The Centre MK

Advantages: Vast range of stores
Disadvantages: Some duplicate stores

...the first being the Centre MK and the second a place named Midsummer Place. The actual opening date for the shopping centre was September 25th 1979 and has over 260 stores inside. This might have changed quite a lot since the current recession and stores shutting down. This will be an insight to what the centre has to offer and what you can find there. == Opening Hours == Monday - Wednesday 09:30am -- 06:00pm Thursday - Friday 09:30am -- 08:00pm ...
...== Well the centre Mk tries to have a huge variation of stores in different categories. The stores with accessories you might find there are places like, BHS, Burton, Ann Harvey, Moss, Monsoon, Jane Norma, Kiss, River Island, Principles, Superdrug, Wallis and many more sorts of stores to have accessories in. To be honest they do cater a lot for the stores with accessories inside because you have to remember that so many people visit there they need ...

More than concrete cows

Advantages: Great shops and pleasant surroundings
Disadvantages: Parking is difficult at weekends

Milton Keynes has been the butt of many jokes but as it grows and matures into its new city status it may be time for a reappraisal. Of particular interest here is the shopping centre, after all in this category it could hardly be otherwise. Milton Keynes is unusual in that from the outset the town centre was designed to be entirely under cover. The result of this is that we basically have an out of town shopping centre in the centre of the town! ...
...have been recently refurbished. Layout ~~~~ The centre comprises two parallel malls on a single floor (although the shops are mainly 2 storey) with the new Midsummer Place extension at one end. At the opposite end, next to John Lewis, is Middleton Hall that is an open space that features different displays or exhibitions most weeks. Between the two malls there is a courtyard with fountains and seating areas. This offers a very pleasant break in ...

A Girlie Perspective

Advantages: ..
Disadvantages: ..

Like almost any normal, healthy young female, I was looking forward to the chance to do some shopping during a trip to Milton Keynes at the very start of this year. I had with me a native of the area who I assumed would be some help with this, but that’s where I was wrong. You see, he was a he, and being the type of he that he is, although he knew where the electrical and sports shops were, he knew not where anything I needed was. (BTW, anyone ...
...in one sentence???) Anyway, on with the op. We went to The Centre in Milton Keynes which is a huge half mile long shopping complex, offering a mixture of high street names and local independent retailers. ~~ Shops ~~ There’s a branch of everything you would imagine here. There are clothes shops and book shops and music shops and sports shops and toyshops. There are places to buy cosmetics and chocolate and glasses and furniture. You could book ...

Shopperholics Galore

Advantages: Massive, Shops galore, Fun!
Disadvantages: Gets Busy, Poor parking facilities, poor transport around mk

...WHY? Becuase the centre MK is massive. So massive, you can even find it in the book of records! The are loads and loads of shops. You have your major retailers, like woolworths and HMV, then you have your little stalls, like the Yogurt Shoppe and Luvly Bubbly. There is the CMK Market, where you can grab your bargains. It is closed mondays though. You have got the new 'midsumemr place' building with all the new shops opening rapidlly, including the ...

Come to Milton Keynes but week days only

Advantages: Good selection of shops - easy to get to
Disadvantages: Weekends are mobbed, cyclists, skateboarders

If you live in Northampton and have to suffer shopping there, a trip to Milton Keynes can be a treat. However I can only recommend a trip during the week, as the weekends are suffocatingly busy. Everybody talks about the dreaded Milton Keynes roundabouts and how Americanised the streets and street-names are, but actually the road signs at all these roundabouts are helpful, and you cannot miss the shopping centre. The main shops are signed from ...
...a free park and ride although I have not used this so cannot comment. I would certainly suggest using this facility at the weekends as parking does become a problem. If you do decide to park the prices have actually gone up from today (15 October 2001) to 80p per hour however it’s not as simple as that as you cannot pay £3.20 for four hours. You instead pay £3 for three hours 45 minutes – confusing eh? It used to be 1p per minute so £3 ...

A Shopping Sprawl

Advantages: Many many stores under one roof.
Disadvantages: Can get very crowded and stressed.

...which it resides, The Centre MK is sprawling and evolving! The original centre is a very large rectangular shaped building with two main walkways spanning I would estimate at least a mile. It certainly feels longer though as you trawl up and down, especially on a busy weekend! The newly opened extension I mentioned was built at a right angle to the existing centre, and is much more airy and spacious, as the original centre does sometimes feel cramped. ...
...number of ‘flagship stores’ in MK Centre. These are the super large stores, which are on a number of levels, and are situated at the ends of the centre. These superstores are Marks and Spencer, John Lewis, and Debenhams. You could also count Woolworth’s, WHSmith, BHS and Virgin Megastore as they too occupy larger than standard stores. Eating in the centre is something we’ve never done, but there are a few places to eat inside. There’s a pub, McDonalds, ...

I admit it, I hate Milton Keynes Shopping Centre.

Advantages: Huge number of shops.
Disadvantages: Huge number of shops.

...tall lates and cigs, then MK would be almost a pleasant place. But, gentle reader, I am here to shop. The High Street names are well represented here - but they all seem to be copies of one another. If you decided to do price comparisons (as I did once, on my daughter's winter coat) you could well find yourself at the end of an exhausting day, back at the first shop you started in. Milton Keynes has no soul. It has an air of materialism that pervades ...
...to topple over with the sheer tedium of their lives. You might feel more at home if you had a barcode tattoed on your forehead. To make this a more balanced account, I must admit that I love the new Theatre. It has ample parking, is well laid out and has brilliant accoustics. So that's one point for MK, oh, and did I mention the Coffee Shops.......???? ...

Centre MK - Milton Keynes An update

Advantages: SUITABLE FOR THE DISABLED VISITOR/UNDER ONE ROOF
Disadvantages: CAN GET VERY BUSY ESPECIALLY AT CHRISTMAS

...Keynes I visit the Centre MK on a regular basis, and thought I would update you on what's happening. Firstly the Centre MK is all on one level, which makes it easier for wheelchair users and mums with buggies to get around. The Centre is split into 4 main shopping areas and 2 leisure areas: The original part which is about 1/2 a mile long with two main walk ways either side with Marks and Spencer one end and John Lewis the other. A large square ...
...the Christmas displays & exhibitions take place. The Christmas display always delights young and old. The Food Hall which is adjacent to the main building on the open market side contains mainly Supermarkets and some specialist food & wine stores. The theatre area is the place to go if you want restaurants and pubs as well as the theatre and Art Gallery. Again at Christmas this area gets busy, but as an alternative try the CBX Exchange building ...

Forever expanding.

Advantages: Happening.
Disadvantages: None.

Living quite close to Milton Keynes, I visit regularly. It is a very ‘happening’ place, with lots to do. The main attraction of Milton Keynes has to be its shopping centre, which is forever expanding. The shopping centre has just expanded again, so now it includes a Virgin megastore, and several other chain stores. Milton Keynes also has 2 cinemas in the centre that are in major competition with each other. They have also just finished ...
...Ski slope, which also includes more nightclubs and more shops. In all Milton Keynes has 4 McDonalds, which is quite enough thank you. Milton Keynes also attracts quite a few of the skate boarders and BMX riders; this is because of the long straights with Business offices situated on them. The train station is about a 15-minute walk form the shopping centre, which can be tedious after a long days walking around the shops. Milton Keynes has a very ...

Shopping hell or shopper heaven?

Advantages: Wide range of shops and plenty of space to escape into!
Disadvantages: coffee shops/ sandwich bars do become rather packed when the centre is busy

Shopping trips have always been one of my pet hates as I'm very much something of an in, out and gone person. Recently I have found myself being dragged off to the Centre MK. I am pleased to say that, yes I still haven't found it as enjoyable as a pint in front of the football, but it has been a not so offensive experience! The wide areas/walkways that you use to transport yourself around the Centre are of such a size that you aren't forever being ...

B-I-G

Advantages: Loadsa shops
Disadvantages: too many?

I've only been to Milton Keynes once, but I have to say from what I saw (ie the shopping centre) it has a lot to offer. I went with my beautiful girlfriend who loves to shop and it was a great place to go. It's hard finding your way about but there's plenty to do and there are loads of buses to take you home. Milton Keynes was a nice place to be - even though we were indoors when it was sunny. There were loads of shops and we couldn't get round ...
...even just loved sitting their on the seats with my babe. I'm sure if we had had more time, the cinema would've been great too, it certainly looked it. Compared to what Northern Ireland got by way of "new towns" you lot were definitely lucky. Ever heard of Rathcoole? ...

Steadily improving

Advantages: Steadily improving, good range of facilities
Disadvantages: Strong dislike of cars

If you went to Milton Keynes shopping center a few years ago then you probably didnt think much of it, just two rows of shops and a pyramid-shaped cinema, but things have changed. A new extension to the main shopping center has added about 20 new shops, including a large Virgin Megastore and a book shop with a coffe shop on the top floor (nice touch, shame about the coffe). There is also a new building, the Xscape center, with a very comfortable ...

Add to this a new gallery and a theatre surrounded by pubs (including one owned by JD Weatherspoons - cheap pints) and you should have a near perfect town center, but the only free parking is outside the Xscape center (Charges will be introduced soon)andlike all of Milton Keynes, the buses are inexcusably unreliable and expensive. I love the centre:mk. I have lived in MK for 21 years and seen the centre grow to be a shopping haven! With the addition of Midsummer Place, The proximity of Xscape, The Hub:MK, Wake:MK its so much more than just shopping! I love their events diary...the French Market on 3rd - 5th July is always really interesting.
