Advantages: Modern, Luxurious, All the comforts you could need Disadvantages: Not right in the centre of Edinburgh
...spent a night at the Malmaison, Leith (nr Edinburgh) and I have to say it's one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. Location: Ok it's not right in the centre of Edinburgh, it's at Leith Docks, but it's easily accessible by car and avoids the hassle of driving in the city centre. It costs around £5 to get a taxi into the city centre from the hotel. The car park is closed at the moment, but there's free parking around the hotel and we had no problems ... ...cheap deal on lastminute.com for £95 for a superior double room. The hotel's own rate is more expensive (over £200 per night)
The Room: Our room was on the top floor with a great view of the redeveloped dock area. There are no long corridors with lots of rooms, you feel private and hidden away - our room being up a winding staircase. The room itself was huge with four sash windows, the bed was also massive and very, very comfy! The decor and furnishings ...

Malmaison is known for top quality at affordable prices and the hotel in Leith doesn't disappoint. Although it's a bit of a trek from the city centre (15 mins in a cab), it shouldn't cost more that £8-10 at the most. The hotel is situated on the quayside at Leith, alongside swanky new appartments, the Scottish Executive and some of the older industrial buildings that are being converted or are still in use. The square outside is decorated with sculpted ... ...stylish designer look of the lobby gives you the right impression about the place.
If you get a chance ask for a room facing the docks. You can watch the ships cruise past the docks, and watching the sun set over the sea with the mountains in the background adds to the experience. We stayed in Room No. 1, which has a great 4 poster bed and views out over the docks. The room's are individually decorated and ours was sumptious. A vast bed, littered ...

I love Malmaison's brasseries. The boutique hotel chain's eateries have a really fantastic buzz about them. I think the atmosphere that they have managed to achieve is mainly due to their amazing ability to hire incredibly nice people. I work and live in Glasgow and often eat there, it has a really warm and authentic brasserie feel about it and it's by far my favourite that I've tried. I've also eaten in the Leeds and Manchester hotels each of which ... ...somehow manage to keep the same extremely comfortable and laid back culture. I haven't tried Edinburgh or Newcastle yet but I'm certain that they wouldn't dissapoint
Their menus are fab - it's very simple food but just prepared so well. Signature dishes include, grilled asparagus with hollandaise sauce (my favourite), salmon fishcakes & creme brulee. They have seasonal menus which are always fresh and innovative. I would say the only down side is ...

I recently visited Malmaison in Leith for the second time. It really is a lovely place to stay. There are 60 rooms, on four floors, some poistioned in the building's towers and turrets, which are a bit isolated if travelling alone. The decor is modern chic, checked and striped walls, huge sofas, etc. The mini bar is stocked full of goodies chocolate bars, jelly beans, tortillas, and a good range of alcoholic and soft drinks at reasonable prices. ...
