A Mixed opinion
Review of Midland Main Line by
amiijoanne
Advantages: Free tea and coffee, friendly staff
Disadvantages: delays, prices of food
I use Midland Mainline quite alot. Particularly the Sheffield to London St Pancras trains. I have mostly been happy with them and haven't had much bother with them until recently.
I usually take a journey which takes two hours by train with a half hour change over at Sheffield. Recently without fail the trains have been anywhere between 10-45mins delayed which either leaves me pushed for time to change at Sheffield or I miss my connection altogether. ...

Beats National Express and the M1
Review of Midland Main Line by

Advantages: Efficient, not overcrowded, and yes FREE tea and coffee
Disadvantages: Slowish line, prices seem to be going up
...travelled a lot by train, Midland Mainline has almost always been a pleasure compared to the companies operating other routes. For a start, the line isnt mega busy compared to say the Virgin routes. On several occasions on Virgin, I have been forced to stand in the toilet! However, on midland mainline there is almost always available seats. But i addition, the routes are simple to understand, tickets are, on the whole, good value, and trains seem ...

Pleasant service
Review of Midland Main Line by
alanhop
Advantages: Free drinks
Disadvantages: None
Midland Mainline is a reasonably good train company.
Tea and coffee are free on Midland Mainline. Staff are very pleasant when they serve it without giving you any feeling that you shouldn't be asking for something for free.
The HSTs are very comfortable, the 'Sprinters' not so comfortable, but at least by introducing them they have permitted more stops all the way up the line to places like Bedford Luton and Luton Airport. A pity they can't ...

Review of Midland Main Line by

Advantages: Comfortable, fast
Disadvantages: Expensive!
...is nothing to fault with Midland Mainline apart from one thing:

I think if they just eased up onthe prices a bit this would be probably the best railway in the country! For someone like me though, this is a bit too pricey. Overall though I say one of the best I have travelled on! ...

THUMBS UP TO MIDLAND MAINLINE
Review of Midland Main Line by
Northener007
Advantages: Punctuality, Superb Customer Service, Cost Effective
Disadvantages: Toilets as on all services could be better
...I have to say that Midland mainline are the best operator for services between the North and South.
The majority of the staff are excellent, (there are a few exceptions as always) the service is second to none and very consistent and most of all the vast majority of services run bang on time. I find help is available at all stations as and when it is required. They have a catering bar which is well stocked and reasonably priced. I have over the ...

Middle of the road
Review of Midland Main Line by
wehrwulf
Advantages: Free tea or coffee
Disadvantages: Pricing inconsistent
I use Mainline fairly frequently from London to Sheffield, and sometimes Derby, Leicester or Nottingham. I buy their capital return ticket for £20 online a couple of weeks in advance. Recently they introduced a new ticket for a limited period of just £15 return. I thought great, Walsall are playing at Forest in a month's time (Valentines Day) so I'll book one of those. However they had all sold out for the return journey. I then tried to book the ...
