Isn’t it Louvre-ly?

Advantages: So many things to see.
Disadvantages: Can be a little overwhelming.

...of ‘must-see’ places was the Musée du Louvre. I thought I would tell you all about it. --------------------- History The Louvre is the world’s largest museum and was founded during the French Revolution in 1793 in the former Royal Palace of Louis XIV. The original palace was started in 1200 and the most recent addition is Le Pyramide in Cour Napoleon, basically a big glass pyramid in the Louvre’s central courtyard. Added by former president François ...
...1989 but has now been taken to Parisian hearts. The museum has more than thirteen kilometres of galleries and holds more than 400,000 paintings, sculptures and objets d’arts. Only a fraction of these are displayed at any time. The collection really came into its own when Napoleon came back from his battles around Europe with wagons full of artistic bounty and this forms the backbone of the collection. Arrival and Orientation The easiest way to ...

Musee du Louvre

Advantages: Only place to see the Mona Lisa
Disadvantages: Very busy all the time

Musee du Louvre (Louvre Museum) Background The Louvre is the most visited and one of the oldest, largest and most famous art galleries and museums in the world. The first royal “Castle of the Louvre” was founded in what was then the western edge of Paris by Philip Augustus in 1190, as a fortified royal palace to defend Paris on its west against Plantagenet attacks. The first building in the existing Louvre was begun in 1535, after demolition of ...
...an exhibition). The architect Pierre Lescot introduced to Paris the new design vocabulary of the Renaissance, which had been developed in the chateaux of the Loire. During his reign (1589 – 1610), King Henry IV added the Grande Galerie. Henry IV, a promoter of the arts, invited hundreds of artists and craftsmen to live and work on the building’s lower floors. This huge addition was built along the bank of the River Seine and at the time was the ...

To love the Louvre?

Advantages: Stunning, world famous art, great value for money
Disadvantages: Numerous frustrations

Intro: The Louvre is one of those sites that is both inextricably linked to the word "Paris" and one that is simply not possible to miss when you go to Paris, along with such icons as Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower. Boasting of one of the most impressive art collections in the world, the Louvre's collection does not encompass modern/contemporary art, but has rich offerings in the departments of antiquities and Renaissance masters. Chief amongst ...
...but other key pieces not to be missed are "Winged Victory of Samothrace" and the "Venus de Milo." ----------------------- (Some) Key attractions: If you want to visit the Louvre, now has never been a better time. After being housed in a temporary, rather dingy grey gallery off the long hall that houses the 16-17th century Italian paintings, "Mona Lisa" is now back in her rightful home in the newly restored Salle des Etats. Her new surroundings are ...

Loving The Louvre...Or Not

Advantages: Good collection, interesting pyramid / palace combo for the structure
Disadvantages: Entrance fees, and the other visitore

Perceived by many to be home to one of the best art collections in the world, I would describe the Louvre as, well, not bad. Maybe that’s a little unfair – they certainly had some magnificent pieces on display, but the setting for these, when compared to some of the other galleries in the rest of Europe and America that I’d been to this year lacked a certain, something. That special je ne sais quoi (no objections - since we’re ...
...a gallery a wonderful visiting experience. It was back in 1190 that the then King Phillippe-Auguste ordered the construction of a fortress to protect the city. In the 4 centuries following, it was improved and enlarged by the reining monarchs. This building is now the Louvre gallery, which most recently (well 1989) had a huge glass pyramid added to the main courtyard through which visitors enter the main building. The collection here is pretty varied ...

Paris on a budget. The Louvre

Advantages: beautiful
Disadvantages: hot

Paris on a budget - The Louvre. If you are unfamiliar with the story so far, myself and my good lady wife were fortunate enough to be able to go for a holiday in Paris this summer. We are, however, not the wealthiest of sorts. That meant we had to work within a strict budget, yet we did not want to miss out on the culture and flair of the capital. Having previously done reviews on a really excellent little hotel called the hotel londres et anvers, ...
...nights. And also reviewing the Pere lachaise cemetery (which was excellent value, costing exactly nothing.). I thought a review of the most famous museum in the world was in the offing. On the first evening in Paris, we decided to get a train down to the city centre. If nothing else we just wanted to get our bearings for the first days exploring. So down we went, and we were shocked to see that we got off the train beside Notre Dame!!! Inspired ...

Entering the Glass Pyramid

Advantages: Art
Disadvantages: Queue

The Musee du Louvre is an unmissable excursion for any one staying in Paris. It is basically a huge museum and art gallery in the centre of town. It is easy reachable by bus or on foot and even has its own Metro station, the station itself is worth a look (the poshest Metro station I have ever seen, with museum type displays along the walls). On one side of the Louvre is the busy shopping street of rue de Rivoli and on the other is the Seine, flowing ...
...francs after 3pm and on some nights the museum is open as late as 10pm. The place is huge, divided into three wings - Sully, Denon and Richelieu. The most interesting way to gain entry is through the glass pyramid in the centre of the three wings. It contrasts sharply with the old style grand architecture which surrounds it. What is in the Louvre? Well, what isn't? The place is huge, housing over 30,000 works of art and it is perpetually busy. The ...

Absolutely wonderful experience

Advantages: the biggest collection of art work in the world, including the Mona Lisa and Venus of Milo
Disadvantages: too big to do everything in one day

I went to the Louvre 3 times total and enjoyed it every time I went. Access: Metro 1 (yellow line) or 7(pink line) - stop at Palai Royal-musee du Louvre I would suggest starting by the garden entrance to have a global view of how big and beautiful the entire property is. From there, the view is literally breath taking, even though to imagine what it was like when kings were living there, you have to ignore the glass pyramids that were put up by President ...
...When you are ready to go into the museum, you can go inside by entring the bigger glass pyramid, which is pretty interesting and sets the Louvre apart even more. I f you only plan to go once, you will probably have to choose what you really want to see. The museum is so big that you can't really see everything in one day, so unless you plan on coming back another day, you will need to skip some exhibitions. In the Louvre, you have exhibitions about ...

A must in Paris

Advantages: Value for money, Polite staff, Brilliant Place
Disadvantages: Takes long to view all of the museum

If you like art, achitecture and a good time the Louvre is the place for you. I went to the Louvre last August, it was very affordable, at only F25 per person, if you go in the first half of the day. Then of course you can stay as long as you want. On wednesday they stay open late into the evening, and provides the best value for money, as you need a whole day at least just to see every thing. The museum is very modern with an amazing glass pyramid, ...
...then presented with four different paths you can take, as well as a shopping centre (Virgin Megastore, Cafes etc.).Even if you are not a art enthusiast, you will not be disapointed, with paintings, sculptures, artefacts, architecture and of course you have to see the Mona Lisa! PS. The staff are extremly friendly, and polite. ...

What a huge display!

Advantages: Huge collection of art pieces and drawings
Disadvantages: none

Musee du Louvre is an art piece by itself, besides the thousands and thousands of art pieces and drawings it stores. The entrance of pyramid is spectacular. Inside, there are so many sections of art display, be it egyptian, chinese, ancient art, modern art. Paintings, drawings, sculptures, pottery, whatever I can think of, are in this museum. The most popular of all is the Leornado di Vinci's Monalisa. To my amusement, it is being framed up and bordered ...
...of three feet away, let alone touch it, excuse me. Well, it is an excellent art piece I would say. However, the huge number of viewers cluttering in front of it always seem neverending. You need at least a week to enjoy the entire art collection in the museum. If you are in Paris for the first Sunday of the month, pop into the museum for free. It is open free for public viewing on the first Sunday of each month. Enjoy! ...

MUSEE LOUVRE - SPECTACULAR!

Advantages: grand architecture and truly spectacular exhibitions
Disadvantages: can be quite crowded, impossible to finish in one day

it is impossible to describe the sheer splendour of the musee louvre. with the da vinci code, this structure has achieved cult-like status (no pun intended) around the world! first up, the exterior of the louvre. it is simply one of the largest and most breathtaking buildings. i would probably rank it as the most magnificient structure in paris, even ahead of the eiffel. the glass triangle dome makes it super unique and a picture with it would definitely ...
...lourve is split up into 3 different galleries, Scully, Denon and Richelieu if i remember correctly. anw, if u ask the info counter staff, they would always recommend the gallery with mona lisa in it. the experience is like a pilgrimage. hundreds of ppl would flock straight to the mona lisa (hard to miss with loads of pointing to its location) and it's very crowded. downside is u can't take pictures in there. but it is indeed an experience to witness ...
