...spent a night at the Malmaison, Leith (nr Edinburgh) and I have to say it's one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. Location: Ok it's not right in the centre of Edinburgh, it's at Leith Docks, but it's easily accessible by car and avoids the hassle of driving in the city centre. It costs around £5 to get a taxi into the city centre from the hotel. The car park is closed at the moment, but there's free parking around the hotel and we had no problems ...

Malmaison is known for top quality at affordable prices and the hotel in Leith doesn't disappoint. Although it's a bit of a trek from the city centre (15 mins in a cab), it shouldn't cost more that £8-10 at the most. I love Malmaison's brasseries. The boutique hotel chain's eateries have a really fantastic buzz about them. I think the atmosphere that they have managed to achieve is mainly due to their amazing ability to hire incredibly nice people. I work and live in Glasgow and often eat there, it has a really warm and authentic brasserie feel about it and it's by far my favourite that I've tried. I recently visited Malmaison in Leith for the second time. It really is a lovely place to stay. There are 60 rooms, on four floors, some poistioned in the building's towers and turrets, which are a bit isolated if travelling alone. The decor is modern chic, checked and striped walls, huge sofas, etc. The mini bar is stocked full of goodies chocolate bars, jelly beans, tortillas, and a good range of alcoholic and soft drinks at reasonable prices. ...
