...I then tried the National Car Rental website, the site was easy to use, prices clear to see, cars well described and very reasonably priced in comparison to competitors. The initial price quoted was £192 which I tried to book on-line. Unfortunately, for people carrier class and above, I had to phone a special number to check availability. Needless to say, the EasyJet flight was delayed for departure for 3 hours at Glasgow Airport, and I was concerned that the office at Luton would not be open when we were re-scheduled to arrive. Once quick call to National Car Rental in the Luton Airport arrival hall, put my mind at ease.

They offer a very good booking service. We for example have an online booking system integrated in our Intranet - you simply fill in the data, get approval by your manager and usually 1 hour later, get the booking details emailed to you by National Car Rental.

The staff at this company are exceptional and have done everything from paying for my taxi fare to the rental location, to providing me with a lift home when I forgot my drivers licence and even providing me with a special account that suits usage of the cars.
Renting is always a pleasure, at regional locations they take the time to go through the rental procedure, answering any ... ...you and then accompany you on an inspection before you drive the car away. The process can range from about 10 minutes to 25 minutes and you even have the option of returning the car full or purchasing a tank of fuel from the rental location and returning the vehicle empty. The fuel is usually discounted at around 2pence per litre which might be beneficial if returning to an airport.

Don't use National! I booked a car online for the weekend using the internet pre pay facility, the rate was £45. When I came to collect the car I was told that there was a rental extension charge, even though the pickup and drop off times were exactly the same as I requested online.
The rental extension charge pushed the price to nearly £70, so an increase of more than 50%. When I asked about this I was told that customer services were closed and ... ...car rental on the spot and now over 3 weeks later I am still trying to get my money back.
The whole thing felt like a cheap sales tactic to entice people with a cheap online rate then ramp up the price when you go to pick up. I expect many people are left with no choice but to pay the extra, luckily I was able to walk away. I wont be using them again and I would say be very careful when booking online. ...

Quick review of National Car Rental
We rented a National rental car in Switzerland. On returning their car we tried to fill up at their nominated automated service station. The machine ATE our credit card, there was no contact phone or anyone to call out, so we lost our card (we had to fly out that day.)
National charged us a premium for not filling it up, and ontop of that, they charged an extra $50 service charge!!
Stay clear of the slime! ...

...surprised to find that the National Car Rental at FLUGHAFEN ERDING MUENCHEN charged me 184.93 Euro for 60 liters of fuel (this is the capacity of the fuel tank)!
I sent them the receipt of the Gas Station at the Airport area where I filled up the fuel half an hour before returning and ask them to explain how is possible to expend even only 17.21 liters of the fuel in about half an hour.
I received no response from them.
