*****Introducing Newcastle*****
Newcastle is really the last big city before you hit border country. As in Border between England and Scotland. There are people who think Newcastle is actually in Scotland, but this is not so!!! It did, however, in Roman times, form a boundary between The Savage North (Scotland) and The Delicate South in the presence of Hadrian's Wall. Emperor ... ...so very long ago.
Newcastle is a vibrant city, full of life and colour and movement. Things are always changing in Newcastle, and yet somehow the atmosphere, the mood, the soul of the place is something that always manages to remain the same. It is a city that celebrates multi-culturism, which celebrates art and life and music and humour. It is a city home to over a quarter of a million people, and we're all just as proud as punch to call ourselves ...

Advantages: Lovely city with lots to do Disadvantages: Can get very busy
Newcastle upon Tyne, often shortened to Newcastle, is a city in the county of Tyne and Wear in north-east England. Technically, people from Newcastle are Novocastrians, although the term Geordie is now more commonly used. I'm not actually from Newcastle but it's the nearest city to where I live (about 15 miles away) and I go quite often. Newcastle, known at the time as "Pons Aelius" was founded by the Roman Emperor Hadrian, whose Wall is still visible ... ...a surprisingly original name! - Newcastle itself was named when the 'new castle' was built!)
~ Sport ~
The City has a strong sporting tradition, being home to Premiership football team Newcastle United, and Guinness Premiership rugby union side Newcastle Falcons, for whom England's "(Rugby Union) World Cup winning hero" Jonny Wilkinson plays.
Newcastle is of course home to St James' Park football stadium (Newcastle United) I am not a football ...

Advantages: Loads to see and do in Newcastle and surrounding region Disadvantages: Very busy, especially at weekends
I have lived in Newcastle all my life. I went to College and University in Newcastle and have sampled Newcastle's nightlife for as long as I can remember. Without wanting to sound biased, it really is a city that has something for everyone.
The city

Built on the banks of the River Tyne Newcastle is a relatively small city with a population of about 250,000 (from the last census). Also generally included with the Newcastle area are parts ... ...Newcastle is very compact with pretty much everything to see and do within the city can be done by walking. For attractions further out of the city centre, Newcastle is covered by an extensive bus network and also a light rail network (the Metro), which covers the areas towards the coast and also to Sunderland (although I wouldn't recommend anyone went there).
Newcastle also has the benefit of being very close the coast with the beaches of Tynemouth ...

...reviews on my home city, Newcastle upon Tyne. It's a place I've always been quite touchy about; when I went away to university I was quite defensive on the subject because I feared that people would think less of me because of where I came from. I think part of it was to do with inverted snobbery, I looked down on my hometown, especially when I moved away and saw other places.
I have to say, though, that at the time I left, Newcastle was a much ... ...When I left, Newcastle was a very down to earth place. Most people you met were from the city, in contrast to today as many companies are relocating to the north east because of ever rising costs in London and the south east. This has resulted in an increase in the number of people with a decent disposable income and retailers, house builders and leisure companies have taken advantage of this. Instead of shabby but homely pubs, the city centre is ...

...of places in and around Newcastle only returning to the old homestead with my own family 9 years ago.
"It has everything" seems to be a bit cheesy and yet Newcastle has. There are designer shops everywhere. Big department stores. The wonderful Grainger indoor market. Newcastle is a big town but everything is well grouped ... ...get anywhere quite reasonably.
Newcastle is a town full of history. You have the Keep, where you can walk in and around bits of the old wall are dotted here and there. There is even a shop where when you go upstairs one of their walls is the old castle wall. If you visit then you must get a guide as there are so many things that are hidden it would be a shame to miss them. The most obvious historical aspect of Newcastle is the old Roman wall. As ...

Advantages: Great place to live and enjoy yourself Disadvantages: Nowt
I've lived in Newcastle about 15 years and absolutely love it. In some poll or other it was voted eighth best party city in the world. It has a lot of history , culture, things to do , and the natives are extremely friendly. There is something for everyone here, or hereabouts, but it's still amazing that the cloth cap, whippets and pigeons image of Newcastle and the Nort East in general still persists in some quarters. There are many web sites that ... ...Though it's not strictly Newcastle (it's Gateshead) , if you approach from the south you will see "The Angel of the North", which love it or hate it (I love it) is a very impressive landmark.
Then there's the Tyne Bridge (the coathanger bridge) which was the model for Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the new Millenium foot bridge which is due to open to the public in June 2001. If you drink at the Pitcher and Piano, you are right next to the Millenium ...

I lived in Newcastle for 18 months and throughly enjoyed it. The people were great and friendly, I felt safe when I was out and about (okay, there is crime, but it is not exactly New York), everything seemed cheaper than southern counterparts and the kebabs were out of this world......
Let's start with a little (and I mean little) bit of history! Newcastle is an old pre-Roman settlement. Around the time of William the conqueror, a new castle ... ...If ever you picture a Newcastle skyline, you will undoubtedly think of the bridges that span the mighty Tyne; connecting Newcastle with it's neighbour Gateshead. The most famous of all is the Tyne Bridge; it's huge archway, a colossal pile of metal, beautifully built. The newest bridge is the Milennium Bridge. A feat of engineering skill, this bridge rotates out of the way of passing sea vessels. There is also a walkway and cycle path.

Newcastle is steeped in history and you cant move in the city centre for historic bulidings. From the romans to the normans, they have all left their mark on the city, including a castle and a 73 mile long wall which spans the full width of the country!
It is difficult to write about a city that has so much happening. Every other week there is something new opening.
Newcastle has six bridges spanning across the river ... ...southern counterparts. Think again.
Newcastle is on the northeast coast. How many other major cities can you think of where the beach is less than half an hour away? The coastline is another story in itself, simply stunning and much undervalued.
There is also the whole of the northumberland coast less than an hours drive which is also stunning and the Lake District is right on our doorsteps too.

When I moved to Newcastle I was concerned about the weather - it can be very cold, but found that a great collection of high street shopping both inside and out of the wonderful Eldon Square helped take my mind of the temperature. Having lived in Newcastle for over thirty years before I moved to London I feel I am somewhat qualified to give a review on this wonderful city. Below is a brief history of Newcastle itself. Newcastle was founded in the first century by the Roman emperor Hadrian whose wall is still visible ... ...London with Scotland. If you are into museums and art galleries then Newcastle has it all to offer with the recently refurbished Baltic flour mills art gallery a very popular attraction for locals and visitors alike. Newcastle also has the most vibrant night life of any city that I have ever been to, with the main attraction being ...

The students bar, in a sentence. Go there if you love good atmosphere with students, live sport, ok food and friendly bouncers.
