Advantages: Stunning scenery, lots to do Disadvantages: No any that I know
...but for the record , Majorca is a name visitors have given this absolutely beautiful Mediterranean island, the largest of the Balearic islands, 200 km south of Barcelona, off the east coast of Spain. Locals call it Mallorca, they live the Mallorcan lifestyle.
So now you know where it is, you really do need to know why you should go there. We were eagerly awaiting our first-ever cruise and the offer of a week-stay on Majorca, before that experience, ... ...great food and hospitality!
Majorca is devine. It is obviously highly motivated by tourism, and in some parts of the island this brings criticism for being a bit tatty, but for me, October did not show this as much as it may for height of summer holiday-makers. In fact, we stayed in Magalluf which, along with Palma Nova, is probably the main area of 'tatty' criticism but we did not find it to be so, the shops were themed around the beach, souvenirs ...

Mallorca: The road to the mountains.
Late last year (September 2005), my intrepid wife and I planned and executed a 3-Centre holiday in Mallorca: a favourite holiday destination of ours, despite my obvious intelligence, style and savoir-faire, and Mallorca's reputation as a Chavvite Centre of Self-Indulgence. Mallorca has something of an image problem even now, I believe, because of places like Magaluf and Palma Nova, Port d'Alcudia, etc., but happily ... ...for places like this lack the imagination, intelligence, or the energy even to leave these pitiful & squalid 'resorts', there being little in the way of all-day-English breakfasts, Sky TV, vinyl beach-toys, discos, Aqua-Parks and Carlsberg in the Catalan towns and villages outside those areas to attract them. Good. That leaves the rest of Mallorca for us cognoscenti. Or Illuminati, or both. So, if you don't like the tone of this review so far, don't ...

Advantages: Great touristic offer Disadvantages: If you live in, sometimes you feel like in a prison of 80 kms.
Hello!
I'd like to talk a few about the place where I live, Mallorca.
Mallorca is the biggest of the Balearic Islands; most of people come here finding sun and fun, maybe some of them relax (It's said that Menorca is better for that).
*** HOW TO GO? ***
Well, obviously plane is the most comfortable way to come to Mallorca. I'm not sure 'bout the offers there at the UK, but I'm pretty sure that you can find cheap flights at Easy Jet, or companies ... ...a looooooong way, and I think it's not worth to do it.
Anyway, for brave people i'll say that you have to cross all France, from Calais to Barcelona, and there you have to take a boat.
You have three choices at this point.
1. Transmediterranea. The most serious company travelling to the island.
2. Balearia. I don't like this one. Is not as comfortable as 'Transme' and not as cheap as the third one.
3. Iscomar. This one is the cheapest one. The ...

Advantages: Too many points to mention. Disadvantages: Lager Louts and Ill disciplined Tourists.
I had always been put off from going to Mallorca, lumping it together with Benidorm and Aya Napa as places never to visit, but now I feel that it had been wasted years.
Spain to me had always meant the greener north or Seville, Toledo, Madrid and the historic cities of the south, staying as far away from the tourist traps of the Mediterranean coast as possible but earlier this year the possibility presented itself for a two week break at a very ... ...trepidation, I might add!
True to form, I began to plan this holiday like a military expedition, carefully considering the various details of the logistics involved. Air-port car parking, air-port in UK, air-port in Palma, hotel, resort, facilities in both, maps of resort, Palma and the island of Mallorca, tourist spots, car-hire, language (refresh very rusty Spanish and investigate simple Mallorquin phrases).Just a few points on a lengthy list.

Advantages: there's so much to see, beautiful landscape Disadvantages: none
Parties, Sangria and drunk people – no, this is definitely not all the beautiful island of Mallorca is about. I’m no specialist when it comes to the Baleares, but I have been there 3 x so far and I got to know a lot of different parts of the island that I would really like to share with all of you. I have also read a lot of books and learned about the mallorquin people, the nature and a lot more, so I hope this opinion is of some help for those of ... ...those who even think about spending their holidays there. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* First I want to give you a couple of details about the island. Mallorca is part of the Baleares. Those consist of Ibiza, Menorca, Formentera and Mallorca while Mallorca is the largest of them all with an area of 1405 sq miles, 554 km of coastline and 630000 residents. The landscape of Mallorca is very diverse. You find everything there… from those popular white ...

...spent an enjoyable week in Majorca last year, myself and the other half decided to return again and experience some of the other sights that Majorca has to offer.
We arranged the holiday ourselves on line and as a result managed to make quite a saving on flights, hotel accomodation and car rental. Be warned that if you decide to book your holiday this way expect to spend some time trawling through the various travel websites the internet has to ... ...take your breath away.
Majorca is certainly a destination that has something to offer everyone from couples to families and groups of girls and boys looking for a good time, consequently Majorca is not really somewhere to visit if you want something that is a bit off the beaten track. If, like us, you're looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday then Camp De Mar will certainly offer you that, whilst Magaluf and Palma Nova - half an hour down the ...

Advantages: The beautiful scenery and restaurants Disadvantages: No clubs for people who like nightlife
When you come back from your holidays; looking brown, the first thing people ask is ‘Where have you been?’ First you are a bit apprehensive to tell anyone, you think ‘Mallorca is where everybody goes! It’s nothing special.’ And in 99% of cases this is what happens: You get lost for words, you start to um and ar and finally mutter something inaudible. By now your friends have got the hint and don’t ask anymore questions. ... ...someone who will gladly tell of their experiences of Mallorca. I am one of these people. My journey began in the pouring rain outside Heathrow’s Terminal 1. I ran into the terminal and went straight to the check – in desk, and check in Business class with bmi (British Midland) to Palma airport. Soon I arrived at the gate and saw families with young children waiting to board the small airbus aircraft. That’s how I used to imagine ...

Advantages: Short flight, English widely spoken, beautiful beaches, great nightlife, I could go on forever Disadvantages: You have to come home
I have been to Majorca twice in the last three years. On the first occasion, I went with my husband and our two children who were 4 and 2 at the time. We chose Majorca because of the relatively short flight time of two hours. We stayed in Alcudia at the Marte Hotel which is in an all inclusive complex which also includes the hotels Jupiter and Saturno. We went in the second and third weeks of May. The first week was very unsettled, rainy and windy, ... ...Most holidaymakers going to Majorca seem to just sunbathe and go for the great nightlife but there is another side to Majorca which only few see. The mountain area is absolutely beautiful and if I were to recommend one trip I would not hesitate to recommend the Caves of Drach. At the bottom of the caves there is an underground lake and everyone sits in an auditorium in the dark, then you hear a violin playing and see a small light and a gondola slowly ...

...Overall our holiday to Majorca was Ok however our experience of Bellevue apartments did put us of and we have been reluctant to return and we now would never book anything below 4 star (and we do not use Thomas Cook).
Alcudia itself was quite a nice place although very busy, there is a good range of shops and there are plenty of day trips to go on I would recommend the cave of drach this was an excellent day out. ...

Advantages: Superb family resort Disadvantages: very busy
I visited Mallorca in September 2002 with my family (husband and 10 month old daughter). This was our first 'family' holiday so much time was spent choosing the resort and Mallorca itself was an obvious choice due to the flight time (approx 1.5 hours). We choose the Aparthotel Coma Gran which is situated in Sa Coma on the East coast of Mallorca. The airport transfer is approximately 1.25 hours (almost as long as the flight!) The Aparthotel Coma Gran ... ...a 4 keys rating. It is worth pointing out that this hotel changes to Thompson Super Family in 2003. It is currently part of a chain called Hipotels which own a number of other hotels on the island including Marfil Playa and Aptos Paraiso which are also in the Sa Coma Resort.
Hipotels website is www.hipotels.com and their head office is based in nearby resort Cala Millor, telephone number 971 587512.
The Coma Gran is situated 100m from the sandy ...

Advantages: Lots to do, plenty of space, very helpful staff and local restaurants Disadvantages: Food and drink pricey on site, can be noisy if accomodation facing onto main street
I stayed self catering in Minerva II at the Hotetur Bellevue complex in alcudia in the first week of August 2007. Five girls (aged 22-23) stayed in two apartments with 2 beds and a sofa bed in each - the sofa bed was very comfy! In each appartment there was a kitchenette which was basic but adequate, the bathroom was clean and tidy, whats more we had maid service EVERY day, leaving fresh towels at each visit. It is true that they have no air conditioning, ... ...pulling the curtains during the day stopped the room heating up too much. The fans and other commodities can be rented from reception staff who were very helpful - much more so than our First Choice rep I'd have to say!
The 8 or so pools were clean and not too crowded although you had to get up very early to get a sun lounger. The beach was a 10 minute walk away which again was not too crowded, especally if you just walked a couple of minutes along ...

Advantages: Loads of clubs Disadvantages: Having to come home
I haven’t written any opinions for ciao recently as I have spent a majority of my time doing other things, of which included going abroad to Mallorca. For those who are unsure where Mallorca is, it’s an island-situated East of Spain in the Balearic Islands although I’m sure most people will know this.
There were four of us who went and we stayed in Santa Ponsa on the coast, The area itself wasn’t very large but it had enough ... ...happy, and with Magaluf only being a five minute taxi ride away there was always a bigger night life close buy if we wanted a more adventurous night.
The Hotel we stayed was called Santa Ponse Hotel Park, it was quite basic but nice, it had a main large pool with a smaller kiddies pool next to it, as well as having a small area for children to play in. Inside we had two main rooms and a balcony looking out into the town. One of the great things ...

I’m back, at least 2 weeks, from a 4 day break in Santa Ponza and by this time I thought I’d have submitted my opinion on it and be counting the tuppences flowing in. So whats the problem Peter you’re all wondering, if not why not?

Edited bit- 12.9.01
Went back to these apartments 17-31 August. Some changes good and bad. We went with Airtours who even though they and their associated companies own the place picked the blocks of apartments at the very back of the site, Fedra 1,2,3 and Diana 1 and 2. So even to get out of the site, we had a 20 minute saunter... as it was so lovely and hot you couldn't walk that fast you'd be melting. The standards had dropped dramatically. Cleaning ... ...it was only change the towels. The floor got washed once, I washed it more. Sheets were changed after the third day only because the kids had spilt something on them, after then we could never catch the maid. The Fedra swimming pool was apalling, cloudy, you couldn't see any further down than mid thigh. It was a nice shady area around the pool, but this presented problems itself with pine needles and mud/soil being trampled all over the concrete ...
