Although I have resided in Munich now for nearly a year, and previously spent 6 months here, I still get goosebumps when I think of just what a wonderful place it is. I was suprised to hear from friends who visited me recently that they had always thought Munich was an industrial city (with the likes of BMW, VW, etc) and hadn't realised just how beautiful it would be. So on the one hand side you can visit art exhibitions at the different museums in munich which belong to the most important in Europe. Or go to theatre or cinema etc. But on the other hand side there's this face of munich the most people know: Oktoberfest, ...

I you'd ask a (real) Bavarian, where he's from, he'd answer "Bavaria", not "Germany". They enjoy to realize their roots as autonome country, with their own Culture, their "own" religions (most bavarians are Catholics) and of course their own beer. That's why Bavaria is interesting. My memories of Munich are a bit hazy bacause the first place we visited was the famous beer hall- the Hofbrauhaus. This is the place that Adolf Hiltler cut his political teeth, but don't let this put you off. The place is great fun. It is everything you would expect from a bavarian drinking den. Huge wooden tables to sit at, or stand on. You are served by golden haired, buxom beauties. The beer comes in huge steins that allow you to crash them into ...
...everywhere. Great fun! Munich does, of course, have its more cultural side. Superb architecture, look out for the giant animated clock called the Glockenspeil. This is a superb example of German engineering without tyres on it. Good shops and superb sausages. I guess most people come here for the Oktoberfest. Munich is a great place to spend a few days or weeks. Apart from the world's biggest beerfestival which takes place every September it has a number of other attractions.
