain. The focal point of the town is Luxor Temple. ...husband and I went to Luxor on the 30th of August 2006 for 2 weeks. We had never really thought about Egypt before but seen a good deal on the internet. We stayed in The New Winter Palace (sister hotel to the Winter Palace). The hotel was really nice but the food and drink was a lot more expensive than the local restaurants.
The first day we arrived about 16:30 and decided to go for a walk. We walked along the Nile, the view was amazing and it was ... ...came up).
We went to Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple, I have never seen anything like it. The work and detail that went into the buildings was unbelievable. Luxor museum and the Mummification museum were really interesting, especially seeing the real life mummies.
My advice to anyone thinking of traveling to Luxor is shop around and never give the price that people ask for they expect you to bargain so they double the starting price. I would also ...

...husband and I went to Luxor a couple of years ago for two weeks. Although we were worried about security we didn't have any problems and a trip we went on to a Red Sea Resort was chaperoned by armed guards incase of trouble. The security of tourists is taken very seriously in Luxor, and we didn't come across any trouble at all.
The hotels are excellent and service is second to none, just walking down the street you find yourself offered a taxi or ... ...you on a tour of Luxor culminating in a trip to the local papyrus museum, which is very interesting with a demonstration of how it is made and a hefty commission for the driver if you buy a papyrus! In fact, every driver we used had a brother or a cousin with a shop which we were assured we just had to visit!
The monuments in Luxor need no introduction and a trip to the West bank is a must to visit the valley of the kings at the very least. Guided ...

Luxor doesn't have pyramids, but it has many tombs to explore, as well as ancient buildings like Karnak. It is also an experience you should grasp if it ever comes your way! I had a very cheap holiday there as there were recent troubles for tourists by religious and military extremists, and at first the sight of soldiers no older than twenty casually swinging guns about at every site you visit is highly worrying! You don't get used to it, at least ... ...The biggest shock though is the poverty - the aforementioned decline in tourism affecting lots of the population, who will nag and hassle you even more to buy their statues, take their cab, or go for a sail on their felucca. We even had tea at somebody's house amidst crying babies and grass smoking grandads as taxi services were offered! I tried not to look at the skeletal horses with gaping sores when there were people desperate to earn a few Egyptian ...

Luxor is bet known for the ‘valley of the kings’, which is but a short trip across the Nile, but there is plenty of other attractions there also.
The Temple of Queen Hatshaput – A fantastic palace built at the base of a large granite cliff face. Whilst you cannot enter the palace the work up to the front via the temple access is breathtaking.
The Karnak Temple – You see all the statues and the entrance to the Temple on all ... ...sphinxes and a re in good condition. Inside is row after row of statues and obelisks again all in very good condition.
The Valley of the Kings – A must on a visit to Egypt. Whilst there you can actually enter the tombs and see where the great kings were laid to rest. The feeling of history is fantastic as you walk into the toms and the heat makes it difficult to breath in places. Just make sure that you do not get ripped off by any of the ...

Although getting to Luxor was a bit of a trial, it was, nevertheless, one of the most amazing places I have ever been. Hot? Very! But the sight of the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Temple at Karnak were worth it. We had limited time, and so a guided tour actually meant that we were able to accomplish everything in a short space of time.

I have now visited Luxor three times and would recommend it as a holiday to anyone.
We have visted twice in July and the advantage of this is that it is one of the few travel destinations which is cheaper in the school holidays, howver the heat is incredible and if possible you should avoid this. It is possible to stay in a good quality hotel for around 400 pounds for a week in July which if cost is a consideration is a very reasonable cost.
We ... ...2 places worth visiting in Luxor are Sunshine childrens home. A charity for abandoned and orphaned children. It is currently situated on television Street but moving to new premises soon. The other is the Horse Veterinary hospital which looks after the many cruelly treated horses (and many other animals). ...was our second visit to Luxor and we really enjoyed it again. We stayed at the Moevenpick hotel which is wonderful. It is just out of town on an Island in the Nile. Really recomend this hotel. Luxor itself is noisey with all the touting for business and the car horns which seem to be obligatory in Egypt. Luxor temple is beautiful and it is worth going back at night when it is lit up. Karnack temple is Huge and you really need to go more than once. ... ...is some mild hasstle in Luxor but it is all good natured and the people are very friendly. Don't be frightened of going to Egypt. There is plenty of security about and the crime rate is very low compared with England. All the hotels are excelent and the eating places are very good and clean. John and Johns is good you can even get a traditional sunday roast here. Maxims is good and so is Jems. They are all up by the Shereton hotel. Don't go here ...

...go to a place then luxor is must.
i stayed at the etap where the facillities where excellent and in abundance. with a large pool with surrounding eateries and bar steward service you were constantly spoiled as to what you wold expect on a holiday.
if travelling then i would reccomend later in the year as it is more lenient on the pocket and the weather is not as strong but very warm.
the locals are friendly and bargaining is fun and a must. the ... ...be frightening as it is a different culture but do enjoy making there guest to there country aware of all its awesome sights..so enjoy
trips to the valleys of royalty is eye opening and expensive if you sign up with the travel company tours, befriend some local and they can enlighten you to save a fortune and more inexpensive way to do more on you vacation.
gifts, meals etc are very inexpensive providng you make bargain it down and are of good ...

What can I say about Luxor! It is a treasure trove just waiting to be explored. No visit would be complete without a visit to the sound and light show at Karnak temple, it will take your breath away. To relax thier is a small ride in a felluca up the river nile to banana island, where you can eat the freshest of fruit I have ever tasted. The valleys of the Kings, Queens and nobles will leave you in amazement at how the tombs were ever constructed. ... ...just wait untill you go shoping. The prices are the lowest I have seen for leather and Egyptian made goods, the cotton is especially good. You must always start lower and haglle with the seller, they do expect it. Never expect to pay more that about half what thier asking price is. Whatever happens, it is the holiday of a life time. ...

...is a lot more respectable. Luxor is in the upper Egypt region and is host to the Valley of the kings and many other grand wonders.
The people are so friendly you normally end up not trusting them, always on the look out for something to happen.
I have been to Luxor 7 times now and will always return, it provides excelent value for money and the food tours hotels and many more sights are simply a must.

Goin on holiday to Luxor was a once in a life time experience. My family visited many attractions like the temples and the general area's around our hotel. Whe stayed in the centre of luxor and were treated to a gorgeous veiw of the nile. The weather was hot,hot,hot and was sometimes over whelming. Lets just say if there's a lot of sand; you'll need a lot of water. We stayed at the Prymasia Isis Hotel it was nice but you felt slightly trapped. As ... ...many exursions around luxor to the valley of kings and the valley of the queens. The collosus statues were very memorable as they literally towerd over us.(MUST HAVE BEEN A TALL MODEL POSING.) over all it's a brilliant experience and i hope people reading this reveiw can share it. 8/10 ...

...Second week we stayed in Luxor and again had a brilliant time. As we had visted so many places on the cruise we stayed put in the hotel.
We went in August and as you can guess it was very very hot indeed so I would recomend visiting out of this time. The locals are often seen as a little aggressive and so it helps if you can hold your own and stand your ground!
All in all a wonderful experience not to be missed. ...
