Advantages: Well thought out facilities for familes/babies. Disadvantages: Prices. Some locations aren't as clean or well stocked as others.
...stopped at a services (not Moto - Roadchef I think) and found the facilities to be very limited. However on my second journey I stopped at a Moto and I have to say from now on I will aim to stop at Moto services above all others. I was so impressed with the family/baby facilities. All motos should provide free baby food, nappies and baby wipes, steribottles, bibs, bowls, spoons, use of microwave and bottle warmer. Now obviously not everything is ... ...facilities but to be honest Moto is different from the others who just provide a pull down baby change in a disabled toilet and the odd highchair.
Obviously Moto as a company put a lot of thought into the facilities but it remains the job of the staff to make sure they are kept clean and well stocked. Sometimes they have run out of wipes, bowls, etc but if you ask they replenish them. However, I have never had cause to complain about the cleanliness ...

...them- if you use the Moto baby feeding station you can get free Organix baby food, a free sterile bottle, microwaveable bowls, bibs, papmers nappies and spoons..
If you have children you can get childrens ' meals and there is a childrens fenced play area for children up to the age of 9 where you can lock them into the enclosure and sit outside. Burger King
Good food but at inflated price. I think this is unfair becasue it's a captive audience on ... ...I am not willing to pay £5 for a meal that is too big for me so I had a childrens meal for £2.69 - and it was easily enough for me. A regular sized burger, a small fries and a small drink. Had run out of toys so I sulked (not) .My boys had burgers and large fries. They do very good veggie burgers as well- and in the childrens meals, too..so we were very pleased! Impressed by the cleanliness and pleasant staff. TOILETS

Advantages: No other alternative! Disadvantages: Just all round nasty
It was lashing down with rain when we pulled in at these services en route to Cambridge with a hungry 3 year old in tow. So I will give the cleaners the benefit of the doubt, as the entrance to the place was filthy - muddy footprints, and hazardous wet floors. Anyway we headed straight for the "restaurant" and breakfast. £7.99 for a plate of wilting toast, a couple of greasy sausages, an egg, some beans and some bacon wasn't the worst part! On top ... ...so for two people (we decided the little one would have to share ours!), you're talking nearly £20 before you've even touched the petrol pumps.
There was a display of supposedly healthy options for kids, but to be honest, they were all overpriced. And I've often wondered exactly what chemicals are used to keep apple slices white in the packet - surely apples go brown if left when you slice them?
Anyway, the only other option in these services to ...

Had the pleasure of stopping at the Toddington services on the Southbound M1 on 18th May, 2004. It was about 1pm and the car park was around half full so no problems parking. Nice touch at the entrance to the building was the Pet Station with bowls of water and dog biscuits for the canine guests. Only guide dogs are allowed into the building but there was a small grassed area at the side where dogs could stretch their legs and do what dogs do best.
... ...speak for the gents but the ladies were spotless. I'd even be happy to take my granny in there. A lady was busy scrubbing the sinks while I was in there. Clean toilets, nice hot water, full soap dispensers and hand driers that worked. Thumbs up so far.
Usual concessions in the building: a small Thorntons, a Birthday card shop, the usual shop selling sweets, drinks, grab and go food and those strange gifts that they always seem to have in service ...

...The toilets are very clean and always smell of fresh disinfectant, which is always reassuring!!!
Just outside, there's a small play area for kids, witha climbing frame, see-saw and slide to keep them entertained.
All in all, a very small but well equipped and pleasant Moto service station! ...

The problem with this service statiobn is where to park if you are in a large van . If you park in a car place you get clamped . if you park in a caravan place you get clamped , if you park in a HGV place geuss what you get clamped . The management don't want to know ,couldn't give a damm in fact . Ihasten to add I haven't been clamped but many friends and acciotes have . So if you drive anything other than a car AVOID like the plague . I personally will make a concious effort not to use any Moto services for this reason. ...

Quick review of Moto Motorway Service Stations
I am horrified using services for the first time in ages that they charge after 2 hours of parking."Take a break, tiredness kills" says the government then takes money from the likes of Moto to rip people off whilst they try to be safe.A truck driver told me he had to pay £35 of his own money to sleep over night!Thesedrivers do important work, they can kill when driving if tired. Another example of caring UK.In Europe the rest areas are free, the cafes are clean, unlike the filthy Burger .king we used at Moto near Bristol, tables and floor soiled with food. The prices are expensive ,I advise others to go off the motorway for services to avoid extortionate prices both for fuel and food. ...

Advantages: sell good things and are handy when on long drives Disadvantages: RIP OFF
Whichever Moto you turn to, to stop off at, you will always find their prices are absolutely disgraceful! Whether your buying a meal for your family, buying some sweets for the journey or just stopping for a drink they will always be really expensive. I'm srprised you don't have to pay them to wipe your own a**. Inside this particular service station I stopped off at we decided to eat at the Burger King as we had some kids with us. We went to sit ... ...station next to the actual MOTO complex. We then came to find that the petrol was about 5-6p more per litre than it would at home. In this service station there was a Caf'e which sold sandwiches and muffins and that kind of thing, like a coffe shop. There was a kind of Newsagentm, it was well stocked with books, CD's, DVD's, Newspapers, sweets and drinks. Althought the poor prices the staff at counters and cleaners were very helpful and friendly. ...

Quick review of Moto Motorway Service Stations
Used Winchester service area Northbound a few days ago - Moto have recently taken this over from RoadChef who seemed to run the site well in the past. This time it was appalling.
Limited options as only 1 warm food outlet open while BurgerKing was being built. The meals (at 2.15pm) were dried up and dreadful. Chilli and curry both so stale they were crusted over, fried fish that was chocolate brown, rice that you could build a wall with. Everything on offer was similarly unappetising.
Bad hygiene - handling food immediately after operating till and taking money, and miserable staff.
FInally - charged 20p for sachet of HP sauce - not saying that it was available for free just yards away with the cutlery! AVOID! ...

I should start by saying that this review relates only to Knutsford. For all I know, other sites may be better.
I am of the view that motorway service stations have improved somewhat in recent years - though they still have a long way to go. However, I recently arrived at Knutsford at 8 a.m. one morning and had an experience very much akin to the bad old days.
The first stop was the toilet. Not bad and basically clean. Then up to the restaurant ... ...at £5.99. For this sum I was to receive a fried egg, a sausage (containing herbs - may have been Cumberland), a rasher of bacon, a dollop of beaked beans and a slice of fried bred.
I am not a lover of such sausages and enquired, as I have in many other places, whether I might have an extra egg instead of the sausage. For the first time ever, my request was refused with "you can only change meat for meat". That's the rule. Rather petty and pointless ...

As I travel a lot from Aberdeen to the midlands of England. Kinross is my first port of call, usually during the daytime. On Tuesday 23rd September I decided to travel overnight and still use the same places, on calling for fuel at 1.54 am I was met by a cheery good morning by a young man sweeping the forecourt, filled up then decided to have a coffee. that was my big mistake, 2 coffees one black just 1/2 a cup and topped up with water the other ...
