Advantages: The easy train link to London and The Margate Exodus Disadvantages: The town itself
I live in the Margate area. The area Garlinge where I live is probably the nice end of Margate compared to the rest. Now I'm not just saying this because I live here but Margate is a sh*t hole. It was so popular before, it used to be the mini version of Blackpool. It was good value for money, the beach was fun to visit, fun for all the family and we even had our own theme park: Dreamland. Unfortunatly, Margate has recently gone downhill.
For a start, ... ...allowed you to over look Margate and the beach and stuff but it didn't have proper planning permission so they had to take it down. On the other hand, there are plans for an ice rink there and there are still arcades along the sea front. I wouldn't get too exicited about the arcades though, there are lots of "cool" crews in there, they might not be a pretty sight to see.
The high street of Margate was excellent for shopping needs but now everywhere ...

...of which was not in Margate or anywhere in Britain. The gist is that the Ancient Britons were descendants of Brutus, a member of the great ruling race to which belonged the sun-worshipping Akhenaten, the predecessor and father in law of Tutankhamen. He goes on to quote sources such as ‘The Phoenician Origin of Britons, Scots and Anglo-Saxons’ by Waddell, ‘Historia Britonum’ by Nennius, (882BC), a Welsh writer, and ‘Historia ... ...been discredited for various reasons, mainly because they talk of creationism and there is much prejudice against any mention of a creation, but I was intrigued and looked at various websites. In one, the theory is that the Trojans founded London and called it New Troy, only to be overthrown by King Lud who called it Luds town, from which the Romans called it Londinium, so its true origins have been eradicated. Also according to Waddell, the crosses ...

Advantages: a fun day out Disadvantages: dreamland could try harder
Margate has got to be one of the most popular seaside towns in Kent and I have been going there since I was a little girl. Ok, so it has changed over the years. They have finally got rid of the pier that was bombed many moons ago and sadly the penny arcade (where I spent many a happy hour!) has disappeared. Not all has changed though. One of the most popular attractions in Margate is Dreamland which is small (compared to todays standards but years ... ...alike.
The beach in Margate is long and sandy. The sea, well it isn't pleasant, but not many are in this country. There are yet more kiddy rides on the beach as well as donkeys and you can hire deck chairs and sun beds.
Along the prom, you will find loads of amusement arcades as well as plenty of cafes and restuarants. The town centre is also very close.
I think that there is something for everyone at Margate, whether you enjoy relaxing on the ...

Advantages: one good Cafe and the Shell Grotto Disadvantages: Dirty, Run down, dog muck, junkies
...i had heard lots about Margate the "Jewel Of Kent" so I thought I would give it a try. Even though Bob Geldof has recently said it was a disgrace.
First things first when you drive into town it isn't nice, it has lots of run down and boarded up buildings. There is also a Primark on the sea front, real class, dream land looked more like a nightmare but i decided to look further. I parked the car near the new Turner centre which hasn't yet been completed, ... ...walked down the other side there was a group of sheepish characters hanging around and every wall has graffiti on it and every pavement dog muck.
All in all I wasn't impressed maybe once Margate was grand and maybe it will be again but it needs lots of TLC ...

Advantages: Plenty ---- if you look just a little. Disadvantages: Some --- but none desperate or even bad.
...etc. I moved to Margate over a decade ago from White City in London and it was, at best, tatty but the improvement since then has been immense. I still drive up to London 30-40 times a year (getting to the M2 and M20 using the excellent A299) and also to other places in the UK so I see a lot of the country (Kent and London especially) and trust me, Margate and Thanet is doing OK. Possibly it doesn't feel good for younger folk ---- but I grew up in ... ...---- drive to and park. Margate centre will have to evolve or simply become residential (as has happened in many small town centres elsewhere). But drive around much and you DO see activity. It's not dead ---- and simply looking will show how heavily (and, I reckon, well, compared to most places) policed Margate is. Not much wasted on Traffic policing either in town or on the out out of town roads. I'm not young and I'm not particularly fit or healthy ...

Well alright then MARGATE IS POO!
sorry to say it but its true, but it's only because I am a teenager and there is not much things for me to do. If I was 7 there would be plenty for me to do, with little play areas and 2p machines in the arcades. And if I was 25 I could go to clubs and pubs most nights and also go to shopping and stuff. But no I'm 17, I can't go to the arcades because I am scared of getting beaten up by chavs and I cannot go to ... ...So that leaves me the streets to hang out with my friends and do nothing. So you see why my opinion is not so high of margate. However it would be a nice place to visit in the summer I could imagine because of the lovely scene of the beach and greens. But this is not much fun in the winter as I don't think going to the beach when its freezing with a bucket and spade. It is great to drive around though, with hardly any traffic and stuff.
It also ...
