Your M&S

Advantages: high quality
Disadvantages: more expensive than other stores

...a well known fact that Marks and Spencer have been struggling in recent years and the company as a whole has only just started to make that long climb back up to the top. Now marketing itself as Your M&S as supposed to Marks and Spencer. Gone are the days when it was a shop that only little old ladies could shop at and now a wider range of people are being targeted. Obviously it may not compare to the likes of Top Shop and so on and so forth when ...
...this is a bad thing. Marks and Spencers food is generally very high quality, and hence why I love any trips we have to visit my grandmother, as not only will she stock up with lots of goodies, but they all taste really nice as well, in a way that you can just tell where they are from. There are meal deal opportunities on a large range or drinks, sandwiches and wraps and for anyone that is on a diet they have the Count on Us range, which is basically ...

Marks and Sparks is hanging in there

Advantages: Quality items for the more discerning shopper. You get what you pay for!
Disadvantages: No longer the epitome of department stores for the working classes

Marks and Spencer used to be the top notch of the department stores. Their undies were the height of fashion, and well made to boot. The problem is that today's Marks and Sparks has lost the edge it used to have. There are all manner of other (cheaper) stores all over the place, and unfortunately, we don't seem to want to pay for quality anymore. M & S sales assistants used to be a different breed too, always extremely well dressed, and polite to ...
...pamper yourself with (or a favourite friend/sister/aunt) - a bargain if you can get them at half price or less! It's look has changed, and there's a lot that disappoints, but I can remember Marks and Sparks as they used to be. Ah ..those were the days! ...

Every Rose has its Thorn

Advantages: Neat
Disadvantages: Expensive

...actually boycott the stores. Intriguingly Marks pioneered the 5p per carrier bag scheme to discourage shoppers throwing their bags away. They donated the money to the 'Groundwork's' charity but recently scrapped the scheme because customers didn't want to buy the bags, meaning they bought their own-the point of the scheme-but with other stores logos on. Sales have also fallen since they introduced the scheme in 2008 and that was another factor to ...

if i was managing director .....

Advantages: great food, good menswear
Disadvantages: not much choice in womens section

Marks and Spencer have been hitting the headlines recently due to thew problems that they are currently having worldwide. Now, I do not know the first thing about retailing but I do know why I like some things about Marks and dislike others. Ok, I love the food, especially the take away range. Its definitely the best place to pop into at lunchtime if your hungry and want a sandwich. The nutritional values are clear to read, they have a variety of ...
...is suburb and most cost under £1.50. You can also buy little bottles of orange or apple juice and plenty of flavours of crisps ( all there own make tho) are available. I also love the smellies. When I want to pamper myself, M & S toiletries are the thing. (not the magnolia range though because it gives me a headache). These smellies are good value, always nicely packaged and not too expensive – they make excellent gifts too. And the mens ...

Well...it HAS improved, I think

Advantages: Quality
Disadvantages: Still not GREAT clothes

...I always used to associate Marks and Sparks with being reasonably priced. However, recently I found that I was being decieved! Is it me or have their prices slowly crept up? Even so, I don't think you'll ever find yourself paying hugely over what you should when buying clothes in there. The Quality: I still find the quality excellent. The M&S chain set out to improve the quality of clothing and thankfully they have always kept their standards up. ...
...sum them up nicely. Also, Marks and Spencers is the easiest place to take clothes back to. Whether it's because of a fault or whether you have just changed your mind. A full refund with receipt, or gift vouchers without. Fair enough! Usually M&S have a designated till for returns which saves queuing behind people who spend ages taking stuff back. *THE UNDERWEAR* The Range: Who hasn't got undies from Mark's?!If you say you haven't, I'm sure your ...

No surprise really...

Advantages: Outstanding food quality, a clean bright tidy store, good location, good accessibility
Disadvantages: VERY expensive, arguments about refunds, rude staff (on at least two occasions),LONG QUEUES!

I understand that Marks and Spencers are going downhill... Well it's a shame if a great High St institution is going downhill in such a manner but they are falling between two stools. Let me explain why. Back in 1973, at the age of 11, I had my first experience of Marks and Spencers when my parents partially kitted me out with a new school uniform. All I can remenber is the fact the shirts were cheap, they looked OK and lasted virtually forever-Marks ...
...have been a customer of Marks and Spencers virtually all my adult life and seen several refits of the Wolverhampton store-the last one of about five years ago expanded the sales floor massively and also added an extra floor. I have also experienced the humiliation of being having a credit card presentation rejected ("If you want credit apply for our Chargecard!" -cheeky cow!) but maybe I should have known that back in 1986 they didn't accept credit ...

Marks and Spencer no longer my favourite

Advantages: No quibble returns
Disadvantages: A retailer that has lost its way

My earliest memory of Marks and Spencer goes back to when I was about 5 years old. I remember trips into the city centre, and as a treat was rewarded with wonderful crisps. At that time I didn’t realise it was Marks and Spencers food hall – I just knew it was something special. That was 30 years ago, and unfortunately M&S no longer has the same appeal for me. As I grew up into adulthood, and found myself with a very busy lifestyle, I ...
...quality at reasonable prices. True, M&S cost more than many of the high street stores, BUT I did think it was worth it. Having little time for shopping, I certainly appreciated the fact that you could take items back without a quibble. I often bought a selection of clothes to try on at my leisure. This met my needs. Okay, I was irritated by their not accepting credit cards, but I overcame that by an M&S chargecard. So, what has gone wrong? In my ...

Ten Million Customers A Week Can't Be Wrong

Advantages: Food is superb, Staff friendly, No quibble refunds
Disadvantages: Never have my bra size, Security guards make you feel guilty.

Marks & Spencer, which was founded over 100 years ago by Michael Marks and Tom Spencer, is one of the best known and best loved high street stores. Having started off selling a whole range of clothing, it now boasts food, household ware and even financial services. As there are over 300 M&S stores throughout the country, it is likely that everybody has a store fairly near to them. I am fortunate in the fact that I live just on the borders of three ...
...~~~ Marks and Spencer serve a staggering 10 million customers every week in Great Britain and they also trade in 38 countries worldwide. Although they have a turnover in excess of £8 billion, in the last couple of years their profits have started to tumble for some reason. Profit warnings have been put out to shareholders as sales have gone down and down. Clothing has been hit particularly hard apparently, and although I'm no expert on business, ...

The good old days

Advantages: love their food
Disadvantages: not stylish

...when going clothes shopping to Marks and Spencers was exciting. This was about the same time as they introduced their charge card in the mid eighties. I’d go into their large store in Birmingham and feel like a little kid let loose in a toy store because there was always so much to choose from. With my charge card to hand I’d have a hard job to decide what I was going to buy because there were so many different stylish tops and skirts ...
...money. Clothes bought from Marks and Spencer at this time were also good quality and you knew they would wash well. In fact some of these clothes lasted me for years. Today it is a different story, when I go into the same branch I used to love all those years ago I very rarely find anything that catches my eye as I walk through the store. Over the years I have found that Marks and Spencer have become more expensive compared to other wellknown ...

Marks and Sparks

Advantages: Plasma TV and comfortable sofas
Disadvantages: Not a lot of choice

Marks and Spencers reassured Manchester shoppers that after the bomb of 1996, the new improved Marks and Spencers would make us proud. They lied. The new shop may be impressive in size and technology but there is very little choice of colour and style. For example, I was looking for school trousers in early September and they only had two styles available. In the male section, there were hundreds but they obviously assume that all girls like flashing ...

On your Marks get set! Goooooo ....

Advantages: Easy to move around the store.
Disadvantages: Can be pricey

...and one of them was Marks and Spencers. My local one is in Warrington and it is a large store, based in the town centre. If you want to and can drive there is the one at the Gemini Centre in Warrington. However this is situated near to Ikea and local people tend to stay away at the weekend due to everybody and his army turning up. Traffic is a nightmare so I am doing my opinion on my one in town. The history of Marks and Spencers goes back to 1884 ...
...about all the problems that Marks and Spencers got to big for their own boots. In 1997 The chairman Greenbury got the profits up to over 1Billion. Quite soon after the big crash was about to come, he left it like a sinking ship but he got a nice payout. At this time I was working at Marks and Spencers. Front layout of the store ------------------------- A lot has happened to Marks and Spencers in the last few years so I popped in to see if there ...

I thought they were getting better....

Advantages: Reliable British institution
Disadvantages: Now unfashionable to like them

...Brixton had British Home Stores, Marks and Spencers, Morleys and Bon Marche (Which was John Lewis) It also had Electric Avenue and an extensive market but that's another story. Anyway...we always looked in Marks and Spencers and never bought anything there because it was too expensive. We always shopped in 'The Home Stores'. In the early eighties I discovered that I really liked Marks and Spencer's childrens clothes and began to buy them for myself ...
...thirty miles from the nearest Marks and Spencers and I never went there for years. My mother-in-law continued, however, to grade the towns and cities she visited on coach tours according to whether they had a nice Marks and Spencers or not (and clean public lavatories, of course). I had just begun to use Marks again two or three years ago, thinking how nice it was. I bought a black wool dress and a denim pinafore. I bought school sweat shirts and ...

Falling quality

Advantages: Good returns policy
Disadvantages: Overpriced for average quality

Marks and Spencers used to have a reputation for quality, which I think was fairly earned. However, perhaps with the exception of food and drink this no longer seems to be the case. I am not sure if the recent publicly aired woes are the cause or a symptom of this state of affairs. The quality of the clothes is now significantly lower than even two or three years ago and I suspect the company will continue their bumpy ride until they realise that ...

Time to upgrade the Childrens Department

Advantages: There tend to be in every high street
Disadvantages: Their quality is going downhill

My memories of Marks and Spencers was going into Princes Street in Edinburgh and going to the big shop near the East End! Marks and Spencers were the 'IN' clothes to wear when I was younger and it was also where you were likely to get your school uniform! I always had grey pinifors with grey cardigans until the school sweatshirt came out and then I had grown wide enough in the waist to wear a skirt! It was also the place where I always tended ...
...use the food hall in Marks and Spencers. If i can't be bothered cooking or I want something special, I pop along and have a look. I like to do a nice chicken in a sauce with potatoes and vegetables from the ready prepared section. Makes life easier! These days Edinburgh has 3 Marks and Spencer shops which sell clothes. 2 of these are based in Pinces Street in the centre of Edinburgh. The orignal store which is just a few doors away from Jenners has ...

Their count on us food range

Advantages: a wide range of products, their food is great
Disadvantages: a bit on the expensive side

Marks and Spencers have over the last year brought in a healthy eating menu known as the count on us range. This is a range with can help people on a diet or who are looking to control what they eat more in the way of calories and fat. The Marks and Spencer count on us range includes cereals, crisps and snacks, ready meals, deserts and is not that expensive. Meals are between £1.10 and £3.99, depending on the product and cereal and crisps and snacks ...

Marks and Spencer do all kinds of healthy eating meals and cover a wide variety of items to suit peoples needs.
