Take the train to Manchester Piccadilly. If you must start from somewhere, then pick somewhere in Yorkshire. Say Huddersfield or Leeds, that way you get to ride up through the Colne Valley on the train, one of the best journeys I know. Passing places with names like Slaithwait, Linthwait and Marsden (the locals pronounce them as "Slowit", "Linfit" and Marzdin) and finally through the long, long tunnel that connects the White Rose with the Red. ...lived on and off in Manchester for around 5 years (1998 - 2002) and if I wasn't staying there, I visited at least twice a month. I've seen the city evolve over the past few years and now I've moved to Grimsby (review coming soon...) I'm going to write a review on Manchester.

...think about the goings-on in Manchester it is NOT a scruffy, rough drugs haven! And not everyone walks around repeatedly saying "innit" and "mad fer'it" like a city full of Gallagher clones.
Manchester has undergone huge changes in the last 5 or so years. I admit, it never used to be that impressive..and the main thing to boast about was that it was home to Manchester United...although I'm more of a Bury fan myself...(but lets not go too far into ... ...know about Manchester has been re-developed immensely with new shopping areas such as The Triangle - situated in the old corn exchange, home to high class shops such as Ted Baker. Also, the new Marks & Spencer which was built on the site of where some of the damage from the bomb was caused. This is a huge, impressive glass building. Half of it is now Selfridges - which i do find is a bit cramped and squashed together it is altogether a good place ...

...to pass an opinion on Manchester because I was born and raised within 5 miles- to the North - at Besses O'th Barn..what a quaint name-yes it is. Anyway, Manchester was the nearest big city, but I rarely went in(We just didn't in those days)..When I was 17 I had a Saturday job in Lewises (which doesn't exist any more) and growing up I used to go into Manchester on Saturday night to the clubs there. Having been into the city now 4 times at different times and on different days and seeing most of Manchester and what it has to offer I thought I’d give you a guide.
Manchester has something for everyone and at every age and you can guarantee you won’t be board.
It has many things to offer and ... ...it so cramped with people Manchester is hardly packed at all. You can get through streets and in and out of shops even if you are in a hurry. Also paying for things is a lot quicker as there are no queues. ...ago, I had to leave Manchester for work (I'm now based in Cambridge)......I was, and in fact still am, pretty darned upset at having to leave Manchester - it's quite franky an absolutely fantastic city.
Luckily for me(!), my boyfriend is still based up there, and so I visit frequently......yay!

There is a FANTASTIC airport - the second biggest in the UK after ... ...Road, Deansgate, Salford Central/Crescent and Manchester Victoria.

I have lived near Manchester for nearly fifteen years and i think it is a great city. It is situated in a part of the United Kingdom that receives a lot of rain and dull weather, but don't let that put you off. The city plays host to two Premier League football teams, Manchester City and Manchester United who won the treble a few seasons ago which included the European Champions League. Manchester should be the capital of the UK. It has by far the best nightlife of any city, the best sports (Football, Ice Hockey, Cycling, 5-a-side), and the best people.
There is non of this yuppy life style in manchester. Everyone just buys each other beer for the main and are incredibly friendly.
The shopping is great, what with a great city centre, and also the Trafford Centre, and the public transport is cheap, frequent, clean and on time.

Advantages: Great allrounder- There is something for everybody but without being too big Disadvantages: Getting very expensive to live in the city centre
...down to the fact that Manchester is a relatively small geographic space compared to (i know i keep on referring to it, but...) London, and a good idea can feasibly be rolled out into the open market and swith a bit of luck be a success.
Some of these things I like inparticular are some great little independant hotels, like the Gt John Street Hotel (http://www.eclectic-hotel-collection.com/great_about.htm). There is a big hilton being built here ... ...on a par with London, Manchester is becoming more expensive, especially in the city centre. Their site is www.citycardmanchester.co.uk, and definately a top recommendation for anyone moving to Manchester.
Other great things about the city are obviously the shopping, with Harvey Nicks and Selfridges leading the way, standing opposite one another in the trendy exchange square area of the city, again also with loads of great independant shops and 'boutiques'.
