Monarch Airlines

I have flew with Monarch a number of times over the last few months to Tenerife in the Canaries from Manchester. They have flights going out every day so you can be really flexibe with them. They are fairly easy going with bagage allowance, I was over 8kg over, and they didn't charge me!! They are a budget airline, so you get what you pay for, but the plane was fairly comfortable, you can choose if you want the food, you don't have to pay for it ...

If you fly regularly you can also join advantage scheme which is a points scheme that saves you money, allows you speeded up check in, extra bagage, but you will have to fly at least 3 return journeys a year to benefit from this. We have travelled by Monarch airlines numerous times over the past 10 years and on nearly every occasion there has been a delay of between 30 minutes and 8 hours. Their record compares poorly with other airlines. The leg pitch is somewhat cramped and the food on board is average airline food. we found the trolley service to be expensive. Do not fly Monarch to Goa. It is an eleven hour flight in conditions so cramped it is impossible to adopt the 'brace' emergency position. Monarch use a single aisle plane designed for short hop European flights. It is impossible to walk up and down the aisle to stretch legs throbbing with discomfort. When the food tray is lowered it is pressed against your body so it is difficult to even eat in any comfort. The seats are old and uncomfortable and the pitch space the same as the worst budget airline. The blankets supplied are smelly. I booked a holiday online and didn't know I would be flying with Monarch until I had paid. Be warned! ...

I have flown with Monarch twice now and cannot fault their service. The first one was to Egypt and true the space was limited, but what do you expect for a cheap flight. The food was of good airline standard although of course the trolley came round first with inflated priced drinks and snacks, which seems to be the norm on most airlines. We travelled to Goa as part of an Airtours holiday. On both outward and return journeys we were very uncomfortable due to the tight packing of seats. The pitch was tiny and the seats were narrow, without fixed arm rests between them. On the return journey, there was one adult with arm in plaster as the result of a fall. No pre-allocation of seats was available and we had, at our additional expense, hire a taxi to get to the airport to be near the ...

Monarch seats are appalling. They squeeze in extra rows and then try to charge ludicrous extra charges for extra legroom, but this doesn't solve the very narrow width. It's impossible to move your arms without disturbing your neighbour and god help you ( and them) if they are a little over weight. It's an airline for midgets! We flew with Monarch Airlines in mid October from Gatwick to Malaga in Spain. The flight was at a cheap budget price. My girlfriend and I were separated and were seated on the same row but on the aisle on the other side. I have to say flying if on a long flight it has got to be comfortable. I was gonig to Turkey and the people infront were so noisy and kept putting the seat back and I told the stuardess but she did nothing to stop them. Flew with Monarch Airlines from Manchester to Sanford Florida. Never will we fly with them again. Problems: Food unacceptable, poor, small portions and who wants cornflakes on a flight?
