Advantages: in-flight entertainment
Disadvantages: space (or lack of it) and food

...so but the seats on Monarch Planes seem to be about a foot apart. When I sat in my seat my knees were almost touching my chin and when there are three people fighting for what available space there is, it makes for a very uncomfortable 3 hours. Now I'm a couple of inches shorter than my dad and about 4 stones lighter and if I was uncomfortable then I can't imagine what it would be like for him. Monarch Airlines were a great disappointment to our family. We had a long flight ahead of us, and when we boarded the aircraft in second class we noticed that the seats were incredibly cramped. During the flight we were offered headphones (which we had to buy) for music, but no other in-flight entertainment. ...This was know fault of Monarch but we were told nothing. first we were delayed at Birmingham and then after being there for 4 hours we were not told that we would be transfered to Gatwick anfd then we waited abour another 5 hours at Gatwick. We did finally make it to our destination but we missed a whole day of our holiday. If you ever book a package holiday, check the airline isn't Monarch! I flew down to the Caribbean with my wife and baby daughter, she was 18 months old at the time. We'd spent a lot on this holiday, booked the best hotel we could find in the brochure. So we were expecting a half decent flight. Disadvantages: As flying in Premium I went into Economy and it looked cramped, although I can not properly say!!!

...to book and fly with Monarch Airlines, as I have flown with them numerous amounts of times to Kefalonia, Zante, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Spain, Portugal and sometimes even long haul to the Maldives. ...Experience to The Gambia with Monarch and were fortunate enough to use their Premium Class which leaves on Friday mornings. By fortunate, I mean somebody else was paying the upgrade price of £180 return each on this trip. We could not fault the service, the food, the leg room, anything! We even had a pass to the first class air conditioned lounge at Banjul Airport. The staff were very attentive and it made the five and a half hour trip a real pleasure. ... Read review

All I ask when I pay for a service is that I get what I pay for and it would be nice if it came with a smile. Not with Monarch. I have read a few of the other opinions and it seems that those that are not happy with the service all have pretty much the same reason. The two major factors being the space (or lack of) and the cusomer service. The food was quite bad too. My main complaint was the way the stewards treated me - they just were not interested ... ...airlines that fly this route. Monarch usually are the most comfortable efficient and friendly. I think that they have an advantage in that they fly scheduled daily to Alicante and other Spanish destinations, as well as providing extensive charter flights to the same destinations. They therefore have a better infrastructure, ground staff, airport relations. I suffer less delays with Monarch than any other airline. The planes are modern and quiet. ... Read review

Disadvantages: Lack of Leg room for tall people - but can purchase extra legroom for reasonable price

I have flew with Monarch a number of times over the last few months to Tenerife in the Canaries from Manchester. They have flights going out every day so you can be really flexibe with them. They are fairly easy going with bagage allowance, I was over 8kg over, and they didn't charge me!! Do not fly Monarch to Goa. It is an eleven hour flight in conditions so cramped it is impossible to adopt the 'brace' emergency position. Monarch use a single aisle plane designed for short hop European flights. It is impossible to walk up and down the aisle to stretch legs throbbing with discomfort. When the food tray is lowered it is pressed against your body so it is difficult to even eat in any comfort. The seats are old and uncomfortable and the pitch space the same as the worst budget airline. The blankets supplied are smelly. I booked a holiday online and didn't know I would be flying with Monarch until I had paid. Be warned!

Advantages: The service is presumably cheap as it is used by Airtours.
Disadvantages: Very cramped with tight packing sideways as well as fore and aft.

We travelled to Goa as part of an Airtours holiday. On both outward and return journeys we were very uncomfortable due to the tight packing of seats. The pitch was tiny and the seats were narrow, without fixed arm rests between them. On the return journey, there was one adult with arm in plaster as the result of a fall. No pre-allocation of seats was available and we had, at our additional expense, hire a taxi to get to the airport to be near the ... Read review

Monarch Airlines. I had read a lot of bad reviews about this airline. However when you are flying halfway around the world for a package holiday, you cant really be picky about who you fly with. Monarch has to be the worst airline i have ever flown with. I have been on several long haul flights before and don't have 1 complaint (which is unlike me!).
