Advantages: Great weather, great people, great scenery! Disadvantages: sometimes VERY hot, people always trying to sell you things!
Hi there everybody!! I recently travelled to Kenya and i just thought i'd share some of my experiences with you!
I travelled to Mombassa Kenya in July of this year and i have to say i think it was the best holiday i have been on! I have totally fallen in love with Africa and the African people! I am even thinking about saving up so i can travel there sometime in the future with my friends!
I stayed in a hotel called The Voyager Beach Resort, ...

***MOMBASA***
Mombassa is a port town – newly designated as a city (the President’s New Year present) – on the Indian Ocean coast. It is a bustling, vibrant place, sadly lacking in anything resembling the levels of cleanliness we are familiar with in our major cities. The Town centre is no safe place to be after dark for tourists, but ...

Advantages: Beautiful landscapes and fantastic excursions Disadvantages: Beach boys and price difference
I went to the Papillon Lagoon Reef Hotel on Daini Beach, Mobasa, Kenya in May 2001. The deal we got was brilliant - £480 each for two weeks all inclusive. Jostling about on the plane journey, which was a fair bit longer than we thought it would be - about 10 hours travelling - I didn't really know what to expect - considering I'd only seen Africa in documentaries about lions and in the Lion King by Disney.
The previous opinions have showed you ...

Advantages: Great weather all year round. Disadvantages: Beware of crime.
My worst memory of Mombassa was the day we hired a boat to take us to the reef. A respectable looking guy approached us on the beach and offered to take us on a tour of the reef. I was keen on doing some snorkelling so we arranged to go that afternoon. We had mistakenly thought he was the official hotel boat operator but when we eventually found him it was at a different booking office. No matter, he seemed a decent chap and the boat looked OK. The ...

Advantages: beaches, people, hotels Disadvantages: beach boys
The beaches around Mombasa are wonderful but it depends where you go!
By far the most spectacular are the beaches south of Mombasa but once you get on the main strip you will be driven mad by beach boys unless you choose your hotel carefully. One of the cheapest and the best is Traveller's Tiwi - here they only allow a few to use the beach - they don't pester guests because the hotel allows them to set up a shop after dinner once a week and this ...

Advantages: Plenty to do and very cheap. Disadvantages: A very dirty city.
Mombasa is a rather dirty city on the coast of Kenya. As soon as you get out into the surrounding areas though it changes dramatically. There are the most fantastic sandy beaches with clear blue warm waters. The diving is second to none with something for every one, from small wrecks, to coral walls. The marine life is truly abundant, with sharks, moray eels and turtles in hugh quantitys. On the north coast outside mombasa there is a highly recomendable ...

Advantages: excellent Disadvantages: you have to come back
The beaches in Mombasa are absolutely wonderful, bright blue seas, clean sand, it’s just a marvel to look at. To stroll at night time wow that was a moment to be savoured.
It’s so easy and relaxing that the busy roads of the cities seem miles away.
Mombasa itself is a wonderful place, quiet but still lively enough not to get bored. You can go swimming with dolphins and watch the shows if you like.
It is the chief port in Kenya, you can get ...

Advantages: A story book country Disadvantages: The poverty and begging
A couple of years ago I fulfilled a lifelong ambition to visit Africa. We travelled with Inspirations and stayed at the Diani Reef Grand Hotel, it had been given a “five star” rating by the travel organisation in Kenya. This hotel is a little way from the island of Mombassa. Every time we went on any excursion it seemed that we had to go onto Mombassa. We travelled on the ferry each time, but we had to go over as foot passengers. These ferries are ...

Quick review of Mombasa (Kenya) Review ofMombasa (Kenya)by
harvey1978
I stayed here for 2 weeks in December 2007, and had a truely horrific time. This culiminated when we left the hotel to go on safari and had our safe broken into and then relocked using our chosen code. We had cash and credit cards stolen leading to a loss of £2100. Aside from this, the hotel was a total disappointment. It was cheap to go here but you really do get what you pay for. The hotel standard is more like 2* or 3* at best. The location is terrible, very isolated and taxi's are crazily expensive, leading to a feeling of being trapped in the resort compound. This feeling isn't helped by the presence of lots of security guards constantly patrolling the perimeter.

...Kenya and have been to Mombasa several times. In fact I was there was millenium as well.
Well people have different views about different places as they hear different things from other people.
I would agree that Kenya in general is quite unsafe if you don't take care but if you do the necessary preparations to avoid getting into these circumstances, you will be just fine.
Mombasa is a lovely city with white sandy beaches. Divided into 2...the ...

Advantages: Beautiful place, lovely people, gorgeous weather Disadvantages: The travel there and pestering locals
I have been to Mombassa twice now and I loved it both times. The travel from Mombassa airport freaks you out a bit with all the poor locals but once you get to your resort it is like you have entered another world!
The people seriously cannot do enough for you they bend over backwards to make you happy and they smile all the time!
The beaches are gorgeous and the weather is hot hot hot!
The all inclusive deals are real value for money and ...

Advantages: great safaris and beaches Disadvantages: dirty, too hot
Mombasa is a dry, hot and dirty place. I have been there twice now.
I went on a 2-day safari there - that was brilliant! Fantastic!
At the hotel place we were staying at, there was a pool outside, and, at night, loads and loads of elephants came and drank water from it. We were like a metre away in an underground tunnel thing. IT WAS AMAZING!!!
We also went on a night safari and we saw 3 male lions right in front of our van!
