Advantages Advantages they run trains, some are nice, staff

Disadvantages Disadvantages some trains are awful, absolutely appalling customer service

*please bear in mind that I wrote this review on July 20th, but have only just uploaded it* Since the change from 'Great North Eastern Railways'(GNER) to 'National Express East Coast'(NXEC) I have made two return journeys with NXEC plus a further single journey (the return journey with Hull Trains). I felt now would be a good time to take my old GNER review and update it with a brand new review of NXEC, however, I will leave my old review of GNER at the bottom for those who wish to read it. ROUTES NXEC operates services from London Kings Cross, through west Anglia, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire ... more

Advantages Advantages on time, comfy, cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages lack of luggage storage

I used to book a lot of tickets with GNER who owned this east coast line before National Express took it over. The National Express East Coast journey is one from Huddersfield/Wakefield/Leeds to Stevenage. I take this route several times a month so know what's a good price etc. The trains are reliable and in the 3 and a half years that I've taken this journey I've only ever had 3 problems (1 major, the other 2 were minor) and so I can compliment this company and GNER highly. The trains are all very comfy and all that I've been on have a refreshment carriage and often a refreshement trolley ... more

Advantages Advantages Punctual, clean, free WiFi

Disadvantages Disadvantages hard to find a seat at peak times, some staff are less than polite

As someone who is able to travel in First Class, I can say that the experience is generally very good. Complementary Tea and Coffee is served regularly, although at times it is very slow to arrive or doesn't arrive at all when there are staff shortages. There is also a wide range of food available at your seat, both snacks and meals. Seating is very comfortable and spacious. You can also easily find a seat. WiFi is provided free or charge for both First Class and Standard class passengers, but you have to sign up first in order to use it. It is not very fast, particularly at peak times and ... more

1 Star Quick review of National Express Train Service by trainhater 09/10/2008
I made a return journey from newcastle to peterborough in July - huge delays both ways, toilets, aircon and staff broken. The complaints department obviously have a lot to deal with - they lose all mail - and still waiting in October for them to respond. I'd always drive in future.

Advantages Advantages Cheap, easy to use website, quick

Disadvantages Disadvantages Train tickets are a let down

National Express is a great website, and probably the best for buying coach tickets for traveling up and down the United Kingdom. You can also buy train tickets from this site but for that I would recommend another site such as Virgin Trains or The Train Line as they have more reasonable prices. The website's design in so easy use to use and user friendly. You can find tickets to your destination right from the homepage. All you have to do is enter your "To and From" details, whether you want a single or return and the dates you will be departing and returning. Then you get the choice of what ... more
